  • "No, he won't be there." Damaris shook his head, going through his contacts to find someone he could as for help.

Veleda was almost at the edge of panicking. She couldn't believe this was happening. What if? What if this wasn't a simple bullying scenario? NO. They had been living here peacefully for so long, why would they be attacked all of a sudden?

So why wouldn't people pick up their phones?

"What if they're all gone?" Veleda blinked, realisation setting in. "This place doesn't even have their own facility..."

"Okay okay. Let's not go overboard." Damaris stopped her before she made a crazy theory. He didn't want to think the facility was involved in this in anyway. "Should we check Natalie's home? I know where it is. We should check out if they've disappeared or it's just Ryan."

Hence he led them to her house, finding it.. "Locked? What the heck?"

  • Melody checked her phone. "If they're not here anymore, they left, because im pretty sure teleportation isnt invented yet. I say we should check the train station. The last one for today already left, but maybe we could ask someone who works there?" she said, trying to think as logically as she could.

  • Veleda and Damaris simply obliged, as it was the most logical thing at this moment. But as it happened, nobody knew anything about Ryan or anyone else for that matter.

"If the facility has something to do with this-" Damaris started.

"It does!" Veleda was sitting on a bench now, frustrated and panicked. "They're all bribed up, I'm telling you. We shouldn't have stayed this long."

Damaris's hair was a complete mess from the number of times he had ruffled them due to his nerves. He didn't know what the logical thing to do would be now. Do they go into hiding again? No. They had to find Ryan first. They escaped once. Maybe they could do it again.

He looked desperately at the train station and back, thinking of any possible way they could get to him.

The thoughts didn't finish and he felt his hands pulled back and cuffed. He struggled and pulled back, kicking back at the obvious presence but before he knew it, his vision blurred and darkness took over.

  • Melody was at a loss. She didnt know what to do anymore. They had looked everywhere. She had walked a few steps away from the other two, but turned when she heard something. Not fast enough, because her arms were grabbed and pulled behind her, and she could hear a voice giving out instructions but the words were blurred. So was her vision. The last thing she saw were Damaris and Veleda unconscious.

Ryan was exhausted. The last thing he remembered was going out for a walk. Now, he could only feel how cold the floor was and the general smell of a room that had never seen sunlight. The harsh lights did him no good either and his head felt heavy, so he just stayed there.

He could hear some voices, and eventually his eyes got adjusted and he sat up. He quickly realised he was in some sort of a cell, if not a cage. Across from him were three other people, who all seemed middle aged at least. He didnt know them, but they looked familiar in a way. To his left, the cells were empty, but to his right there was someone.

"Oh my god Dad!" he said, holding on to the bars. Sure, he never got along with the man, but to say he expected the string of curses and the man reaching his hand out trough the bars to punch him would be innacurate. He retreated to the far end of the cell and sunk to the floor, confused and scared.

  • Veleda woke up with a start and realised there was...hair? On her face? She found out it was her own hair but why did her back ache so much? She didn't know. She only remembered sitting on the bench in the train station. Oh God! We need to find him!

She sprang up immediately and then remembered hands grabbing at her. Oh shiz.

    Oh no.

She was feeling around for a light switch like an idiot but caught something similar to bars. A whole wall full of bars. Shitshitshit.

It was a goddamned cage and they had been caught. So she did the only reasonable thing someone would do. She yelled curses at no one in particular to get some sort of reaction. It worked actually, and the lights turned on. The lights just made the situation worse by showing her the uncleaned floor and the hopeless scribbles on the walls. What kind of a crazy place was this?

Damaris was propped up against the wall when he woke up. This was an uncomfortable position. Why would they do this? He knew they had been captured, that much was obvious. By the scientists or someone else? At this point it didn't really matter.

He got on his knees and called out to his friends first, feeling around for some human being. But he was alone it seemed. Why were they separated? God, were they going to start their crazy experiments again? He smacked his head and walked around the cell. Where was Melody and Veleda? And Ryan possibly? Could they hear him if he was louder?

That was dumb. They were probably far apart. And even if they could, what good would that do? Well, he'd know they were all right. For now at least.

The lights turned in his cell and he covered his eyes like a vampire, looking at the source. Then he noticed the camera and waved at it.

He looked at it clearly, making the most threatening look he could and said, "Yo. I hope you haven't done anything to my homies, you mindless bastards." before slumping back on the floor and losing his mind to overthinking.

  • Ryan squinted at the light. he didnt like this place. His father was silent now, but he didnt dare move from his corner.
He heard something. It sounded like....

