    Lightstar opened hois eyes and yawned,blinking agenst the bright sunlight. He shook away the thought of crawling back into his warm den,and padded across camp to the nursery,climbing up the smooth slope and into the thicket. Inside,His mate oakfur was Laying on her side,dozing in her nest.


    Oakfur stirred as her mate,Lightstar,padded in. She touched noses with him and he lay down beside her. "Its about time you go on patrol," Oakfur mewed. "Shouldn't you be outside?" Lightstar lay his head on her shoulder. "I'll go. But I'll be back to check on you,okay?" Oakfur let out a purr of amusement. "Take as long as you like."

    Lightstar stepped outside the nursery,and padded down the slope. He sniffed the air for his deputy.
