Slowly, Ash fell back asleep, feeling completely guilty about it but unable to stop himself.
-
Dusk kicked a rock into the river ,watching it splash into the water.
-
In his sleep, the nightmares came back, dreams of the pain and death that he had witnessed, except now it was always himself and Dusk, being hurt and killed over and over again. He woke up screaming.
-
Dusk heard the scream coming from the building she left. She slowly walked back to the building and waited.
-
Ash sat up in the hospital bed, shivering, trying to erase the nightmare from his mind.
-
Dusk bit her lip and walked in the room Ash was in.
-
He looked over at her, eyes wide, but said nothing, his trembling slowly beginning to stop.
-
Dusk walked over to him and hugged him. "I'm sorry…" She whispered.
-
He shook his head. "It's not your fault. I had a bad dream."
-
"About what?" She asked him softly.
-
He shuddered. "We were both there...and all the things, all the pain and hurt hat I have taken from people, all that was being inflicted upon the both of us. You died, I remember that clearly. I was about to die when I woke up."
-
Her shut her eyes and hugged him. "Well I'm here now." She said.
-
Ash rested his head on her shoulder. "I- I know."
-
"Ash…I have to tell you something." She said.
-
"What is it?" His eyes were half-closed, and his shuddering had stopped.
-
"I kinda like you…" She said to him.
-
He smiled. "I- I like you, too. At least, I think I do...but it feels strange, having feelings and such, and liking things on my own. I'm so used to not really being anybody, just being there to take pain. It feels nice to sort of he my own person, and you've helped me realize that."
-
Dusk smiled and kissed his cheek.
-
He could feel his face heating up and knew that he was blushing, but did not look away.
