    Pepper froze as a loud crash sounded from close by. She gently picked her hatchling up by the scruff and beat her wings a few times, rising up above the tree to see what was wrong. She was met with the sight of Litia laying on the ground.


    //Didn't I meet her earlier?// Pepper realized, landing quietly. //Was she watching me?//


    Placing her now-awake hatchling on the leaves and covering it with a large black wing, she started out with, "Are you okay?" Then she cleared her throat. "And, um, were you watching me?" She curled her tail around her squirming baby, who was starting to try and struggle out from under her wing. As long as Litia wasn't a threat, she wouldn't hurt her--but being cautious was a good thing to be.

    "It's a male," Pepper answered. "And he hasn't got a name yet. He seems pretty fiesty, too..." Pepper murmured mostly to herself, examining the hatchling. He didn't have wings yet, not even close. His shoulder blades were larger than a lizards, and he had a sturdier build; otherwise he looked like a lizard of some sort, but he wouldn't scurry around on his belly. The little hatchling yawned, tiny teeth showing as he opened his icy-blue eyes to stare at Litia.
