Little solid black serval kit wandered out of the nursery and away from the watchful eyes of her adoptive mother, Mockingpaw. She recently joined Windclan, and she hoped to get back to her home and real mother as soon as possible, but things didn't look to bright. De had heard rumors that The Elite had fallen and those who left joined other groups. Solem, a polar bear from the Elite had joined Windclan like her. She was glad that she wasn't the only former Elite member here, but having heard the news devastated her. Her mother and three siblings had been in Elite territory while she had wandered off. What happened to them? Did mother ever come back? Should I have stayed with them and suffer the same fate? De stopped just outside of the nursery entrance and sat down, with her head bowed and thoughts clouded. She wasn't usually like this; she was outgoing and bubbly, always ready to begin each day with bursting energy.

As she sat there, she wondered why she even stayed in Windclan. There wasn't anything here for her, other than Mockingpaw and protection. As well as the fact that her home was no more. There was nowhere else for her to go, but she could always go to her father's clan. If she knew where that was. With a heavy sigh, De laid down, her head rested on her little paws and her now yellow-green eyes focused on a small line of ants that went around her paw, heading back to their home.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: 1.5px dashed burlywood; padding: 10px; border-radius: 5px; min-height: 30px; width: 350px;]A shaggy, fawn-coloured kit paced up and down in the nursery. Somehow, he felt, nothing in his life was working out the way he had wished.
Yes, he had made a few friends, and yes, he was starting to be better at bringing himself to talk to cats he didn't know, but those were still so small changes - hard to bear for an impatient cat like Owlkit. And the problem of the bigger kit's shunning him because he was no good at mock fights probably wouldn't ever resolved, with him being apprenticed reasonably soon.
Well, the young cat probably would be able to even out his lack of physical power through training, now that he was also starting to grow from tiny to small. It made him feel a little strange, though, and since he had realized this change, the tomkit could have sworn his fur was even untidier than before.

I am worrying too much, he knew. Probably it was because some of his worries were not as imminent as before that others kept popping up to take their place. Deciding to get some fresh air, Owlkit directed his steps towards the opening in the den.

Outside, the fawn cat managed to stop himself in time, almost bumping into another cat. He had been to absorbed in his thoughts to pay attention.
"Sorry," Owlkit meowed awkwardly, averting his eyes from the black kit.
Why did he always have to encounter other cats in this way or in similarly embarrassing ones?[/fancypost]

With her mind wrapped in a hurricane of thoughts, she hadn't heard the fawn tom padding around until he nearly ran into her. She had seen the tom around but never approached him. To her, he looked like a hopeless kit who would just bring her down further into the pit she dug herself in. [Harsh much De?! >.<] She never thought of him ever being a friend, let alone an acquaintance. But for some odd reason, she was happy to interact with someone other than her new mother, despite how this conversation started.

De looked up at the fawn tom, with the ants out of her view and her thoughts turning to the calm after a storm. She was rather upset that he nearly ran into her. Couldn't he have seen her or at least look where he padded? But she also felt upset at herself for thinking and feeling this way. "Oh, no! It's okay. It's my fault. I should've known better then to sit in front of the entrance. This is a heavily padded area." She forced a slight smile along her face, but her expression quickly transformed into wonder. Why doesn't he look me in the eyes? It's part of showing respect, isn't it? "Are you okay," she asked, wondering if something was wrong.

"Oh, not at all! I should have paid more attention. I'm sorry," he apologized once more.
He couldn't tell whether she had said that because she felt that way, or because she had wanted him to repeat his apology by making him feel guilty that she was blaming herself although it was his fault. While this definitely sounded complicated, there were such cats, and the young tom didn't want to risk a quarrel over not even fully running into someone.

The fawn kit returned an equally forced smile, although this was less because of the young serval's expression than because he felt more like turning back and hiding himself away in some deep part of the nursery again than maintaining a happy face. He knew there was no reason to be that embarrassed over something that unimportant, but he couldn't help the emotion.
On some days it really would be better not to get up in the first place, Owlkit figured. And why were cats always asking him whether he was alright? "Yes, I'm fine," he reassured the black she-kit. "I just... wanted to get some fresh air, you know."
The shaggy cat shuffled his paws, unsure whether to wait for a reaction or just leave.[/fancypost]

De tilted her head slightly and raised a brow. This tom was taking the blame. He was apologizing when De knew she should be the one. "Oh, well, don't worry about it. It's nothing to fret over." Her eyes ran all along the fawn tom-kit, studying him and trying to get a read on him. She only judged him from afar, but now that they were face to face, she decided to take advantage of that and really get to know him. After all, she didn't really have many friends just yet. Sure Mockingpaw was like a friend, but she was really her new mother. So, she assumed she didn't count. But the main reason she didn't just brush him off rudely was because she saw a helpless looking kit like herself. Only a few days ago she was in his position; of course she drastically changed, but he must have been like that since birth. "Yeah. I understand you." she meowed with a smile. "I like the air, it's always there for you, no matter what. It never goes away or leaves you." De swiftly shut her mouth, thinking she sounded like a total nut-job. But she couldn't help let out a small giggle at herself.

