The vampire was gaining on her, and she knew it. If only she could make it to the street, these back alley shortcuts that she usually takes home from work now deemed unsafe.

    But she felt the cold arms wrap around her waist, and she knew that she could give her feet a break. She screamed as loud as she could, but a hand with sharp nails met her mouth and silenced her. "You're hard to catch..." it whispered in her ear, running it's fangs over the crook of her neck.[/fancypost]

    [shadow=white,left]SAM WINCHESTER[/shadow]

    Sam traipsed through the dark city streets with a long metallic machete in his hand. Rain poured down upon his being as he ducked into an alleyway. Dean had claimed that splitting up was a great idea, seeing as the two would cover more ground without each other and they had also just gotten finished arguing for the six-thousandth time. It was almost as if they were no longer brothers, but an old married couple.

    He re-gripped the machete a few times as he continued through the dark and flooding alley in search of vampires. Once he heard a sharp scream from a street over pierce through dark rainy night, he immediately switched directions. The scream sounded like it was quickly muffled and Sam took off like a rocket. Someone was in trouble and he was determined to get to the person before Dean.

    Rounding the corner and quickly throwing himself into the street, he was met with oncoming traffic and an old man within a beat up car honked furiously at him. Sam spun on his heel and threw his arms into the air at the man in the car in front of him apologetically. Something caught his eye, something that he would not have seen if he hadn't turned to the man in the car. Dean was sitting in a diner with a beer in hand, burger and fries before him and a pretty blonde girl sitting in the opposite side of his booth. Dean had been skeptic about this case since the moment they started it and their fight had been over this thing. He must have lied to Sam in order to get him off of his case, and that left Sam hunting these blood suckers alone; not that he wasn't capable of killing a few vampires on his own. Good God, Sam was going to kill Dean, if some sort of STD didn't capture his life first.

    Finally, he saw the damn creature with a brunette in its arms. "Hey freak!" Yes, that was the first semi-witty thing that had come to Sam's mind and he now realized why Dean was the one who threw explicit insults.

    [fancypost bgcolor=black; bordercolor=; borderwidth=0px; overflow: auto; width: 190px; height: 200px; opacity: 0.50; text-align: left]The thing turned and hissed at Sam, tightening its grip on the girl and backing away. "Now, I know you don't want any trouble here, especially with this pretty little thing at risk... So you best keep on going, Winchester." The name had a certain venom to its ring when the word rolled of his tongue. It wasn't hard to tell a Winchester apart from another hunter, especially with Sam being so popular because of the whole community of freaks and ghouls constantly talking about them. A monster could get one little whiff of Sam or Dean, and instantly know that it was one of them.

    Jael looked at the man with pleading eyes, her insides aching from the grip around her and her breath cut short from his hand on her mouth and partially on her nose. On top of the thin, cold air of the mountain town, she had been running for a long time, and now that she was caught and under the circumstances, breathing came especially difficult. [/fancypost]

    [shadow=white,left]SAM WINCHESTER[/shadow]

    Sam decided that it would be best to keep his distance from the vampire, so it wouldn't get any ideas of harming the poor girl. She seemed like a completely innocent civilian who was dragged into the supernatural world by force, which sounded an awful lot like his brother and himself.

    He walked to the side, getting no closer to the blood sucker but made an amused face. "Ah, so you've heard of my brother and I, and you're still taking victims? You've got guts." Sam asked taking a daring step closer and readjusting the steady grip he heald on the machete. He was still fuming about his brother ditching this case, and would make sure to make him feel awful for leaving him alone when there really was a vampire running rampant through the city with a hostage.

    It wasn't that Sam wasn't capable of hunting a vampire on his own, in fact he'd hunted much worse on his own many times before, but he was still upset with Dean. Obviously this monster wasn't smart, if he'd heard of the boys before, why was it still taking victims? Sam was going to enjoy slicing the head off of this thing's neck. He noticed the sharp breathing that she was doing and knew he'd have to act fast so she could rest. "I'm giving you one chance to let her go, or things are going to get bloody." He said making short-lived eye contact with Jael. It was a fleeting glimpse into the girl's eyes, but he hoped that it would tell her that things were going to be alright; that he would protect her. Afterall, he was a Winchester, and that meant he was devoted to saving lives and killing monsters. Hopefully, the vampire would let the girl go, but the chances of this confrontation ending without death were slim.

