[justify] [Alright. I'll start from right after the choosing ceremony.]
I clasp my calloused hands around the sturdy net, eagerly waiting for the first initiate to come barreling
down through the opening in the ceiling. I could only guess which faction this brave soul would transfer from, most likely a Candor or maybe Erudite. the soft buzz of the train on the other side of the city was merely audible, but signaled that the initiates were on their way to the compound, preparing to change their fates.

unlucky as I am, there is little I remember about my old life, my old faction. they told me I was from abnegation, that my defect was quite the surprise. but they couldn't tell me why I had chosen dauntless. they didnt know, nobody but me would. until my accident, which changed everything I was, am. it took me five weeks to remember my name; I didn't want help recalling my past. somehow through all of this, I ended up on the top at the end.

the train was buzzing closer, and any minute now I would see their face; the bravest initiate of the year. that, or the stupidest. a grin crept onto my slender face, and for once I didn't try to wipe it away. nobody was here to see my rock-like resolve slip away, showing the real me, the small sliver of the old menu still carried inside.

[sorry it's kind of terrible. I'm not great with opening posts either.]

The low murmurs of hushed voices fill the train car. Most hold hints of worry while a rare few hold excitement in their tones. My brown eyes flicker over towards a group of the initiates from Dauntless whispering rapidly to one another, probably about the process we all will have to go through in order to be officially part of our new facton. Lucky them, most likely they know all about the initiation because of their parents, lucky them.

My gaze moves towards the open doors of the train and watch as the rooftops fly by. I wonder when we will reach Dauntless, it shouldn't be too long from now. I many not be Erudite but I know enough about to facton to know that they aren't extremely far apart. I let out a sigh and tap my finger against the steel floor of the train and close my eyes as I wait.

My body relaxes as I lay there, only slightly aware of the world around me, so when voice booms through the room to get ready to leave I jump a bit as my eyes snap back open. A few snickers rise into the air and the occasional murmur of Stiff follow. Hearing the dreaded nickname given to Abnegation I bite my tongue. I absolutely hate that name. Casting a glare in their direction I stand up to peer out the door. As we get closer to what I believe to be our destination I realize that the train isn't slowing down. Confused I blink a few times and start to turn when a girl dressed in yellow cut nearly runs into me. "We aren't stopping," She murmurs twirling her hair around on her finger nervously. I start to respond when someone nearby, probably from Erudite stated the obvious.

Ah crap, jump off the train onto the rooftop? I bare got on this train and now I might not even get off it until I am labeled as factonless. I place a hand to my forehead trying to collect myself as we get closer to the gravel covered rooftop. Nearby I see some of the Dauntless born backing up away from the open doors I follow their suit not knowing what is going to happen. Are we going to get shot at? Those too close to the edge will be pushed? The possibles are endless and not many seem to be in my favor. I keep an eye on them as the first cars reach the rooftop. From my position. I can see bodies moving but too many transfers stand in my way. As I try to figure what is happening I see someone fly past the door and land on the rooftop and let out a gasp. I stare for a minute in shock as more kids jump out, jump? We have to jump off? Part of me expected something crazy like this and is ready to join them while the larger, sensible side is shocked and refuses to move. So I stand against the wall like a shell-shocked idiot as the others take a leap of faith. Soon I'm only a few cars away from never entering Dauntless and my heart is racing as I wonder what to do.

Someone brushes up against me and makes an attempt to grab my hand. Surprised I let them and peer over at the person to see the girl in yellow from earlier. "Will you jump with me?" She asks softly tightening her grip. Without even thinking I give her a nod back and press myself up against the wall harder getting ready to run. "In 3,2,1, Go!" I say before racing forward with the scared girl in tow. When I reach the edge I jump just as my car starts to leave the rooftop. At first I feel as if I'm not going to make it and close my eyes waiting to hit the ground below. My landing happens faster than expected and is much sharper than imagined. My eyes flicker open and to my surprise find myself on the rooftop. I almost let out a cheer of delight but I hold it back. Instead I let go of the panting girl's hand and stand up, brushing off the thin layer of dirt that now covers my gray clothes.

