Spark heard voices. She opend her eyes slightly. Everything was blurred. She saw shapes...
Fray twitched her ear at the tiny voices, but other than that ignored them and kept working on patching Spark's wound, smirking slyly when she realized they were messing with Loki.
"He probably didn't," he whispered, hoping the fox wouldn't hear them. This time, he pushed a little harder on the fox's back.... another time, he pushed harder. The kit finally got to the point where he stepped back and rammed into his backside, sending the kit bowling over into the shadows when he bounced off. "That is one strong fox! Either he doesn't feel it, or he's too focused on the injured one. Let's try getting her attention," he suggested, flicking his tail in the direction of the bleeding one. The kit silently slunk around the group, approaching her from behind. He did the same thing he did with the fox: tapped her lightly on her back to get her to notice and flinched backward after.
Loki, who had fallen into a light sleep as he waited for Fray, felt something ram into him. He sniffed and went back to sleep. Suddenly jolted awake once he realized that the fox cubs were poking Spark. "Hey!" he snapped. "Don't do that!"
Spark felt the cub, and heard loki's voice. "Don't...fight..." She mummers, the shapes were less blurry now and she could make out the foxes. She tried sitting up...
The vixen cub flinched when Loki snapped at her Moshe started whimpering. " sorry, we just wanted to...to..." She started crying. "We just wanted to have someone to talk to, since our families left..."
Fray snapped out of her trance and noticed the cubs were poking at Spark. "Please don't touch her. She's injured and doesn't need to be bothered by you two!" She turned back to Spark, nudging her till she was in a laying position again. "Take it easy, Spark... no need to sit up... just lay down..." she whispered gently.
The black cub flattened his ears and stopped poking at the vixen, turning around to face the fox. "Sorry, sir. We just wanted someone to talk to. Our families disappeared one day, and we haven't talked to anyone but each other since. We tried to get your attention...but..." he shook his head, "Anyway, I'm Cheshire, and this is my friend." Cheshire let a small tear trickle down his jet black cheek. "We didn't mean to anger you, sir."
The vixen bowed her head, "and I'm silverwind. When our families left there were four of us, but one disappeared oneday, and the other became ill." Silverwind backed up, but looked at spark more closely. She reared up when she realized who it was. "Chesire, isn't this the vixen that was still here but then disappeared?"
Spark didn't listen, she sat up, the images were almost clear now, she didn't hear the two cubs, but recognized them. "C-Cheshire, and silverwind? I thought you two left..."
Fray looked at the two, a puzzled look on her face. "Spark was never here! If she was, she would've told Loki and me," she snapped at them, confident she had told her everything.
Cheshire studied the vixen carefully. "It looks a lot like her, I think.... I don't really remember, Silverwind. That was a long time ago," he yipped, amber eyes still trained on her. "If she is, she's DEFINITELY not well enough to tell about it! You all don't know how to heal a vixen, do you?" he snapped, trotting over to grab some moss and cobwebs. "And I think it might be her since she can recognize us."
Loki tilted his head at the fox cubs. "What do you mean?" he asked. "Why would Spark have been here?"
Spark shook her head. "This.. Is where my family lived. In this area. That cub, silverwind , I beleive is my aunts cub. Have you two seen my brother? He is the one that's sick." Spark asked them.
Silverwind shook her head. "No, I haven't seen him, how about you, Cheshire?" The cub nudged her friend.
Fray shot a shocked look at Spark. "I thought you told us everything," she barked distrustfully at her, half understanding why she didn't. She shook her head slowly and grabbed the moss Cheshire offered to her, carefully placing it on Spark's bleeding forehead and sticking it down with the cobwebs.
Cheshire thought about it. "I think I might've seen him... I don't know for sure, but the fox you all are looking for might be my dad. I don't remember his name; he traveled over to that lake over there a long time ago and never came back. He left without saying goodbye..." he explained, a depressed tone in his voice. Cheshire looked up and studied the injured vixen carefully. "But before he left, he told me all about his family. Something about his sister named Spark.... That wouldn't be you would it?"
Spark looked at fray, "I did, I said my family lived near crystal lake, and that one day they all left, leaving me, my brother and cousin, apparently Cheshire there, alone. And then he got possessed and I traveled to get this crystal. Now, let's go find my brother." Spark mutterd ancient words into the crystal, it glowed and her forehead stopped bleeding, then she stood up.
Fray shrugged, "I guess I didn't remember," she muttered, staring at the glowing crystal. "Is it supposed to do that?" She whispered, watching as Spark's bleeding stopped. She sniffed at the spot where the bleeding was, scenting no blood at all, and sat down, waiting to travel further to Crystal Lake.
Cheshire payed no attention to the crystal, acting like it was a normal thing, considering his father was possessed. He stood up, looking between his aunt and the other vixen with beseeching eyes, silently hoping one of them would care for him. "Do I know you? You haven't been around here for what I know. Now I recognize Fray from her snappy attitude towards us, but I don't think I've seen you," he yipped, turning to the melanistic fox beside him, sizing him up in case he would trouble his family.
"No, we've never met," Loki told him. "I'm Loki. I've been traveling with Spark and Fray for a little while."
"He has, and he's been a good friend along the way, helping us with anything. And I'm not snappy, I'm just not that comfortable around cubs..." She barked at Cheshire, an embarrassed look in her eyes.
Cheshire nodded. "It's good to know you've been a good fox towards my family and friend. But if you try to turn your back on them, so help me, Silverwind and I will...!" The young fox growled at him, stopping when he felt the stares of Fray, Spark, and Silverwind resting on him. "I-I mean, you better be nice to them," he finished, crawling back slowly to the shadows.
"Don't mind Chesh, he just gets worked up. After all, Spark is pretty much his last piece of family left that is close to him, and he doesn't want to lose anymore family. I feel sorry for him, but I hide it," Fray whispered in Loki's ear, twitching her tail towards the pair of seemingly burning amber eyes glowing in the shadows.
Loki nodded. "I understand," he told Fray. He turned back to Cheshire. "You don't have to worry, I won't harm Spark, Fray, or Silverwind. Or you."
Fray smiled and looked at the feisty cub, a empathetic look on her face. "He's not going to hurt anyone; calm down," she yipped, standing and getting ready for more traveling.
Cheshire nodded briefly to Loki and looked at Spark. "Well, are we going or not? Someone's life is in danger, if I remember correctly!" he barked, dashing off in the direction of the lake.
Loki snorted in amusement. "Yes, we're going." he ran after Cheshire.
Spark and silver wind ran after them
"Hey! Don't forget about me!" Fray yipped as she sprinted after them, keeping an eye on the cubs, ready to protect them at any moment. As they neared the lake, she saw just how big it was. She gave a little gasp at the sight of it. "It looks like an ocean full of twinkling stars..... A lake of crystals.." she whispered in awe, staring down at the lake.
Cheshire charged forward and launched upwards, doing a double twist mid-leap, and splashing down in the water. "Come on! This is what I used to do all the time! Try it!" He giggled, half-heartedly hoping they would do it. Cheshire shook his dark pelt and waded further into the shining lake, lifting off the bottom and starting to swim.
Esilverwind jumped in too. Spark hesitated.
