juniper lived a troubled childhood, plagued by the fact that she never knew her parents. they passed away when she was three and her brother, constantine, never told her about them. juniper doesn't even know the surname she was born to, as her brother changed it when he began caring for her.
juniper grew up on the path to tomorrow, as her brother called it. the never stayed somewhere longer then a night, always moving on to the next place. they lived off of what they had in their bags and what they could find. though constantine never said it, she always learned to read between the lines and understood early on exactly what the rules were. no making friends, no talking to strangers, no causing trouble. of course, juniper never bothered to follow the latter. one way or another she would find some way to cause trouble.
when juniper was nine, constantine announced that he intended to join a monastery and become a monk. juniper thought of this idea as crazy, though she knew how stubborn her brother was. so she ran away and began to live on her own, and she thought of it as a rather fun life.

juniper was all alone in a dungeon on her thirteenth birthday. having been caught stealing, she had been imprisoned and spent nearly a week in the dungeon. when she was finally seen to decide what to do with her, an odd and rather unusual thing happened that gave her a shot.
during the meeting it was noticed that she had a watchful eye. she was smart, a fast thinker and a good liar who noticed almost everything. she was escorted into the courtyard to try her hand at the bow and, after a few shots, she caught on quickly and was deemed a natural. she was then given two options; die, or work as a royal archer.
once she had been officially recruited, she was taught to read and write. she had never been able to go to school and only knew the little her brother knew, though she also caught on quickly. she was thirteen though and had no interest in books or writing. she had taken quite a liking to learning to fight and never furthered her education.
when juniper was fourteen, she came across a boy she knew. handsome and older, she realized immediately that it was her brother. she learned that he was asked to leave the monastery after having sex and couldn't control her amusement. she then looked into getting him a job in the kingdom and he ended up becoming a knight. she, of course, avoids him like the black plague out of resentment for his refusal to speak to her about their parents.

he spent four years in the monastery. when constantine was seventeen and left to help prey over a dying boy, he found both the boy and his beautiful mourning sister. she persuaded him to have sex and he did so, though admitted it when he returned and he was asked to leave. constantine didn't argue and, guilt ridden, left for the road.
after one year abroad, he found his sister once more and was surprised to see that she had done good for herself. she had gotten a job working for a king and queen as an archer and had made quite the name for herself due to her temper.
juniper took him in and found him a job as a knight. he didn't enjoy killing and continued his vegetarian ways, though did learn to fight and tried to bring peace to the table. he proved that he was smart and skillful with strategy, he knew how to win and receive the least damage. his years with the monks taught him slight medical experience, though he doesn't know enough to be a doctor, only the basics. set a broken leg, stop bleeding, things of that sort.