That at least meant she wasn't actively trying to pick on him or just generally looking for trouble, which improved the situation a lot. The tom gave a small not of acknowledgement at her answer, then started studying his paws again when the black kit let her gaze wander over him. He couldn't explain her sudden interest in him, but he believed it probably was because she hadn't been convinced he was alright and was worried. While that was a nice trait of her, the young fawn cat didn't quite know what to make of all that attention.
"Yes, I guess that's true," he replied at her remark about the air. While it sounded very poetically phrased to Owlkit, which he usually found a bit hard to follow, he agreed that it was nice to have some constant, unchanging factor in your life. Further, it seemed like the femme was troubled about something, too. The shaggy kit looked up at her, a bit too fast to be a random movement, tilting his head slightly. However, he felt to shy to return the question whether she was alright.[/fancypost]

She thought he felt uncomfortable with her looking at him, and felt that it'd be rude for her to continue. The ants that were there only moments ago were now gone. Leaving her alone once again. De couldn't help but let out a small scoff, remembering what this nostalgic feeling that washed over her was. Like the ants, her mother had left her and her brothers. The lean, black serval kit lifted her head into the blue sky above, attempting to shake away the painful feeling. "Sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable," she finally replied, while turning to look at him. When she saw him look up at her, she couldn't help but turn her gaze back to the sky. It was unexpected and rather surprising to see the shy tom-kit take his eyes off the ground. The serval kit wondered what had made him look up. It couldn't have been something she said and she wasn't that interesting to study. Whatever his reasoning was, she didn't make any objections to. After all, she just got done studying him and making him feel uncomfortable, and now was her turn. So she saw it as.

Err, as Owlkit is an apprentice now, there is a question (as I wouldn't call it a problem): Would you like to continue the threads with both of them as kits or do you want to skip to a later point where he is an apprentice already?
Either one is fine with me. :)[/fancypost]

    IC:
[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: 1.5px dashed burlywood; padding: 10px; border-radius: 5px; min-height: 30px; width: 350px;]Well, Owlkit just couldn't quite figure out what this she-kit was trying to convey by her behaviour. "It's fine, don't worry," he quickly replied to her apology, trying not to sound too confused. One moment, she was seemingly annoyed with him or at least pretty reserved, and the next one, she would start sharing her thoughts or being sorry for staring at him. So far, he had not encountered anyone like this.
Outgoing cats either would stay clear of him because he was quiet and they wanted more talkative company, or they would just drown him in a never-ending gush of words because they didn't care whether he talked back or not. And the exchanges he had with less outgoing cats like himself would usually amount to no more than an exchange of formalities as both of them wouldn't feel comfortable enough to say any more. Well, admittedly, the two kits hadn't said much than "sorry" and "it's fine" on both sides, but the fawn tom didn't really have the impression the young serval was shy.
But to at least complete the small talk, he realized they still were missing something. "Err, my name is Owlkit, by the way," he mewed a little sheepishly, being aware how strange it was (although the black cat might not feel the same way) that it was him introducing himself first, without being asked. "Just because I feel I should at least introduce myself if I almost run you down," he added quietly.[/fancypost]

As De looked at the fawn tom for a few heartbeats, she began to realize just how bad she was with judging others from afar. At first glance, she thought Owlkit was unreliable and antisocial because he didn't like anyone, but now it didn't seem true. He was just shy and awkward; perhaps it was because he had never had much experience with socializing.
As her yellow-green eyes looked him over once more, she couldn't help but smile. This tom was really a friendly fellow who just needed somebody to guide him in socializing. Whether she became that guide or not, she still wanted to keep in touch with him. She considered him to be her first friend. "Hi Owlkit, I'm Déesse. But everybody calls me De." Her tone was friendly with a hint of excitement. Now they were on that 'first name bases' thing that she had heard about.
Just barely hearing the fawn kit's comment, she softly giggled. She didn't know how to explain it but Owlkit was rather silly. In a good way, of course. After her giggle, the black she-kit let out a sigh of relief. She hadn't been so entertained since the day Mockingpaw adopted her. Turning to look back up at the sky, she gathered her mass amount of courage and asked, "Owlkit? Do you think that maybe we can be friends?"

