    [justify]This is short and I know, what it was originally was going for was a story about teen suicide but with the help and companionship of a dog but I couldn't get it all done.. Sorry. Anyway.. here's a shorter version.

    Not one of my best works.

    ᎢᎻᎬ ᏢᎪᏚᏚ

    Friday morning. How else could I describe the most perfect day of the week?
    I sat at the end of my bed staring at the calendar that hung on the wall. I studied it closely just to make sure, I couldn't tell you how many other times I had mistaken a regular wednesday for a friday. When finally reassured what today was I immediately got up from my bed and rushed over to my dresser to grab the pair of dirty jeans I had been wearing yesterday. My eyes scanned across my messy and unorganized room as I looked for a shirt to wear when suddenly my eyes landed on the old Aerosmith shirt of mine. A small smile spread across my face as I snatched it and slipped it over my bare chest. I loved that shirt more than anything, no matter how many holes had been chewed in it by moths and ketchup stains spelt on it. It held memories, and I had been told memories last forever by my friend Geddy. Or something like that.

    While slipping into my jeans I hopped over to the door. The sweet smell of breakfast was calling me from downstairs and I couldn’t resist it. I grabbed the doorknob for support as I pulled them up, when I had finally got them on comfortably I sprinted out of room and down the hall then the stairs. Each step I took was careful and steady, fast but firm. I jumped off the second to last step and hit the wooden floor with a loud bump before running into the kitchen. The smell that had called me into the kitchen was stronger than before and it was only matter of seconds before I identify what it was, but to my disappointment no one was in the room. Only a plate with one piece of burnt toast left sat on the kitchen corner. Wow.

    I didn’t even try to take it, I grabbed the door of the fridge and swung it open to try and find something else to eat other than toast. I grabbed the carton of milk from the back and used swung the fridge door closed when something had caught my eye as I turned back to the counters. I hesitated and instead opened the cabinets to get a glass cup before turning back to see a note taped to the door of the fridge.

    “Alex,

    I had to leave for work early this morning, turns out I’ll be back Sunday. Don’t invite anyone while I’m gone, especially one of the Lee’s kids. Don’t ask why, just respect my rule.

    love you, mom☺”

    Her absence tomorrow made up for the lack of breakfast, I could invite Geddy perhaps. Then again not. I tossed the paper note onto the floor carelessly as I poured myself a glass of milk. Mom always had a tight schedule, I could never see her for more than a few hours before she had to go back to her office, but I had come to accept it. My dad wasn’t around either because he had died not too long ago, my mom was still mourning his lost and I had come to accept it, just like all the other things. Cleaning the house by myself and eating TV dinners for dinner were the usual thing for me and using a calculator instead of getting help for my homework had replaced my mom, but the memory of her presence remained with me while doing these things. When she was home all she would do was sleep pretty much. A wave of despair washed over me as I took a few sips from the glass. “Get over it” they had told me.

    My few minutes of self pity quickly ended when I glanced at the clock. “6:53” it read, pretty soon the bus would come and I needed to leave before it was too late. I set down my glass and rushed towards the garage door. I stopped before running out the open garage door to put on my sneakers before leaving the garage and entering the streets. It was a five minute run to the bus stop where I would meet Ged and the bus would arrive at 7:00. I had time but I wasn’t going to ignore the risk of missing it. I flew down the streets as fast as I could while counting the minutes.

    My heartbeat got louder and louder as I ran, soon it was the only thing I could hear other than the loud inhales and exhales of breath I was breathing. My legs felt sore and a quick break right now sounded great, but I wasn’t even close to the bus stop yet, or I thought. My crinkly blonde hair was all in my face and I could see anything except blonde strands of hair. Damn my fear of getting hair cuts! The few gusts of wind didn’t help either since they were blowing in my way. Everything seemed to be against me this morning but I wasn’t going to give up, not this early. I stepped up my pace and ignored any distractions as I whipped my head back to get the hair out of my face. In the distance I could see the bus stop and ran even faster. “Soon” I thought as I took a turn onto the empty streets.

    I sprinted across the street before reaching the sidewalks where the bus would come to pick us up, I fell to my knees in pure joy, happiness and sore legs, knees, and feet. I felt someone place their hand while I tried to catch my breath, I turned my head back to see Geddy standing there, a pure look of confusion could be read on his paleish coloured skin. “You okay..?” he asked hesitantly. “Y-Yeah” I responded back as I stumbled back up. I pushed the last few strands of my hair behind my ear and gave him a half hearted smile “fine!”

