Four thousand years ago, when our "great kingdom" was being rebuilt from the ashes of the greatest war ever fought, there was no time for things like "justice" or "peace". There was only strength and the will to do what it took to survive.
But when generals, war heroes, and soldiers tried to bring order and prosperity, each with his own method, another war almost broke out. A young dragon rose from the people to prevent that from happening.
With the support of his people, this young dragon stopped the fighting and branded the warriors as traitors, murderers, and thieves and banished them to a lifeless desert to die.
With the "traitors" disposed of, the young dragon built a mighty and peaceful kingdom and became its first emperor. He decided that exile was the best way to punish criminals and began the practice of banishing any dragon convicted of a crime to the desert. Any convicted dragon who attempted to leave the desert was killed on sight.
The new emperor believed the criminals had died in the desert and that he had freed his kingdom of crime.
But he was dead wrong.
Many dragons in the desert quickly came to the realization that, if they were to survive, they would need each other's help. They banded together, many of them raising families. As the families banded together and intermingled, tribes were formed, and as the tribes merged and made alliances, clans were established.
Within two thousand years, these convicted criminals created their own civilization of clans that wandered the desert. Vital resources like hunting grounds and watering holes were discovered and fought over. But the wise leaders of the four clans foresaw what would happen if the fighting continued and chose from among themselves a High Chief of Clans that would have authority over all four clans.
This High Chief was tasked with the job of arranging a yearly tournament in which young warriors from each clan would fight to prove which was the strongest. The winning warrior's clan gained access to the best watering hole and hunting grounds.
This is how, over the course of four thousand years, the four "condemned clans" forged a prosperous, warlike society in the harsh desert stone.
And now, these clans gather for the final tournament to decide which clan will lead the charge to take back the lands of their ancestors.

Clans:
Dar'ijaat(A dark and powerful clan whose members take pride in making their enemies suffer needlessly long and painful deaths.)
Dral'droten(A mighty, merciful clan mostly consisting of earth dragons. Their main focus is in creating things rather than destroying them. Most members of this clan see it as a chance to redeem themselves and start a new life. It is also the largest clan)
Aliit'ijaat Cuun(The smallest of the four, this clan stresses honor and revolves around family. Despite its size, all the dragons of other clans know better than to pick a fight with them, especially not the females.)
Akay'gol(The name of this clan means Until Blood. Most members long for battle and thirst for bloodshed, seeing it as the only way to prove anything. They are savage warriors and are feared even by the Dar'ijaat.)
