xxxGod, he was nervous. He felt like 'new kid' was plastered across his forehead. What if he was the only gay kid? What if they made fun of him because he was small? The little bird-like ginger boy tucked his arms closer to his body, gripping the strap of his bag a little tighter with his pale, slender fingers. He angled himself in front of the standing mirror by his door, sending himself a bashful smile. "You'll be okay," he whispered softly to himself. "No one has to know."
xxx"Elliot James! Get moving, that bus'll leave you if you're late!" He could hear pots and pans clattering together downstairs. A small smile curled his light-colored lips slightly, and he headed downstairs. "Honestly, Eli, do you really want to miss your first day of school?" His mother's tired smile and dusty brown bangs slipping from a bun and into her face made him uncomfortable, and he looked down at his shoes.
xxx"Sorry, Mom. Its just... Nobody moves to a school halfway through the year! I mean," he added quickly, looking up for a moment, "sure, in elementary school it's okay, but high school? Ninth grade? I'll get eaten alive!" A soft blush spread over his freckle-sprayed cheeks.

xxxFrom his mother, he only received a silent look.

xxxNeedless to say, he couldn't get his mom to last-minute home school him, so there he was, a bashful, short, all white-and-red boy in a school of tall, dark and handsomes. His skin was crawling and he felt sick, keeping to the walls and lockers and weaving in between the kids. His hair caused a few to glance over because it stood out against his dark hoodie, but overall, no one spoke to him. This was good.

xxxHonors English. He hovered at the back of the room for a moment before choosing a desk, unable to tell if there were assigned seats or not. It didn't seem like it. The late bell screamed suddenly, causing him to fly into a random seat in a panic. His gray eyes were wide and Ms. Elaine noticed as she waltzed into the room, waving around a large stack of papers. "Alright, class, first we've got a new student and then we'll start our next big project!"
xxxThere was a collected groan, and Elliot found himself sinking slowly down into his seat, praying she wouldn't call on him. But, to no avail. "Elliot James?" He looked up at her, scrunching up his brows hopefully. Maybe she'd get the hint that he didn't want to go up in front of the class? "Please, come up and introduce yourself."
xxxGod dammit. He stood, leaving his bag and quickly drifting to the front of the room to stand by the young teacher. His cheeks flushed a bright red, and he decided that he didn't like her much. "I go by EJ," he muttered to her quickly, having decided that a new school meant a new identity, "and I don't know what you want me to say."
xxxShe had a sickly sweet smile and his dislike grew. She touched his arm gently. "Why don't you tell us your age, where you're from and... Your favorite type of music?"
xxxWell, that was interesting. Teachers didn't usually care about music. He cleared his throat and stared at the back of the room, at the clock. He'd speak to the clock. "I'm EJ Todd and I just turned fifteen. I'm from Des Moines, Illinois, and my favorite band is Twenty One Pilots."