    “If you say so”

    Before sitting back down on the sidewalk and waiting for the bus, I looked over Geddy. He was a strange guy, he had long hair and a pointed nose that kinda reminded me of a witch. He always wore the same outfit everyday, a turtleneck sweater and black bell bottoms with a star of David necklace, even in summer weather, yet he was never bothered by the heat while I would be drenched in sweat. The only time I saw him wearing anything different would be in gym or when we were at each other’s houses. But the thing I couldn’t stand most was how he tried to act so smart. He was, but sometimes he didn’t even know what he was talking about.

    “Anything new?” I asked as I took a seat on the sidewalk. “You ask me that question every morning, don’t you think it’s time for something else?” he snapped back.

    “Like what?”
    “Well for starters, I would ask you where’s your socks and backpack”

    My eyes widen and I was immersed in shock, how could I forget my backpack?!

    “It won’t matter, I mean, we’re not having any test today, right..?”
    “Sadly yes. Your true blonde is showing, Alex.”
    “.. Well, now it’s my turn to ask a question; are you on your monthly, Geddy, or are you naturally like this?” I said with a smirk. Geddy only furrowed his eyebrows at me and crossed his arms across his chest. “Mind you, I’m a boy if you couldn’t tell and soon to be a man. My birmisters next week, ‘member?” “How could I not? You’ve been talking about it since you were 8!” Memories flooded back into my mind as the times of when we were younger played in my back in my mind. Even back then he wore that stupid outfit, the only difference was that it was in a smaller size and his hair was slightly shorter. “You’re invited along with other bits of my family,” he said as he handed me a paper slip with his address on it “don’t tell anyone else though. I’ve had this group of nerds that have been trying to find out and I know that they’re going to try and get an invitation from me” he added as I stared down at the slip. I smiled and nodded before slipping it back in my pocket. “But aren't we nerds?” I looked back up to him, “We’re not nerds, Alex, we’re underappreciated” he said as he sat beside me.

    We both sat together in silence, it was the one thing that we both were good at other than looking like two complete idiots in public. “Did you hear about that new Nirvana album?” he broke the silence, all I could do was say “Eh?” in confusion.

    “You know, my favorite band of all time, they released an album not too long ago. And I love Nirvana. And you know that, eh.” he said in a stereotypical Canadian accent. “Oh yeah, eh. What’s it aboot?” I played along with the joke that we always would do, and the one that alway got us in trouble for being racist of our own country. Before Geddy could go on the sound of the distant bus could be heard along with the shouting of the older students on the bus came with it, I stumbled back up and stuck my hand out to help him up as the bus came closer and closer. I pulled him up and waited for the bus to stop, I exchanged a glance with him before walking with him to the bus door, both of us sticking together. Our seats were in the back of the bus, a.k.a, the worst part of the bus.

    We found our seats and sat down, both of us still keeping close. Several older teens stared at us, some snickered, I couldn’t help but wonder what they were thinking. As for Geddy he remained emotionless and blank like always. I was jealous of his abilities. I turned my head towards the window and tried to ignore the loud shouts and balls of paper thrown above us, the passing scenery outside would have to do as entertainment today.

    Me and geddy walked through the busy halls of Fisherhigh, our hellish school. We stuck together just like on the bus and tried to keep our eyes only to ourselves. I’ve been accused of starring at a girl’s chest before and the girl’s boyfriend wasn’t listening to me, no matter how many times I had said I wasn’t, but it didn’t matter when I had a broken nose for a few weeks. But then there were the times when I would be blamed for things that I had no idea about, Geddy too was a victim of careless blaming that had him suspended. We had only been in this school for a few months and we had found ourselves in deep bullying and trouble, but we kept our heads high and our friendship alive like always.

    I sauntered towards my locker and opened it. Unlike others I didn’t lock it, there was nothing interesting or valuable worth stealing anyway, so what’s the point. I grabbed my English and Biology book out from my locker before closing it. I kept my eyes on the books as I walked back to my classes when I heard someone call my name.

    “Alex!” Geddy called from the crowd. I turned back to see him smiling, in his hands was the slip of paper he had gave me before. I checked my pocket to feel nothing but the denim of my jeans. “You dropped this!” he said as he approached me, he handed me the note and I accepted it again, “Thanks” I said with a smile before slipping it back in my pocket and turning back to go and find my class.

