  • Fernstep saw Cherryheart, and pondered whether or not to invite her for the quest. It might not be a good idea to take the herald, though; she might be needed here... the she-cat thought to herself, continuing to scan the camp. After a few heartbeats, she decided to look outside of the campgrounds, and almost ran into Graylegs. "Whoops! Sorry!" she meowed, and, after a moment, added, "I'm going on a quest, and I'm supposed to gather cats... Would you like to join me?"
    ---
Brightpaw yawned and blinked his eyes open. Glancing outside, he realized that he and his brother slept in very late, although no cats woke them up. He hurried back to the nests and started to roughly nudge Darkpaw, "Come on! It's time to get up! We slept in too late!"

  • Taylar gathered up all the herbs she could carry. "Shade! I'm going back to camp. This is all I can hold." She mewed through the leaves. She started bounding back to Gazeclan's camp.

  • Shade smiled at her novice, shaking her head slightly, What am I thinking? She'll be a great Mender when her time comes! The black and white cat ran after Taylar, trying to avoid tripping over her pouch.
    ---
Fernstep blinked as the two Menders hurried past her, returning to the campgrounds. "Think on it, will you? And who knows, you may not even need to come! Pinestar may want to only have two cats on the quest, since the clan is so small," she meowed to Graylegs, and then hurried after her clanmates with an idea.

At the camp, she immediately went up to Taylar, and meowed, "I know this may seem sudden, but I was wondering, would you like to join a quest with me? We will be searching for more cats for the clan, and I think it might help to bring a Mender with me." Pinestar may not be completely okay with this, though... she thought suddenly, doubt entering her mind. But I know that she should understand my reason for choosing a cat who knows medicine. Fernstep returned to the present, and looked to Taylar for her response.

  • Taylar dropped everything and shook some stray leaves from her pelt. Her eyes got as wide as the moon. "Of course I'll go!" she nearly shouted. She bounced up and down like a roadrunner.

  • Fernstep smiled at her enthusiasm, and meowed, "Good! We'll just need permission from Shade and Pinestar, and you can join the quest!" She padded over the Mender's den, where Shade was quietly pulling fresh herbs out of her weird two-leg thing. "I invited Taylar on a quest to find more cats... Is it okay with you?" the champion asked uncertainly, worried that she would need her novice.
    ---
Shade sighed; she had heard the two talking outside, and had already spent some time thinking about it. Pulling the last of the marigold out of her pouch, she thought, Well... No sickness or injury has occured yet... I don't have any need to keep her here... "If she promises to stay safe, and it's okay with Pinestar," she answered, forcing her voice to stay steady. The Mender didn't want to see Taylar hurt, or worse, from going on this journey; she cared too much about her. Shade shuffled to the back of the den, and started to organize the fresh herbs into the store.
    ---
Pinestar overheard the conversation as she padded toward the den. "Fine with me!" she meowed at the mouth of the cave. After a few heartbeats, she decided that two cats would be fine to complete the quest, and turned to the middle of camp. "All cats old enough to catch their own fresh-kill gather to the camp's center for a clan meeting!" she yowled, waiting patiently for the clan to arrive.

  • Pinestar stood in the middle of the camp clearing, watching for Gazeclan to arrive.
    ---
Fernstep meowed to Cherryheart, "Sure, I'll go. First let's hear what Pinestar has to say, though." Of course she already knew what this was about, but she didn't want to mention it yet.
    ---
Shade padded into the clearing, the scent of herbs clinging to her pelt.
    ---
Brightpaw stopped trying to nudge his brother awake, and peeked outside to listen to the clan meeting.

  • Pinestar frowned slightly at her herald, and meowed to her, "Let's wait for the others to come first, it won't take long."
    ---
Fernstep shuffled uncomfortably, anxious to get the announcement over with.

  • Upon hearing Pinestar's call, Drizzleheart padded back into the camp. It was lucky he and Blake had come back in that direction. He walked over to the crowd, found a spot, and sat down.