    Jael felt the thing tense up, groaning with frustration and pushing her to the man's feet. She landed on her stomach with a thud and a whimper, the wind knocked out of her and an undoubtedly sore middle. The vampire took off, leaving Jael at Sam's feet, cowering under him.

    The size difference between Sam and any average human was already pretty shocking, but Jael standing her tallest at five foot six, she was nearly a foot shorter. Plus being vulnerable and shook up, seeing the enormity of his body was frightening to her. Tears in her eyes were threatening to spill over as she brought herself onto her back, sitting up and leaning on her elbows, trying to regain her breath. Her wrists were dark with the strain of the monster, and she felt lightheaded and dazed. [/fancypost]

    Sam flinched when the vampire literally threw the girl to his feet and took off into another alley. Damn it. He thought as his body threatened to throw himself forward in pursuit of the vampire. He of course, had probably made the wrong decision by sticking with the girl, but something inside of his inner being wouldn't allow him to leave her all alone like this.

    He looked down to the girl with soft brown orbs and extended her a hand to help her back to her feet. "Are you alright?" He asked. He wanted to kick himself for asking that, only a second later had he realized that that question was fairly rhetorical. That vampire was probably going to go tell his fellow monsters that the Winchesters were in town, and he'd have himself stuck in a heap of trouble. He would need to get this girl to safety and retrieve Dean from one of his nightly escapades.

    She remained still, looking up at him curiously, glancing back between the machete and his offering hand. She didn't take it at first, a bit too shook up. Sure, he had saved her, but it didn't mean that he was any safer than the bloodsucker she encountered only seconds ago.

    She finally took his hand, her own almost like that of a toddler's compared to his, or so it seemed. But she brought herself up, nonetheless, and regained her balance, breath still slightly panicked and uneasy. She had to look up to meet his gaze, even still standing, and she felt like a small child who was staring up at an adult she didn't know. Saying nothing, she touched his forearm, bringing it out and extending it gently toward her. She ran her fingers across the machete, the blade cold and unforgivingly sharp. She kept one hand under his forearm to support it, the other, her left hand, curiously moving over the blade, almost as if she was petting a wolf, letting it get close and have the power to hurt her if it would, but trusting that it wouldn't if it were truly peaceful.

    She met his gaze again, no expression on her face, waiting for his response. Waiting for him to pull back or strike or do anything. Waiting. [/fancypost]

    When the girl looked from his hand to the machete still gripped and bloody in his other hand, he made a sour face. Quickly, he shoved the machete into a long holster at his side. He sometimes forgot that normal everyday people weren't exactly used to constantly having lethal weapons out in the open.

    All of the little mannerisms that she was performing before him made him give a slight swallow. She was probably in shock or merely traumatized for now, and would need a bit of consoling. "I'll take that as a no..." He said quietly trailing off. "Look, I am in no way, shape, or form going to bring any harm upon you. I promise!" He said a bit flatly. He was still upset at his brother, emotionally and physically drained and he just gave a rogue vampire the ability to run rampant freely through the streets.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; bordercolor=; borderwidth=0px; background:url(https://31.media.tumblr.com/11…ojc2R9Uw1rqfnefo5_500.gif); background-position: top; height: 190px; width: 350px;]

    [fancypost bgcolor=black; bordercolor=; borderwidth=0px; overflow: auto; width: 315px; height: 175px; opacity: 0.50; text-align: left] Jael just stood, keeping his gaze in hers. "What are you." A simple question. Not who, or rather why. But what.

    Now, this can be taken many different ways. What as a species, or perhaps how one perceives themselves. Orientation, personality, etcetera, etcetera.

    But no, she looked into his eyes, and saw how easily he could bring himself to threaten to kill, or maybe kill, that "man". And she asked what he was. Not a species, or profession. What are you?

    Something about him was driving her insane. Maybe his size or hair or the way he spoke. Maybe the way he rescued her so viciously, but was now already making her a promise. Maybe it was just how he presented himself. But whatever it was, it was driving her mad.