"Damaris?" it was so far away, a few rows of cages away. "ARE YOU OKAY?" he called, unsure if he was heard or not.

He heard his own name from behind and turned.
"Mel oh god..." that meant they...he couldnt see Veleda. He could only hope she had escaped.

Her head hurt. The light was blinding. Her eyes got used to it fairly quickly. Welp. There he was.
"Ryan! are you okay?" he turned towards her. A door opened somewhere to her left and a few people walked in. Familiar people.

The scientists talked among themselves until they were in front of Ryan's cage. They opened the door and asked him to go with them. He did. What choice did he have? The door closed behind him and he prepared for the worst.

  • Velda heard faraway footsteps and then it was silent yet again. She was running out of anger and starting to panic for everyone else. She could only hope at least someone hadn't been caught.

He heard the distant voice and jumped up.

"Ryan? Melody?" Damaris was yelling now, leaning against the bars. "Are you guys okay?"

  • Melody heard Damaris. "Im fine!" she yelled back "but they took Ryan. Is Vella with you?" she asked. She could faintly see a shape resembling Damaris among all the bars, but there was no second one.

"Oh just forget him. He deserves it. Why do you care anyway" an older man, who looked quite a lot like Ryan said. Was that his father?

The door opened again, but this time it wasnt scientists. Her door was opened by someone.

  • "No, she's not! I havent heard her either." He yelled back. So they had already taken Ryan? If none of them could hear Veleda, was she also taken?

He heard fast but quiet footsteps reach him and then someone started opening his cage. It was a guy and a girl but the girl was off to open the other cages. What was going on here?

"Who the hell are you? I'm sorry, what's going on?" Damaris blurted out just as the door was opened, utterly confused.

"You're being rescued. Stay silent and follow us." The other guy was probably the same age as him but looked like someone who had discovered the world too soon and knew the secrets to the universe.

    "But who are you?"

    "Not scientists."

Damaris sighed and followed on ahead.

Who were these people? Guess he could ask that later.

    "Okay. Sounds good."

He saw other cages being opened by at least two other people. So basically a group of...rescuers? A rebel group sort of?

"Hey, guuuys. Be a little quick, would you?" Someone called from the far off end, possibly the entrance.

"It would be helpful if you actually opened some cages." The guy beside him glowered. He didn't even need to yell that sentence to make her hear him right, she entered dutifully and started helping out from her side.

"I keep the lookout and I help inside too. Make up your mind already...I'm starving and I can't even pop a chip. So many bloody rules." The girl muttered to herself as she opened the cages of a woman and then a man. Who immediately saw each other and hugged. "This is so cute." She commented casually and patted them both. "But we gotta go!"

"Have you seen Damaris? Our son?" The woman was staring at her with so much hope, Clementine had to think a moment.

"Black hair, golden eyes, about this tall." The woman was explaining with gestures.

"Damaris?" Clementine just blinked in confusion. "I'm sure he'll be all right as long as he's here. We're getting everybody out. Just follow me, Ma'am."

"No, we're not leaving without our son." The man spoke at once, standing straighter than before. God.

"Sir, I'm sure one of my fellows will rescue him if he's here. But you need to come with me." She pleaded, "Please. We don't have much time. Maybe he wasn't even captured. Be a little hopeful."

"No, we saw him! He was unconscious at that time." The woman explained.

    "It could be anyone-"

"I know what my boy looks like!"

"Okay okay! You're right. I'm wrong He's...probably here! But you need to come with me now. We'll open more cages and see if he's around, yeah?" They obliged at last, much to Celementine's relief. She didn't have time to deal with people now. This was the most communicative she had been since, well, since she became a part of this group. She realised at one point that she had to be more talkative to be more understandable. But Cassius hadn't done any of that. And Adelaide didn't need to. Probably why they got along. Juliet was too busy with herself. That's why Clementine had taken the responsibility of talking and explaining things to people, unfortunately.

They were the weirdest group of rebels but they hadn't failed yet.

Another woman was unlocked and almost knocked into Clementine, turning to face her all teary-eyed. She looked definitely much more flustered than the couple before.

"I thought you were...nevermind." She whispered, looking back. Damaris' mom patted her shoulder, feeling her concern matching hers. "I hope she's not here. I really hope she's not here."

"I hope so too, Ma'am. And even if she is, we'll rescue her." Clementine tried to give some reassurance, smiling awkwardly at the woman. "Now follow me before we all end up dead, I don't wanna die on an empty stomach." She continued, walking even farther.

