[justify]In 2092, the government of Russia began to fund a new, secret organization called the Butterfly Corporation. This was a genetically engineering/experimental testing facility focusing mainly on organic matter. The world was in practical ruins from a biological war that swept the Earth, leaving three dominant countries; America, Russia, and China. In 1995, eight newborn girls were taken from the adoption agency for experimental purposes, the entirety of their existences wiped from every system, and they were each given a new name: Monarch, Sicklewing, Massilia, Saturn, Birch, Karner, Julia, and Mariposa. At six months of age, each test subject was injected with a different experimental substance.
By age five, seven of the girls had developed unique abilities, none like the others. However, Test Subject M-8-95, Mariposa, had exhibited no (detectable) changes. As the other girls continued to develop their physical abilities in various training activities and simulators, Mariposa, or Posy, as her "sisters" called her, kept to herself and rarely spoke. She stayed, secluded, in parts of the facility where she could read. The scientists found that her IQ was like that of an adult's though she was merely five years old.
At age eight, she showed incredible advancements in her ability to absorb and retain information. This caused the scientists to subject her to various instruments and to give her art supplies. She showed a natural talent for painting and drawing, learning instruments at a very quick pace. Amazed at how well she progressed in these arts, it was brought to the government's attention of her mind's stimulation.
Following the orders to use the strange, chemical substance given to her as and infant, the scientists inject one other test subject, Test Subject B-4-95, with the serum. Sadly, this resulted in her painful death, her body, for whatever unknown reason, rejecting its components.
Mariposa was now a very valuable asset, being the only one who contained the DNA to function and excel with the chemicals. By age twelve, she was put into various educational simulators and given tests that no child her age could ever even begin to comprehend. With her mind growing and using more capacity than ever thought, more test subjects were taken in. These were male infants, all injected with the same substance that she had been, but all dying within ten days of contact.
Mariposa had become such a sense of intelligence to the corporation that the hierarchy of government ordered her containment lest she turn rogue or someone else try to use her for power. Little did they know that was exactly what would happen.
Somehow, Americans had caught wind of the Butterfly Corporation, and their systems were infiltrated. The entire facility was blown to smithereens, waging a war between them. All other test subjects were exterminated, as well as all scientists in the facility at the time.
Mariposa was taken to America, hid away in an underground facility. For an entire year, she was kept there, a war up above in the states. Bioweapons were released everywhere, viruses mutating living matter, turning them into emotionless cannibals who felt no pain and were pumped up with adrenaline and the urge to eat. Stamina, speed and strength increased, and what were called "Shredders" were born.
Mariposa had escaped her confinement when generators ran out of juice a year or two after Shredders started to rule the topside. The city nearest to her was Genoa, old town Chicago that was divided between a military run group and a group of "savages" or bandits, reckless, inconsiderate surviving machines with whom the preferred form of government was Anarchy.
While wandering aimlessly into a part of the territory that nobody inhabits except for Shredders, the now 19-year-old girl is attacked by the beasts. Luckily, she is saved by one of the "bandit" refugees, know as the Seagulls. His name is Augustus, and though he is not smart when it comes to books, he is incredibly agile and survival or street intelligent. The two will fall in love, yada yada.
Semi-Advanced and must be active.