    ~~~
    “Are you listening to me, Aleksandar?”
    My eyes opened and my attention went back to our teacher. I had fell asleep once again and the only thing I had remember was that we were talking something about math, or science. “Oh, yeah” I stuttered. “Can you tell us what page we’re on?”
    I froze. I had no idea, I opened my mouth to speak but found myself so lost that I couldn’t even say one word. I could hear the other students in the room snicker as I grabbed my book and flipped through the pages as quickly as my fingers could, “Please, just give me a minute..” thoughts clouded over my mind as I kept searching, faster and faster. “Page B28, Aleksandar.” she said. I sighed. Page J 489. I wasn’t even close. I turned towards the page she had said and rest my head on my hand as I looked at the words of the book, not reading, just looking.
    I knew I wasn’t a good listener and I never wanted to, it was the reason why I also struggled in school. The other kids around me gave me looks as I tried to block my face, I couldn’t make eye contact with others without blushing a heavy crimson, then getting even more embarrassed. I glanced at the clock and back at my book. Soon would be first break. It was like a quick recesses before going back to class, we are given four 10 minute breaks to gather our books and socialize but it’s usually just all us messing around.
    It was only three or four minutes after my embarrassing scene when the bells for break went off. I quickly got up and grabbed my books and headed for the doors. I was quickly pushed to the wall by the other students, I waited patiently as they all poured out, each of them acting as if I was invincible. I was used to the constant feeling of being a background character, nothing that adds to the plot. It was all so predictable, wake up, meet Geddy, go to school, be ignored, go home, sleep, repeat. I was tired of it, but so scared of change. When everyone had left I walked out of the door and back into the busy halls of high school. I scanned the halls for the exit to the school yard before being pushed and tripping into the crowd. I hit the floor and pain coursed through my body. Laughing was all that I could hear, I layed on the floor for a quick moment before getting back up and collecting my books. Like always, I kept my head down and walked on, trying to ignore the laughing and snicker behind me.
    As I walked out of the school building I gazed across the schoolyard, scattered fall leaves and a few basketballs laid upon the cement court. People were everywhere, socializing, talking, you name it, I could see everyone except for Geddy, like always. I sauntered around the crowds holding my books close to my chest as I walked around in confusion looking for him. I passed one of the building’s corner when suddenly I felt someone grab me by my shoulder and pull me behind the building, I reacted fast and jerked my hand to hit however had their grip on me, when I turned to see who I had hit it was Geddy with his hand over his nose.
    Dammit.
    “Oh, uh.. Hey..!”
    I could tell he wasn't please with my miscalculation and trust problems, but even he knew that I couldn’t just be tugged to the back of a building without knowing who was the one tugging me. “So uh… I like your sweater..” I said in hopes of breaking the awkward silence between us both but if wasn’t working. Geddy crossed his arms and revealed his nose, a thin stream of blood flowing from his nostrils and violet bruise on the left side of his nose. All I could do was stare and ask if he was ok, but I was beyond embarrassed, I was just downright astonished.
    “You can throw a punch pretty hard, y’know” he said darkly. I kept my silence. “...But I didn’t pull you back here for getting punched, I was going to ask if you wanted to skip school” he said in a lighter tone, I felt slightly relieved but yet confused. “Sounds great, but how do you plan for us to even get out? There’s at least sixty something people out here and we’re destined to be caught!” “calm down, you’re going to draw attention to us!” he grabbed me by my shoulders and shook me, that alone was enough for me to shut up, I grabbed one of his hands and pushed it off “Fine.” I whispered back. He took his other hand off my shoulder and instead grabbed me by my wrist, tugging me towards the brick wall that separated the school yard from the outside world. “We can’t cli-” “I know!” he snapped back as he let go “Instead you’re going to help me get up there, and when I am I’ll lift you up”
    It sounded like a good plan but it was full of faults, we could easily be caught, and when we went back to class people would ask where we were. But he had no patience for my silence and lifted his leg “get your hand ready.” I put my hands together and lowered it to where he could place his foot into my palm. He placed his hand on my head as a balance support while I lifted him to the top of the brick wall, “Are you there yet?!” I said through gritted teeth. The weight on my hands was relieved when Geddy had reached the upper ledge. From the height he stretched out his hand to help me up, without hesitation I grabbed both of his hands and positioned my shows in the cracks of the wall to climb as he would pull me up, making the climb faster.
    In a matter of seconds I was pulled on the upper ledge along with Geddy, we both paused to catch our breaths before slipping off the ledge onto the opposite side of the wall. I landed onto the ground feet first with “Umhp!” along with Ged, “We’ll head to my house” I turned towards to him with a bright smile slapped across my face, he dipped his head as in a yes and followed after me as I sprinted towards the direction of my house.