Damaris saw Melody from a distance and almost ran into her, "Hey!" That was the perfect time for a bear hug. He just wished Ryan and Veleda were a part of this too, like last time. "You're okay?" He asked, releasing her and looking at her face. She looked confused if anything, just like him. Good. No crazy experiments on her.

"Whoever they are, they're helping. Maybe we'll get Veleda and Ryan too." He nodded and only now noticed the girl staring at them. Another rescuer. But a good-looking one who was smirking. At him precisely.

"Why hellooo." He began, "Didn't see you there." He flashed a charming grin, or as charming as you could look with messed up hair and crumpled dust covered clothes. He bet he still looked hella good but damn, he wished he was wearing something more decent. Still, some girls loved the rough look, so it didn't matter.

  • The girl who had let Melody out pointed silently towards the door and then walked away to open other cages. She was odd.

She turned to go look for Damaris, but was more than happy to bump into him right away, and get a hug.

But when the first thing he did right after was try to flirt with another girl, she lost all interest. "I think i saw your mom heading out, if youre interested." she said and walked out.

"Thats because im kinda saving you right now" Juliet replied with a wink. "Come on, we're the last ones"

  • Damaris came out of his trance for now, blinking in surprise. "My mom, here?" He sort of made a run outside, surely discovering both his parents and squeezing them at once, unexpectedly being hugged by his mother and father.

"What happened, how did you-" He started, failing right away as he was hit in the head by his mother.

"What are you doing here! I told you to stay safe! Where's Melody?" Then she saw her and hugged the girl too, longer than Damaris.

"Um. I appreciate the happy reunion but we really gotta go." Clementine added awkwardly, looking at all the happy people. The other woman had still not found her daughter and was looking desperately back.

"Maybe she's not here," Clementine reassured.

Cassius wasn't sure what all this commotion was about but it wasn't helping their mission so it had to stop. He walked ahead and faced them all at once, "Does this place look like a cafeteria?"

"Uhh...no." Clementine dared answer for everyone.

"Then move." And he walked off, leading them out and not caring if anyone followed. But they did obviously, more silently then before.

Damaris slipped beside Melody and whispered, "Are you sure they just took Ryan? Where's Veleda? Can't we rescue them both too?"

  • "I didnt see her" Melody answered looking back. "We get out of here and try to reach her somehow. If we cant, she got captured as well and we'll come back. Either way, we'll find her. "

"Umm...are we leaving this old dude back here?" Juliet asked.

"I hope they catch you." The man answered.

"Happy imprisonment " Juliet smiled and waved, following the group.

  • A day ago heavy alarms had been set off and she didn't know what for but it sure as hell sounded like freedom. But soon, the hope died away when the people who came were not rescuers. Whatever the alarms were for, it wasn't freedom.

Veleda wasn't expecting the gaurds or whoever they were to be wearing protective clothing and a mask when they came to shift her cell. She knew there was no use making a run for it but she still wanted to beat them up. It didn't work for obvious reasons and they had to tranquilize her to stop her efforts and constant cursing.

She woke up now in a room too bright and too fancy for her liking, strangely smelling like a clinic.

Damaris was sitting on the table in the kitchen and trying to figure out how these guys had survived in here.

The headquarters was basically a small building on the outskirts of town surrounded by thick vegetation. It was a no-go zone so it was well away from the public eye and hence any kind of monitoring. It was a good spot to hide, yes. But not necessarily a permanent one. There were a bunch of these spread across town and sometimes they needed to change places. This one in particular was only inhabited by a small number of people and they were all rescuers of sort if Damaris had to put it a certain way. As for now, their focus was on their friends who were still there. Last day's rescue was a success but it only meant that the security measures were even higher. The angry dude and the quiet girl probably had a plan in mind because everyone else looked clueless for now.

He chomped on the carrot and watched his mother cook food. For a team of refugees, they sure had a good supply of food. Good connections perhaps?

"Stop eating those carrots! I need them for the soup." He heard his mother say.

"Just one." He jumped off the table, getting another one and walking out the kitchen before she noticed.

"Where do you guys get all the food?" He asked the first person he saw, Juliet, he thought.

  • Yet again, when he opened his eyes, a blinding light forced him to keep them shut. He took a deep breath. His head hurt, so did basically his whole body. He was on the floor, he realized, and it felt cold against his cheek, which wasnt a bad thing. It was nice. Calming even.