Owlkit's confusion at the black kit's behaviour was starting to turn into fascination. He could never tell what her reaction to his actions would be - and usually they were more positive than the sometimes rather pessimistic tomkit would have anticipated.
"Nice to meet you," he replied, then, after a short pause to think whether to use the full or the short version of her name, added, "De," and smiled back at her. Of course, his smile was still more unsure than the femme's, but it was an improvement, all the more for a cat like him, to be sure. It broadened as she started giggling, even though he couldn't tell what the young serval found so funny, and even though it might be about him, for all he knew. But the fawn cat somehow felt it was a little infectious, and so his expression remained, the negative thoughts for once secondary.
At Déesse's question, though, Owlkit didn't know what to say at first. He just hadn't thought friendship was something to ask and confirm, but something that grew steadily without talking about it - at least that was how he had made his not too numerous, but existent friends. "Y-yes, sure," he meowed after a short pause. Why not? he wanted to ask, but then thought it might sound weird, like the she-kit had suggested they played a game of moss ball.[/fancypost]

The smile which had made its way onto Owlpaw's face earlier was accompanied by widened eyes (and slightly raised eyebrows, or the cat equivalent to them) at Déesse's sudden burst of energy. He felt that if he could comprehend why she was acting in the way she did one day, he would have come pretty far; but right now he was still at loss as to why the young serval was quiet and contemplating in one instant and lively and bubbly in the next one. Also, it made the fawn tom feel a little weird sitting still while she was on the brink of bouncing up and down, but he figured it would make him feel even sillier if he were to copy her stance, so he stayed where he was.
At the young she-cat's multitude of suggestions, the apprentice didn't even bother to think of an idea himself at first as he was occupied enough trying to keep up with hers, so when she ended, he only meowed, "Oh, it's fine. Err..." then paused to think. After a few more moments, he finished, "Maybe the one you suggested? Chasing after grasshoppers?" Owlpaw figured it was best to choose one of De's suggestions, as he could be sure it wasn't something she had a thorough aversion to, and he enjoyed bug-hunting himself.

I am so so so sorry for not replying. :'( I just finished exams and they had to be my top priority so I didn't both to look at my computer. And then family came for a visit. Again, I am so sorry.
I think it'll be easier to remain here. I don't think we need to skip ahead. c:

She felt pleased that he chose one of her options, but also pretty embarrassed that she suddenly started shooting off suggestions at him, knowing he was more of the reserved types. De only nodded and widened her smile before looking around. Her yellow-ish eyes glanced quickly around the clearing, trying to catch a glimpse of everyone nearby. "So, should we sneak out and play in the field, or should we ask for permission?" Knowing De, she would've easily and thoughtlessly have chosen the first option, but she asked Owlpaw, wanting to make the right choice; one that would make him feel comfortable. "Or do you guys catch grasshoppers in camp?" At her second question, she turned her gaze back towards the fawn tom-kit.
She wondered why he remained there, sitting still while she was ready to just run off. He surely was a strange feline in her eyes, but she liked him. He was friendly and she figured they were getting along just fine so far. But she couldn't help be feel like she was just too much for his reserved personality.

No, don't worry! Exams are definitely more important. :) I hope they went well for you! And I had problems with my internet connection, anyway, I only managed to get online today. :-\

At De's next question, Owlpaw was both relieved she was fine with his decision and worried about his next one. He definitely didn't want to sneak out and possibly get into trouble, and he generally was a cat to firmly stick to rules. But on the other hand, he could see the she-kit was almost bursting with energy, and he didn't want to come across as completely boring.
Cautiously, he started, "Well, we could try to find some in here, but we'd have to be lucky to find more than one or two." He had to admit that, although it would have been the easiest option just to stay in camp. "I think it's best if we ask for permission, though, just to be on the safe side," he then ventured. "I'm sure they'll say yes if we don't go to far." After all, he was already six moons and the black serval wasn't too tiny, either. Hopefully, though, the warrior they would ask wouldn't insist of someone going with them, or Owlpaw would be embarrassed to ever have suggested asking.

She knew well that he was right. Of course he was an apprentice so he could head out, but only with permission. But for her to leave camp, and with a new apprentice, was a different story. Her paws tingled as she knew she only had one more week before she would be an apprentice like Owlpaw, and realizing that made her fur stand on end. She wouldn't be able to hang out with him as much as she could now. Though she didn't like the thought of missing out on practice, she despised the thought of not hanging out with her friend. If they were even considered friends. You couldn't just asked to be a friend. It had to develop through interactions like conversing, taking part in similar activities, and even hanging out. De had to be all weird and straight up ask to be friends. But it wasn't her fault since she never knew how to make one and she never had any beforehand.
"Well, then I guess we better look for a realllly nice Warrior," and with that she whirled around, her yellow-green optics looking around. But she soon grew embarrassed. She never spoke to another soul besides Owlpaw and Mockingjay. She hardly even knew these felines' names, not to mention she's only ever noticed them once. Not wanting to make things worse, she continued to move her head around in order to make it look as if she was searching for someone. "Uh, do you by any chance know a nice Warrior? I'm sure they'd all be happy to let us go have fun, but I don't know which one to choose." Deesse didn't want to admit that she knew practically nobody, but if it came down to it, she would.
