    The tortoiseshell tomcat yawned and stretched his hind legs behind him. He stepped lightly out of the apprentice den and into the camp. His paws left dents engraved into the white layer. Small snowflakes drifted down to earth.




    Condorpaw walked around the edge of the camp where the layer of snow was the thinnest and the air was the warmest. A thick layer of fog rested on the horizon of the early morning. Condorpaw poked his head into the medicine cat den and couldn't help a smile. The striking scent of herbs were very strong and he twitched his nose; he could never be a medicine cat. They have to sleep in here! His whiskers quivered at the thought of it and waited for the arrival of his sister from the back where they slept.
