Injured and Al{o}ne

Secret sniffed the air. There was a faint dog smell.....but they must have left a few minutes ago at least. She cautiously padded forward, paws crunching in the snow; there was no way around that noise, she thought bitterly. She was good at stealth, could move around without her prey even knowing. She prided herself on that. It was one of the advantages of growing up alone. You learned how to protect yourself....if you lived that long. The wind picked up slightly, bringing the metallic scent of blood. Blood? Wait..... stupid flea-pelt dogs probably decided to chase something. Smelt like they succeeded. She shook her head in disgust. Nasty things, dogs.... She hesitated, then followed the scent, wondering if the animal was still alive. She stopped short when she saw it. It was...a pile of white feather...bloody. It was still breathing.... When she had the last thought she hurried towards it. When she drew closer she saw it was a white owl! It must be really injured if it is just collapsed on the ground. She stopped short a few paces, being sure to stand in front of it so she didn't startle it. It was the same color of her fur, which helped her blend in here. The one good purpose for snow. She blinked, her green eyes studying the owl. "Are you ok?" she asked, already knowing the answer. Thoughts rushed through her head. If she could get it back to her den, her herbs were there and she could most likely heal it.

Secret shook her head. Yeah sure. A flesh wound! The cat probably hought she was stupid. She padded forward, sniffing the wound carefully. "Im going to take you somewhere warm. When we get there i can look at your wound. Ok?" she asked, already thinking of which hens to use

Secret thought a moment, then rushed off. She quickly made a contraption to carry the owl. She fastened it on her back and went back to the owl. She grunted, managing to get the owl on somehow. She set off at a fast walk, stretching her legs so she took longer strides that were softer. Soon he spotted her den and went towards the rock hiding the doorway. Se shoved it aside and padded inside, ducking so the owl wouldn't hit the ceiling and fall off. As she sealed it behind her, he immediately felt the warmth of the fire she always had going in winter. She padded over to a moss bed and slid the owl onto it, unfastening the contraption and tossing it into the fire

Secret nodded. "Yeah. It was difficult at first but I figured out a way to get sunlight through the roof and how to intensify it so if formed a spark. It soon turned into a flame. I keep it going as much as possible. It's harder to start than keep going. I have everything I need here. Water, moss, even food in one of the smaller caves on the side. But I only eat those as a last resort." she babbled, trying to keep him awake as she made a poultice. She took if over, getting a mossball to gently wash some of the blood off of the wound as she talked. When it was as clean as she could get it, she applied the medicine. "Can you guys eat plants?" she asked, binding the wound with cobwebs. "I have something for pain but it's a plant. You can do that or I can put in a mouse that you can eat. Just an idea."

Secret nodded. "Ok. What I'm giving you is Dandelion. It kinda acts sorta as a pain reliever. Tell me if it works," she said with a quirky smile.

Secret smiled. "You're just saying that aren't you?" she laughed. She turned back to the fire, going around it to a wall with wood stacked all around it. She grabbed a few and tossed them onto the pile, waiting until the caught to put more on. "I hollowed this den out when I found it. The small part where I'm standing and the smaller branch over here was all that was here. I managed to dig out several feet, along with higher places for dens and stuff. I got up on those and built up the roof. Lastly I put the rock in front of the entrance to keep out unwanted animals. Comes in handy in storms too. In the spring and summer I always immediately go out and start collecting herbs, wood, moss, anything. There is a stream in the corner here that I'm going to expand once it gets warmer. I'm also working on planting flowers in here. Brighten it up. Hey you hungry?"

"I'm Secret," the white shecat called over her shoulder, padding into the tunnel off to the side. She quickly returned with a plump mouse. She set it beside the owl. "Nice to meet you. Though not under the circumstances.... What did you do to those dogs?"

Secret snorted. "I'll say. They can't be quiet to save their lives either. Stupid mutts." she muttered. She peered into the owls eyes. "I'm not trying to be creepy. I'm trying to see if your pupils are their normal size yet so you can sleep."

Secret laughed, shaking her head. "Thanks. Ok, you feel ok? If you do I think you can fall asleep if you want."

Secret stepped back to the fire, smiling and shaking her head. She fed the fire a little more and went to her own nest, quickly falling asleep.
