  • "oh. i'm sorry .. i-i know how that feels." just thinking about his human parents made parker's head hurt. they had died in a plane crash when he was really young. he guessed he and augusta could relate.

  • "I guess that's all of my story...I've lived here the rest of my life. It was kind of lonely before I met you, Constantina, Augustus, Spacepaw, and everyone else, y'know? I didn't have many friends when I was a kitten." Augusta told him, head down and searching the ground for some non-existent item. She didin't want to make eye contact because she was afraid he would judge her for some reason. Augusta was vulnerable now, to any attack Parker could possibly throw at her. It was an unreasonable fear, but a fear nonetheless. "Now everything's alright, though."

  • parker smiled a little. augusta considered him a friend? that was .. something new. he didn't have many friends, as a human or a cat. "yeah, it is," he murmured, feeling a sudden rush of adrenaline at the sight of the river ahead. "hey, wanna race to the river?"

  • Augusta perked her ears and glanced over at Parker. "Race? You're on!" Her mood spiked to excitement and she lined her paws up with his. "Ready....Set....GO!" Augusta shouted, then took off at breakneck speed.

  • Augusta yelled happily as she sensed him right behind her. Augusta breathed heavily and pushed forward. Eventually he caught up to her and they were running side by side. Her lungs ached and legs pounded when they reached the river and she collapsed on the ground in a fit of laughter. "You're a good runner, Parker! Y'know..almost as good as me."[b] Augusta joked, prodding him in the side with her speckled paw. [b]"I think you won by a whisker, though."

  • parker skidded to a halt and fell in a heap beside augusta, laughing along with her. "i don't know .. it was a pretty close race. man, my head is pounding!" he took heavy breaths, happy to just lay there for a few moments.

  • Augusta panted heavily. "I guess we're here!" She exclaimed. Shaking out her fur, Augusta paused to catch her breath before standing up slowly. "I love the river, it's so pretty." She meowed, breathing in the scent of the pine trees around them.

  • parker sighed, flipping to lay on his stomach and look up at augusta with a soft sigh. "yeah, you— uh, i-i mean it is." he felt his cheeks start to burn. where has that come from? "uh, so want me to show y how to take pictures now?"

  • Augusta smiled widely at Parker. "Yes please!" She exclaimed, giggling softly at his awkward words moments before. "I have no idea how to work this thing." Augusta turned the camera over in her paws a few times.

  • "ok, so this button here let's you take the picture. if you set the camera on the ground and crouch down by it and look through this hole, you can see what you're gonna take a picture of. then, when you have are satisfied with what you see through the hole, you press the button. then use your claw to move this little plastic gear. when the gear stops moving, bring me your camera and I will give you all the pictures you took." parker gave a small nod. "so, you should try taking a picture, huh?"

  • Augusta listened carefully, trying to remember each thing he said. "Alright, I think I got it. I'm gonna take one of you first. A good one." She giggled remembering the first picture she had took, probably sideways of his face. Leaning down on the ground, Augusta peered through the small hole and found a smiling Parker in her vision. She clicked the button and heard a click. "Woah! Cool! Now I turn this?" She asked, moving the winding wheel to the right. It clicked into place. "Oh, I get it!"

  • parker twisted his face into a goofy grin as augusta took the picture. he laughed and snapped a picture of the she-cat with the camera still in front of her face. it appeared on the small, dusty screen. he turned it around to show her. "i have a different kind of camera, so they're all stored electronically on here. neat, huh?"

  • Augusta squealed as she heard Parker's camera click in her direction. "You took one of me?" She asked as she approached the camera to see the picture. "That is me! Wow, this is so cool." Augusta pointed her camera at the scenic river through the trees, clicking a picture and winding the gear again. "I love this!" The tortie exclaimed, overwhelmed with excitement.

  • parker smiled, crouching down and positioning his camera to point at the river. he adjusted a few things using a small metal wheel on the top of his camera, one the disposable cameras didn't have. it was strange; he couldn't read the human writing anymore, despite having been a human himself for sixteen years before. he simply memorized what each option did. the tom snapped a quick picture that was focused on a slimy moss-covered rock with the last hints of sunlight on it, the water blurred and glistening in the background.

  • Augusta looked over at Parker while he was taking pictures. "What do you do with the pictures once you've taken them and printed them, Parker?" She asked, trying to line up a shot with a bird up in a tree branch.

  • "uhm some of them i sell, and others i keep in books as memories, i guess," par keep responded, "so if i ever become a human again, i'll remember this was a dream, y'know?" he chuckled lightly.

  • "Oh no, you're not going to become human again soon, are you?" The thought of losing one of her only few friends distressed her immensely. "Parker, don't leave so soon, please don't become a human again!" Augusta fought back tears and she tried not to think about seeing Parker as a human, walking through SunClan's forest and destroying lovely flowers and stepping right through the river. "Parker.."

  • parker grinned. "no, no, I was kidding! i .." the tom's eyes softened. "when i first became a cat, all i wanted was to turn back. but now .. i don't think i do. i mean, i have more friends than i ever did as a person. no, I wouldn't do that." he gave a wisp of a smile.

  • Augusta was on the verge of tears. "It's not a joke! I only have three friends here and you're one of them! I don't ever want you to leave, Parker! You scared me!" Her eyes brimmed with salty liquid and she set her camera down on a patch of dry moss. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm crying...It's not really a big deal anyway, I'm sorry."
