  • Tris couldn't help it. It was simply how she'd lived since... Well, forever. Snarling lightly, she silently stalked closer. The tears weren't helping. If anything, they were a reason to attack for Tris, a sign of the woman's weakness. Trembling with rage, Tris glared at her. There were no more words for her to say. The animal side of her slowly and steadily had taken over. Tris watched her, waiting for a chance to attack, the perfect moment to strike.

Luckily, instead of staying, Mama J took the kids and herself into another room. Satisfied, Tris hissed once more in defiance then circled the room, growling lowly.

Gloria nodded. "That would be satisfactory. She will of course be tested from time to time during the monthly visits. For now, we all seem to think you are a satisfactory adopter. The paperwork was all done out yesterday, so we're all finished here. Shall we go pick up Tris now?" she asked. "Or are there any more questions you would like to ask?"

  • "No!" Greg smiled offering a hand to help the lady up. "You have answered all of them." A smile of satisfaction on his face as he just couldn't wait to see the little girl again. He hoped everything was ok, that nothing major happened while she was there. He knew she was scared so she feared she would lash out.

  • (Sorry. My computer is broken down and it's hard to get to the library with school and all. :) I'll try to continue posting fairly regularly. :-[ )

Gloria nodded considerately and silently slipped into her car, driving towards the temporary foster home. When she pulled up at the white-washed picket fence, it was as if the house had been hit by a tornado. Toys, books, clothes, and other miscellaneous riffraff were strewn across the grass. The door was half open and smeared with red streaks of finger paint. In the midst of all this, Tris stood at the door, looking like and agitated feline. She glanced back as one of the other kids tried to sneak into the kitchen for a snack. Tris stood and hissed. The child jumped in terror, grabbed his snack, and dashed back into the room with Mama J. Satisfied he wasn't a threat, Tris sat back on the floor and silently surveyed her new territory.

  • Thats ok! Don't worry about it at all!))

"TRIS!" Greg shouted, not scared he marched up to her and grabbed her arm and lifted it so she could loo at him. "What did you do!?" HE hissed in a low voice, one no one had ever heard but the stories made them not want to. "This is not acceptable."

  • (Mission Accomplished! My computer is fixed! *Does crazy victory dance* :) )

Tris stared at him, seeming absolutely unfazed. She didn't flinch when he strode over or picked her up. When he spoke, she just watched him with her silent, steady gaze. When he'd finished, she didn't do anything at all. The girl silently let him carry her, refusing to look away, answer, or even move in the slightest way.

Gloria bit her lip, walking over. "I'll drove you two home. Mama J will want to clean up after.... after this."

  • WHOA!! *joins in*))

Once home Greg set her on the counter. "HOW DARE YOU!" He snapped, eyes blazing like a fire. "She gives you a home, a place to stay! And what do you do! YOU TRASH IT!" Too angry he looked at her and said, "Go to your room...NOW!"

  • (So.... do you have any ideas you want to incorporate into this thread?)

Absolutely silent, Tris continued to steadily watch him as he yelled. Once, he'd given his final verdict, Tris carefully extricated herself off the counter, not looking away from him the entire time or turning her back. Quickly backing out of the room, she retreated into her bedroom and curled into a tight ball against the wall in her closet.

  • I don't know right now...Give me a day or so and I can think of something.))

Greg sighed as he stood at the door and watched her. Turning he made a glass of coffee, seeing th emug she always used he took it and filled it with hot choc late. Finding her in the closet he sat down next to her and handed her the mug. "Do you want to talk sweetie?" He asked looking at her in a way that said sorry I yelled at you.

  • (Sure thing! :) )

Tris watched him, scared to death but careful not to show it. Doing her best to keep her hand from shaking, she carefully accepted the mug, not letting their hands touch but carefully setting it on the floor. Frightened, Tris kept her face completely blank and gave him a small nod yes.
The poor girl had no idea what he would do next. Would he yell at her some more? Tell her how stupid she'd been at Miss J's house? Ask her to leave? Stomach churning, Tris stared into her hot chocolate and tried to keep the anger and fear down in her stomach. Tris felt her hands curl into fists. She wanted to hit something, smash the mug, pour hot cocoa everywhere. How could he have expected that she could be trusted? When had she ever said he could trust her? How could they leave her with someone she hardly knew and expect things to go so well?
Biting her lip, Tris looked up at him. "Why did you yell at me?" she whispered.

  • "Tris..." Greg sighed setting his mug down as he looked at her. "Your going to have to work with me a little. I havn't had a kid to take care of in almost 30 years. I just yelled because I was mad. I thought you where doing so well and I was just surprised that you did that. I didn't mean to scare you or anything."

  • Tris began to cry softly. "You can't expect me to do anything...." she whispered. "You never told me how you wanted me to act. You didn't say anything about manners or... or being clean... or anything..... That isn't fair..." she whispered. "Just cause normal kids know. Doesn't mean I do. No one ever told me how I'm supposed to behave..." she added, too shaken up to drink her cocoa or even move yet. Biting her lip, she glanced up at Greg. "I'm sorry I didn't know. It was stupid of me. I'm sorry I failed you...." The young girl finished, trembling lightly.

  • "Stop." He said cutting her off and hugging her. "We both made mistakes...how about we put this behind us."

  • Tris shuddered then gently hugged him back, trembling lightly. Tears filled her eyes and she was suddenly crying hard, hugging him tightly. "I'm scared. I'm so.... so scared..."

  • "Theres no reason to be anymore..." Greg smiled as he held her softly in his arms. Rubbing her back. "No more looking for a home Tris....This is your new home...Were a family now..."

  • Tris cried softly, shaking against him. Finally feeling a little better, she carefully pulled away and curled up by him, drinking her hot cocoa and smiling shyly. "Th-thank you... thank you, Daddy.." she managed, still shaken up after her time at Mama J's home and Greg's anger. She bit her lip, looking away. "I'm sorry for upsetting you though," she whispered, still a bit confused at how quickly he'd forgiven her.

  • Hugging her he kissed the top of her ear. "It's ok Tris...Sometimes people make mistakes that they simply can't control." Brushing her hair out of her eyes he said, "You must be tired..." Standing up he helped her up and took her cup. "How about you get in bed and I will get some Christmas books and we can read them."

  • Tris smiled softly and thanked him. She quietly got up and wandered back over to the counter. Yawning slightly, she quickly poured some stew out of the canister and heated it up for them. "D-Dinner first?" she whispered softly, uncertain if she was allowed to.

  • "Of course!" He laughed softly. "Silly me!" Setting the books in the chair he pulled out the utensils and plopped them in the bowl. Sitting down next to her he smiled, "You know...I'm so happy your here. If you weren't I'd be up sitting in my room doing nothing but staring at the ceiling....Oh how boring that would be!" He chuckled.

  • Tris smiled, tears filling the edges of her eyes. "Yeah... Boring..." she whispered. Staring into her bowl for a moment, Tris wondered what the next day would be like. How many mistakes would they make before they really did get to know he each other? Would he ever just have enough of her and throw her out? What if he found another girl? A better little girl? Someone nicer and prettier and cooler and more talented and...? Thoughts rushing around her head, Tris felt like throwing up.
Gulping slightly, the child quickly ate her soup then began to do the dishes, staring off into space.

  • "Hey...Whats going on?" Greg asked looking at her. "You can talk to me...I promise." Placing his bowl in the sink and looking at her.