  • Pinestar nodded approvingly as Drizzleheart entered the camp; she was hoping that the Gazer would be able to make it. Her eyes drifted around the camp as the clan slowly came into view. A cool breeze ruffled her fur, and the judge glanced at the sky. A few clouds were making their way across the sky, but nothing threatening rain yet.

  • A she-cat slunk into GazeClan's territory. She stopped at the entrence to the camp and thought aloud, "This must be the Clan Pinegaze started." She looked around, then groomed her silver and black fur.

  • Pinestar continued to wait for the clan to arrive, growing increasingly impatient.
    ---
Brightpaw's ear twitched at an unfamiliar meow of a cat. He turned his gaze away from meeting and looked towards one of the entrances to camp, where a strange-smelling she-cat was standing. With a backward's glance toward his sleeping brother, the novice snuck out a closer entrance. He slunk around the camp until he reached the entrance where the other cat was. The young cat snuck up behind the she-cat and meowed gruffly but quietly, "Who are you? What do you want?"

  • Cometburn blinked. "I'm an old friend of Pinegaze, and I'm here to see her." She paused a moment. "This is her Clan, isn't it?"

  • Brightpaw growled at the she-cat, "I don't know who you're talking about, and I don't want you here. Get out before I make you!" He unsheathed his claws, and his fur stood on end, ready for a fight to protect his clan.
    ---
Fernstep stopped concentrating on her sister for a moment when she heard a growl. Recognizing it as Brightpaw, she started to pad in that direction. She noticed the novice, angrily staring at something, and saw a new cat a second later. The champion hurried over, and meowed, "Calm down, Brightpaw." She then hardened her gaze and demanded of the new cat, "What's your name, and why are you on our territory?"

  • She sighed. "My name is Cometburn, and I'm an old friend of Pinegaze. I heard she started a Clan with some other cats, and I wanted to come and see her." She thought for a moment and sniffed the air. "Maybe you don't know her as Pinegaze, but I know that she is in that camp."

  • Brightpaw again growled, "I don't know who you're talking about!" But he took heed of Fernstep's warning, and backed off.
    ---
A flash of recognition went across Fernstep's face, and she squinted hard at Cometburn. After a few awkward heartbeats, the she-cat closed her eyes and sighed, "I know who you're talking about; that's my sister. This is Gazeclan, and we're in the middle of a meeting right now... You stay here, and I'll hurry up the meeting." She was purposely not mentioning that Pinegaze was now Pinestar, to leave it as a surprise for the new cat. Opening her eyes again, she meowed to Brightpaw, "You watch her, I'll be back," and hurried back into camp.

Quickly, Fernstep made her way across the small crowd of cats, and pushed her way up Pinestar. She hurriedly whispered to her sister, "We have a new arrival, let's finish this up." Then she returned to her previous spot and watched her sister, her ears angled toward the entrance.

  • Cometburn nodded and sat there. Her thoughts drifted back to the time she had been Comet and had met Pinegaze. She sighed again.

  • With wide eyes at Fernstep's words, Pinestar forced herself to not investigate first and instead say the announcement. Clearing her throat, the she-cat called to the amount of cats surrounding, "Gazeclan, as you all know, we are short on cats. We need more to strengthen our clan. So I have decided to send a quest for two of our cats to go and look for new members and spread the word about Gazeclan. For this quest, I have agreed to send Fernstep and Taylar, with no more and no less cats." She looked fondly at her sister, and then the Mender novice, "I wish you two good fortune on your journey." Glancing back up, she meowed, "Please let the others know about the quest if they didn't make it to the meeting. Dismissed."

With Fernstep leading the way, Pinestar padded towards the entrance. She caught a whiff of a familiar scent but couldn't quite pin it on who it belonged to. But as soon as they reached the edge of camp, and saw Brightpaw sitting next to another cat, she remembered just who it was. "Comet?" she whispered excitedly.
    ---
Shade sighed grumpily as it was announced for Taylar to go on the quest. She stalked off to the Mender's den to prepare traveling herbs.
