How dense could the commander be? Here he was, sent to patrol the forests that the Night's Watch reigned over -- alone. A companion or two would have been helpful. At least then, if he encountered trouble, he wouldn't be standing in the midst of danger alone. His black gloves lightly gripped the bark of a tree which stood beside him and he paused in his trek through the thick, heavy snow. Not even a horse. Perhaps this was a result of being a novice. He had only joined the Night's Watch a few weeks prior, so his treatment in this desolate land was understandable.

Lucian, catching his breath, continued forth through the thick snow and against the assault of the frigid wind. The cold steel of his sword hung loosely at his hip via a holster, and a thick coat protected his body from a majority of the cold. What really got him though was Daenerys Targaryen; everyone knew she plotted the return to King's Landing, and since the Night's Watch had swore to protect the people, she would likely visit the wall first... to get rid of the competition. The woman had three dragons, and they had swords. He knew who would win. And yet, with impending doom hanging in the air, he was on patrol.

    Alone. Without a horse.

An eerie feeling was constantly creeping over Vienne, like a blanket of fear to keep her warm against the chilling nights. It bothered her, greatly, to know of how devious the Night's Watch was. She bet that half the men there would turn on their brothers just to keep themselves safe, and it was uncomfortable for her to even think of that. She could not imagine killing other wildlings, unless they wanted to kill her.

She walked, slowly but surely, through the crunching snow, her breath bitterly sparring against the wind. She was patrolling, of course, for her not-so-friendly group. And she was doing it alone. Something she had never done before. Although the brunette trusted herself, mostly, she still feared that she'd mess something up. She feared that something big would come along and cause her one mass of trouble, that would lead to her failing to do her job.

Vienne squinted her eyes to see past the flurry of dense snow in front of her. She wasn't expecting to see anything, and it shocked her when a masculine figure, surrounded by a denser coat than her hide one, was just walking. Like he was marching through the woods, just daydreaming while doing so. It startled the woman enough to make her crouch lowly, listening to the snow reshaping under each step. With pursed lips, she practically stalked the man for what she felt was forever, but was probably just a meer minute. She held her dagger//bow in her left hand, readied to just try to knock him down within a moment's notice.

It was then that a mistake was made. She was too close to him, and moving too fast. He was bound to hear her loud steps against the snow. Her breath held. She did not dare release it while the man shifted. Her dagger//bow made her bare knuckles whiten with how hard she was gripping.

And she couldn't tell if she was more terrified, or more glad to see that she had someone out with her.

[ sorry it's so sloppy! xD but i'm stuck on whether i want her to use a bow or dagger. thoughts? ]

At least then, if she shoots at him, it'll make it harder for him to remove it because it might snap if he tries to pull it out].

His vision was obscured by the thick film of snow and fog that stretched out miles ahead of him. It made his job harder, because now he had to roam every mile of this place just to make sure there was nothing hiding in the obscurity of the wintry storm. As the cold wind blew through his dark hair, he felt as if it were whispering to him. What it was saying, he did not know. "Who would be out in this weather anyway?" The snow only got thicker, and it only required more energy to raise his legs high enough to continue forward. He almost wished something happened out here. At least then, he wouldn't be completely wasting his time.

As if answering his desires, the wind moaned against his ears, sending chills down his spine, evoked by the hollow, high pitch of the current. And then he heard noise. He paused, his body going rigid. Dare he turn around? He had a better chance of surviving whatever ambush he had walked into if he kept walking like he hadn't heard anything. At least then, it wouldn't give the enemy a good reason to attack. But who was to say that his enemy was even humane? Squeezing his eyes shut in silent pondering, when he opened his eyes again, he whirled around. A woman?

And pointed right at him was her weapon. "Wilding," he thought. The distinctive grey garments that adorned her physique told him that was where she was coming form. As far as he was concerned, Wildings were none other than savage cannibals and murderers. He had never talked with one. It was always shoot first, talk later. All he had on him was a sword, and if he wanted to wound her, he'd have to approach her. She could easily strike him down before then. "... I'm going to have to ask you to leave. Now. Your presence is forbidden here, and punishable by death."

As he said this, he withdrew his sword.

...I'm going to have to ask you to leave. Now. Your presence is forbidden here, and punishable by death." The words of the man of the Night's Watch struck her like the blade he unsheathed. She scoffed at his speech, one he must have practiced for a good two years. She pulled the arrow tighter in the bow.

A grin grew across the sly female's face. "I do not listen to your pitiful laws," She snapped. The woman stood from her crouch, stepping forward just a bit. "I can shoot faster than you can run, so I believe you are in no way of telling me what I shall do." She stood, silent, for a long while. She didn't want to talk, because she knew better than to make any commotion with the men watching the Wall. But then again, she already was.

Vienne narrowed her light eyes, pacing back and forth a mere twenty feet from his side. "Now that we're on the same track, where are your friends?" She demanded. Her eyes flashing back and forth around her for anything darting around trees.

    [ low muse, sorry! ]

If he was going to die, he was going to die honourably, and that included at least attempting to fight rather than bowing down to a mere woman. In this case, it was dully noted that he would have to take up a bow of his one. At least then, he wouldn't be put in this predicament ever again.

His sword seemed so useless in this instance. His jaw tightened, pondering over his fate. If he lost, what would happen? Would she kill him or would she take him as prisoner? It was likely. After all, if she took him back to her camp, it'd be a good chance to torture him to find out just how many people were in the Night's Watch and how vulnerable they were.

The Wildings could gain an upper hand.

"Friends," he scoffed, his eyes squinting against the assault of the cold wind as he watched her movements cautiously. "... I'm here alone." He was waiting for her to put her guard down. One way or another, so he could lunge and strike. He lifted his sword, the point gleaming in the dim light given off by the sun that barely poked through the dense atmosphere. "I could ask the same of you," he growled, his sword pointed directly at her.

"You and your people are the exact type of animals the Watch swears to protect the people from. You're the scum of the earth."

With gleaming eyes, the femme watched as the man strolled forward through the pure snow, acting almost like a buddy just coming to chat. It surprised her how bipolar some could appear to be. She was uncomfortable with anyone being close to her, and it just put pressure on her to release the arrow when an enemy pursued her.

"Alone," The woman repeated when he finished speaking, slightly lowering her bow. She kept her eyes narrowed, scanning over him for anything else to attack with. She took a step back, watching the light eyes for any sign of attack. Unfortunately, the minute the Wildling let her guard down, he took action and pointed the sword to her.

Though she did not raise her bow, she pulled the arrow back, so that if he lashed out, she could at least shoot his lower body. She did not want to kill, but rather send a warning to the rest of the Night's Watch. When he spoke again, she stiffened for a moment. Then a moment afterward, she just laughed. She couldn't believe the claim that she was the animal, while he was the one tromping about telling her what to do. "If we are the scum of the earth, why are your folk the ones slaughtering each other, daily? You must at least have the sanity to spare your people, rather than make everyone your enemy." She spat bitterly, her eyes narrowed to slits. She gritted her white teeth, pulling the arrow tighter once more.

"If he dares make a single incline toward me, I will not hesitate..." she decided, her body stiffening with hesitation. Nonchalantly, she traced her eyes down the sword to figure how he would react. If she appeared frightened, he could become overly cocky. But if she just stayed relaxed and collected, perhaps he would be at least a tad intimidated. Only his reactions could truly tell. "Get back," she began suddenly, "Or I will shoot."