    Maybe she was overthinking it. Nothing, just the heat of the moment (no pun intended). She was just caught up in the fact that she was rescued by a handsome, young man with a machete, and that he was willing to take the time to make sure she was okay.

    That had to be it.

    Right?[/fancypost]

    [shadow=white,left]SAM WINCHESTER[/shadow]

    Sam cocked his head to the side a bit, almost like a confused dog. What was he? Human? Mortal? Hunter? Winchester? Which answer would appease her to the point of her understanding at least a little bit?

    "My name's Sam, Sam Winchester. I'm a hunter of all things supernatural, and that thing that just attacked you," he paused a moment to allow her to take all of that in for a moment before he proceeded. "It was a vampire, you know blood sucking annoying little things. But real vampires are nothing like those fake Twilight ones." He explained, almost praying to God that she understood what he was saying at that moment.

    He shifted slightly once he noticed the deep in thought look within her beautiful light eyes. "You probably think I'm some freak? I'm pretty used to it by now, and I do realize that taking all of this in can be a lot for normal people to process at first." He assured her warmly, which was quite the contrast to the original cold and threatening tone he'd used with the vampire.

    [ hah, i read 'heat of the moment' and just busted out laughing! ]

[fancypost bgcolor=black; bordercolor=; borderwidth=0px; overflow: auto; width: 315px; height: 175px; opacity: 0.50; text-align: left] "No." she answered with a tone that suggested his idea was preposterous. "I mean, I do think you're a freak. But I'm a freak, too." she told him openly. "But you're a hero. To me, at least. And when have you heard of any normal person being a hero? And no, Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker don't count as normal. They just pretend to be."

    She kept a brief silence, giving him a chance to speak, but then seizing it before herself when another thought came to mind. "I should be dead." Jael spoke. "I should be bled dry right now, crippled on the floor of some warehouse and slowly, withering away. But you didn't let it happen. And I couldn't see it, which is really strange because-" she stopped herself. Her eyes dilating at the choice of words she used, coming to a realization that he might have caught her last sentence. I couldn't see it, which is really strange because- Because what? Because I can always see what is going to happen before it does. But I couldn't and...and... And what?

    And he scares me.

    It wasn't a normal kind of fear. It was fear of the unknown, perhaps the most powerful human fear besides losing money or a job. Jael was near him, and he felt warm enough in his presence, but there was some sort of sinister quality about him. Something so very odd. And looking into his dark, hazel eyes, she saw a kind of emptiness. Not to mention the fact that he would so willingly, so easily end the life of the vampire, though it was evil. Some bad things would have to happen for you to get in the mindset that would cause you to look past the fact that it isn't human, though it may look so. Some dark, tragic things that could bring you to see past the human face, and stare straight into the sharp teeth and claws.

    And then she found herself drifting back to reality, standing before him like a child, mall in size and looking up at him, hoping that he didn't catch her slip up with words. Hoping.[/fancypost]

    Sam's demeanor completely changed once she called him a hero. The thought of him being a hero had crossed his mind once or twice before, mainly when he was growing up, but he sort of denied that fact now that he has grown up.

    "I'm just doing what is right, I can't just let people die on the streets at the hand of supernatural murderers." He said trailing off. "There aren't very many of us who do what we do, and the ones that exist try their hardest to save people." He said twitching his jaw to the side. "Because why?" He asked catching that last part of her sentence.

    "Will it come back?" Sam asked trying to think to himself as casually as he could. "Probably, and there probably will be others, which is why you should get out of here." He said rubbing the back of his neck. "No, no, why don't you come with me? Those vampires will either die, or they'll get their victim. In this case, we are the victims so stick with me and you'll be fairly safe."

    He shifted slightly and shoved a hand into his wet pockets. "I guarantee you that it has a family that needs to be fed, sort of like a human family but much more inhumane." He said with a little sigh. He checked the time on his drenched phone and shoved it back into his pocket a bit angrily. "I'm sure I could take them on my own, if I had to, but there's a few other people - er, beings - that would be willing to help me take care of the nest of vamps."
