    Tattoos were part of the battle techniques he was taught as a young boy. Even though Pictland was dead, the Picts were very much alive back then, and had raised him since Ireland had to be in his own country the majority of the time (although he wasn't pleased when Norway decided he was called Pictland). Once, real Pictish tattoos had embellished his skin. Over time, they faded, until they were finally gone, but these tattooos reminded him of happy, albeit battle filled, days.
