The sound of paws pounding across the leaf-strewn ground drummed through the forest as Skunkice pursued a plump, yet surprisingly quick rabbit.
Something had seemed... off, when the tabby woke that morning. There was some significant change that the she-cat just couldn't place. But, that was in the back of her mind now.
Now she focused on catching this rodent.
Skunkice chased the rabbit to a clearing, where the creature was backing up against a tree. Moving quickly, she lunged forward and slit the rabbit's throat. But, upon contact with the creature, she began to feel a horrible ripping sensation in her throat, and the tabby fell to the ground in agony.
The words what's wrong with me?! pounded through her head, an eternal loop that didn't cease until she lost consciousness.
When she came to, the sun had moved a significant amount across the sky. Skunkice rose, with difficulty, to her paws, and looked down at the now-lifeless rabbit, which now had several maggots flying around it.
"What's wrong with me?"
