And the former loner never got used to sleeping in a cave where everyone was so close together. So he made his den outside the entrance of camp. He would be able to guard his Clan while feeling the comfort of the sky above him that way.




    Now the mottled male was scouting the area. He had some scrapes and scratches from the rough terrain after a few misplaced paws, but he would cope; most of the damage was protected by his thick coat anyways.




    Movement caught his eye. He spotted a mountain goat a ways up the slope. It was delicately grazing what little grass was found. The thing looked harmless aside from its giant curling horns. He decided it would be a good catch. Finally. Food for a wolf.

    At the moment, the leader was walking around in his own canine body, slightly pointed ears pricking as he heard the sound of movement outside of the cave. Getting up, the leader wriggled his black nose, following the scent of the wolf, curious as to where he was going.
    Upon seeing the goat, Onestar froze. He wouldn't want to miss the chance for prey, and it seemed as though Chess had it covered.

He pointed his muzzle for his companion to go right.

    Nodding silently to himself, Onestar quietly pad to the right, watching Chester and the goat, sinking down low and abruptly stopping as the hooved creature stopped for a moment, then continued to eat.
    Flicking his tail in relief, the leader waited for another signal.
    It had been so long since he had taken them.

    As soon as he saw the look, the Canadian Eskimo shot out from where he was, heading straight for the goat, who, when looked up, paused for a moment to realize what was going on, then turned around, blindly heading straight for Chester.

As he took a horn to the flank, the mottled wolf let out a gasp of breath. The animal was only free for a heartbeat before he was back on it. Chester bit and snarled and rolled as he tried for a killing bite. He had the goat secure for a moment.




    Then the ground gave way below him.

    He was blind here. His paw steps echoed around to deafen any other possible sound. And he could only smell the aroma of damp stone. It seemed this place flooded often, which meant there was a way for rain or a water source to get in. Chester moved quickly as he allowed the cave walls to guide him. The weight of his prey rested in his jaws, making his neck ache.