His eyes got adjusted to the light and the first this he noticed was the blood on his hand. A small panicky feeling took over and he sat up suddenly, his head aching even more from the sudden movement. It was way. too. damn. bright.

There were traces of blood on his hands, and his sleeves were pulled up, which he quickly fixed. He was a bit relieved (or saddened) to see Veleda next to him, separated by a wall of glass. Glass in which he unfortunately saw his own reflection.

    He was a mess.

"There's a small group of actual adults that support us and believe we shouldnt be guinea pigs. One of those happens to be the owner of the only chain of supermarkets in the city" Juliet answered. "What's with the carrot tho"

Melody ended up in the kitchen somehow. The house wasnt big, there were no places to his from people, and the kichen was the only room with just one person in it. She quietly slipped in and looked into the pots and asked if there was anything she could help with. It certainly beat being alone in a room full of people...

  • Veleda noticed the glass wall the first thing and saw the identical cell on the other side, only empty. She looked around her and noticed the doors in both rooms were identical too and there was another wall made of glass on the other side, not empty this time. There was a bundle on the floor of a familiar human being. Same clothes and those right red hair on the white tiles.

She gasped, shooting across the side and planting her hands on the glass. "Hey! You're- OH MY GOD!" Then she noticed the blood and panicked. "What happened? What did they? Oh my God!" What the heck had happened to him?

"Can you hear me?" She tapped on the glass, frantically. "Where does it hurt? What did they do?"

"That's great." No wonder they had a good supply of food. "I like them." He shrugged, then smiled. "You want one?"

  • "Im okay!" He answered, raising his hands. He then noticed the source of the blood, his wrists, which had red still bleeding a little marks all around. Funny. He didnt remember anything like this, or struggling, or his hands being tied. Whatever, it was gonna heal. "Are you okay? Did they do anything to you? how do you feel?" he asked, moving closer to the glass separating them.

"Nno thanks, I dont like carrots. " Juliet answered. "Thank your mom for cooking for us by the way. Its been a while since anyone who knows how to cook made something. I mean...i can make pancakes and thats about it. "

  • Veleda saw the wrists clearly and gasped again. Had he been tied up? What the hell?

"I'm fine! What the heck is up with your arms? What did they do? Bandage them with your shirt or something-" She answered back, "What's going on? Are you in pain?"

"Well that's makes the two of us." Damaris chuckled. "Mom is an amazing cook but she never let me help her around. Hey, so what did you guys plan for the rescue?

  • "I dont remember? I dont know?" Ryan answered. It was all a blur really. He didnt exactly know how to answer. "It...does hurt. But Im used to it so its not a big deal" he shrugged. He saw worse. He did worse.

The woosh sound of an automatic door was heard and a man in a white doctor coat walked up to them, writing the time and other observations on his little notepad.

"Rescue? What rescue?" Juliet asked. "Its too dangerous now. We have to wait at least a few days or more, because their security is higher now and i personally am too beautiful to be experimented on."

  • A second later someone entered her room too, not with a notepad though. There were two of them and they were here to take her away.

"What did you do to him?" She seethed but all in vain, watching the stupid little syringe and knew what that was going to do. She wasn't scared of no syringe! Maybe she could at least land a punch or two before going down. She did more damage than she had hoped for but soon darkness took over and she felt herself dragged off.

She was expecting to wake up in pain or something, maybe getting the same fate as Ryan but she was...perfectly all right? Apart from a bad backache and overall numbness that came with being in the same position for too long.

How long had she been out? She looked around in panic, same room, same sickening smell and light. She spun around quickly but Ryan wasn't in the other room. It was empty like before. Shitshitshit. What the actual bloody heck were they doing to him? What the hell was this place anyway? And why didn't they hurt her too?

And she couldn't do anything about it. She slid towards the glass that separated her from Ryan's room and stared down in shock and fear. She saw the droplets of blood on the tiles, covering her mouth in despair and watched how some of them weren't even dry. A tremor went through her body and she slumped beside the glass in hopelessness and plain misery. What the heck were they doing to him?!

  • He didnt know exactly how he felt. At this point, everything started to blur together, the doctors, the nurses, the lights and smells and the blood. He didnt really mind. He almost couldnt feel the pain anymore.

The doctors went away and he felt himself being lifted and put on his own feet, which didnt work very well, so the two people lifted him up and took him back to what he guessed was his cell? room?

He saw Veleda and relaxed when he saw she didnt look injuried or anything. He moved next to the glass separating them and leaned his head on it.

A doctor walked in and stopped in front of Veleda's cell.

"Who helped your friends get out? " he asked