    We both sauntered together down the empty sidewalks of our neighborhood indulged in deep conversation. I was always looking behind my shoulder to make sure no one from school was following us, deep inside I was curdled with fright and excitement mixed together into one sore feeling that made me trip on my own words and my skin shiver. It was wonderfully frightening. Geddy too looked like he had the same feeling, he kept making a weird giggle sound whenever he laughed, and for the first time in forever he had taken off that sweater and wrapped it around his waist from the heat.
    We both were heading for my house where we would probably spend the night together, Geddy has been good companion since we first met in 3rd grade when my mum wasn’t around, and he was the only one who was there to teach me that you could not cook an egg in the microwave. That was a very messy day. Whenever I asked him a question he would answer it in a way that was smart but simple and easy to grasp, for my levels, that was. But the thing that started our friendship was how forced it was. When our parents met each other they forced us both to be friends with each other, at first we hated each other’s guts and didn’t even want to be in the same room. We were two different people, he was a serious but goofy kinda kid and I was just a messer-upper in all ways, but we connected instantly when our parents started to hate each other and forbid we meet.
    That rule was broken quickly after it was made. Together we would break any rule thrown at us and ignore what our elder’s said, our will to break away from the norm and follow our own set of rules was what brought us together.
    “Why is that dog out in the middle of the road?” Geddy spoked as he put his arm out in front of me. I stopped and looked at the scanned the road and to my surprise a dog like figure sat in the road from a distance, he was completely frozen and was looking right at us. “Do you think he got run over or something?” I inquired as I squinted my eyes at the mutt. Geddy shook his head and turned towards the road to slowly approach the dog, I followed after him in curiosity of what the dog would do, but he still sat there letting us come to him. I stayed behind Geddy at all times as he stretched out his hand towards the dog.
    Instead of the bloody and gory scene I had thought, the dog didn’t bite him or anything, instead it licked his hand and gave a bark. “Do you think he’s rabid?” I asked. Geddy shrugged as a response and kneeled down to the dog to see what was wrong with it, he caressed the flat fur of what looked to be a corgi. He lifted each front paw carefully to see if there were any damage or bruises and studied the canine closely, he turned to me when finished and said “It looks fine.”
    I kneeled down beside Geddy to hesitantly pet the dog, its fur was flat and musty, and I wasn’t so happy about my hand getting dirt all over it. I pulled my hand back and got up. “It probably has an owner, we should just leave it” I noted in a dull tone of voice. The corgi answered him for me instead by barking, as for Geddy he looked back up to me and let the dog do the talking. I rolled my eyes and turned away “Co-” before I could finish I was interrupted by another bark from that dimwitted dog. And if that wasn’t enough, to top it off Geddy mentioned the idea of bringing him home.
    “No way!” I exclaimed. “Why not? Your mom’s not going to be home until Sunday” he replied back. “you punched me in the nose, come one!” I didn’t bother with trying to argue with him, instead I stood there with my arms crossed over and my lips poking out. I didn’t want some mutt to come to my house, and I was going to let Geddy know that it wasn’t going to happen. With a sigh, he got up from the road and walked back to where I was standing, I turned back to my house’s direction and started walking back while ignoring any sound that came out of the dog’s mouth. But I stopped. In the distance I could hear a faint car’s horn.
    I turned back to look at the dog, still it was sitting there without any idea on what was going on. I sighed and pushed Geddy aside as I sprinted towards the dog. The car was approaching faster and closer, luckily I scooped the animal up before the car had hit us both. I ran to the other sidewalk on the opposite side of the road to try and catch my breath, the corgi was heavy and I couldn’t support it for very long.
    When the car passed Geddy came running from the other side of the sidewalk towards me, probably going to rub it in my face about saving the damm thing. When he was close enough I pushed the dog towards him “Here! Take it..” I mumbled. “Our we bringing it?” he asked, his eyes full of hope. I sighed.
    "..fine."
    Oh, ᏃᎪᏴᎢᎪᏚᎢᏆᏟ and I had the same dog breed in mind. That's kinda' cool, right?
    This story... I was going for the short story angle because I love summing everything up in sweet paragraphs, but I wanted to make it longer. But I didn't want to strangle it, and I knew that scene wouldn't have anything else in it. So I guess this is about why two different people didn't move away from an expensive city where they've gotten nothing but heartbreak. The animal... damn my companionless defaults... didn't take up a chunk of the story. I'm done with my not-so soliloquy now.
