[ About Us. ]

Sky Rocket cats live high in the mountains, where their bodies have changed in order to cooperate with the cool, thin air. They have long fur coats to keep them warm. The dens of the Sky Rockets are more cave-like than the valley and forest Clan's in order to keep them warm from strong winds. The mountain cats usually hunt small birds, and occasionally groups of cats will bring down an eagle or other bird of prey. When prey is scarce in the mountains, groups will go down to the lake to catch fish, or into the forest for voles and other small animals. The cats have many predators, such as; birds of prey, elk, deer, wolves, foxes, coyotes, and other various animals that live on the Afognak Island in Alaska.

Hunters and twolegs come to the Island year-round, so sometimes cats are shot by stray bullets. Many times, when food is scarce in the winter, the mountain cats will find half-eaten elk and deer from the strong forest cat's leftovers. When the lake freezes over in leaf-bare, cats from all three Clans gather in a triangular shape around it as a Gathering. The mountain cats have gray-colored pelts, helping them blend in with the mountainside, but occasionally a kit may be born with a brighter colored pelt. Depending on size, strength, speed, agility, and pelt color (among many other abilities) will decide what rank a kit will be. This is decided at kitting. The "common" names of the Afognak Island cats are listed in another link, which is below.