I turn around to look back down at the shaking girl as she rises to her feet. "Are you alright?" I ask her holding out a hand that she gladly takes and nods. "Come on then," I say offering her a smile and leading us towards the large group gathered around the rooftop listening to the man speaking. By the time we come over the words jumping off float towards me before he finishes and gestures towards the edge. Jumping? Again? Man, why must love nearly dying, I think letting to of the girls hand and inching closer to the edge to peek over. I expect to see water or a net but instead just a dark hole leading into a building below that has no sign of breaking our fall. My eyes sudden as I back up into the silent crowd, not a voice or whisper can be heard from anyone including the Dauntless born which scares me a bit. Shouldn't they all be diving over the edge as if they are merely jumping onto a bed? I guess not.

Our silence and lack of movement frustrates the instructor and he gives us another prod. "Who is gong to be our first jumper? First initiate to enter Dauntless? The one who gets a larger amount of respect and honor than those who come after them?" He tempts but gets no response. The silence is almost deafening to the point of where I need to just do it. I take a deep breath and step forward towards the edge. I peer over the small rail before climbing on top of it and balancing on the thin beam. "Wow, you all let a Stiff jump before you? We must have a bunch if scaredy cats here then if a Stiff is going first willingly." He taunts but I ignore him and take another breath. Here goes nothing, I think before stepping out into the nothingness of the air. Instantly my stomach drops as I fall freely through the air into the dark hole below. As I pass the roof I brace myself for the concrete I'm sure to land on.

Then suddenly my body seems to freeze in the air before throwing me back up only to catch me again. Slowly I open my chocolate colored optics and look around me and take in the large room I have just entered and the net I now lay in. I collect myself for a second before rolling over onto my stomach and working on finding a way off of the web of rope.

Above me, I heard the pounding rush of the train speeding by, the soft clank of feet colliding with the rooftop. adrenaline was no doubt running through each initiates veins, consuming their body, their mind. there was a hesitant feeling, and it seemed like ages before the small sliver of light was disrupted my a falling figure, the brave initiate who took the first leap towards their new life.

as the petit frame collided with the flexible net, it's form cascading and then flinging her into the air once more. eventually it died down and the net was still, the small girl fumbling for the edge of the net. I reach forward, my face giving the tiniest of grins. my fingers firmly clasped the small hand, and I gently pulled her free from the net.

she was clad in a long dress, gray in coloring. the shock must have shown on my slender face; I had not expected an abnegation girl to jump first. it was hardly heard of. even I hadn't jumped first; or at least I was told so. after the shock went away, maybe I hinted at awe. it was quite daring, really. especially for a stiff.

"welcome to dauntless." my voice was think and low; powerful, yet kind. I towered over her, but then again I was taller than average. running a hand quickly through my dark hair, one of my habits. I wasn't sure if I'd picked up before or after my accident.

Around me the ropes making up the net hugs my small frame as if trying to keep me in its grasp. My fingers search for the edge of the net when I feel strong fingers wrap around my hand. My body lurches forward as the faceless person pulls me out of the thick web. Normally I like to do things myself but this person is my saving grace. It would be embarrassing to be struggling in the net while those watching snicker in amusement by my actions. Or if another initiate were to jump and land on me, that would also be embarrassing and painful for the both of us.

My brown eyes look up at the young man helping me out and see the shock on his lean face. I feel my edge of my mouth curl up into a small smile as he lifts me out of the net and sets me on the ground. I move my eyes up towards his chocolate gaze as the look fades away to an expression that slightly resembles awe which makes my cheeks turn a light pink. As his low voice welcomes me to Dauntless I can't help but notice how easy on the eyes he is. Especially when he runs a hand through his dark brown hair giving it a messy but strong look to himself.

I start to thank the handsome young man when a scream breaks through the air. I whip my head around to look back up at the hole just as a familiar looking yellow blob comes falling out of the hole towards the net. They bounce once just like I did before squirming around in the net in a slightly panicked state. Instinctively I reach my hand in to help the girl I had sort of befriended unites before out of the net. As I drag her out and try to help her down I stumble bit. Back at home the guys got to do all of the hard stuff so I'm not exactly strong enough to lift another girl out of a net who is most likely weighs more than me from her position. I should have just let the captivating instructor help her instead but the Abnegation in me was too strong. After she and I ungracefully get her out of the net I feel my cheeks get warm as my eyes momentarily flicker over towards the dark haired instructor standing nearby. Way to be a Stiff, I think before walking away from the net with the Amity girl in my wake.
