So this is a school project that I'm still working on. When everyone's done with their story, we're going to a school to read it to some little kids, but we don't know what grade yet. Either way, they are going to be in 1-3 grade.
I'm excited and tell me what you think! Only track and PM me to give me some feedback!
Black birds fluttered out of the tree tops as a large shadow cast over them. Branches swayed from side to side as a vividly colored dragon perched herself upon a tall tree. She folded her multicolored wings and shifted her feet on the thick branch beneath her. She scanned the forest around her that seemed to never end. Her stomach growled for food. With a sigh, the dragon unfolded her wings and stretched them out to her sides. The trees below her swayed as she flapped her wings up and down until she floated into the air. She stayed in mid-air for a few moments before taking off over the forest in search of food.
"Hold on, hold on" Saskia grumbled to her stomach. She watched the forest floor as she skimmed the treetops. "Ah-ha," she whispered to herself in delight. Saskia dove down and landed on a grassy clearing in the forest. She trotted over to a small bush covered in bright blue and yellow berries. She picked a handful of the berries and popped a few in her mouth. "Ah, Aldenberries, the best berries in Fire Breath," she said, her voice muffles by the berries that she had stuffed into her mouth.
After she finished her meal of Aldenberries, Saskia searched the area around where she had found the berry bush. It was not long after she had started wandering that she noticed that she had never been in this part of Fire Breath Island. Not a split second after noticing this, Saskia realized that she was lost.
Saskia striped to backtrack back to the Aldenberry bush, but ended up even more lost every time she tried. She finally stopped and rested under a large tree. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she heard a voice call down to her.
"Are you lost?" The small, high-pitched voice awakened Saskia from her sleep trance. She sat up and looked into the tree above her to find a small baby squirrel.
"Well, a little bit..." Saskia murmured as her voice trailed off. "But I can find my way home," she continued continued confidently.
"Are you sure? Because I have a map in my tree," the small squirrel offered. She held her tail in her tiny paws. She shifted her feet on the thin branch that supported her as she looked at Saskia with big brown eyes.
"I'm fine, but thank for offering," Saskia smiled warmly as she said this. She began to walk off into the forest again.
"Okay, bye!" the small squirrel called to Saskia as she waved a dainty paw.
Saskia continued wandering the unfamiliar forest in search for home. The sky was beginning to grow darker and Saskia became sleepier. Her legs were sore and started to slow her pace. She decided to stop underneath a tall tree and lay down. She soon fell asleep.
The hot summer sun woke Saskia as soon as it hit her. She sat up, stretching her stiff wings to their full extent. She stood, still in a sleepy haze. She stuck her snout in the air and sniffed. Her head turned to her right, that was where her breakfast would be found. Saskia stood and head towards the smell of a Frapple tree.
When Saskia arrived at the Frapple tree, wh flew up above it. She hovered about an inch above it and beat her wings as hard as she could. The tree shuddered, causing many Frapples to fall from the tree. She flew back onto the ground and collected a few of the fallen fruits. In one bite, Saskia bit half of the Frapple off. She then finished then finished the rest of the dark red fruit.
When Saskia bent her head to get the last Frapple, she noticed that a large chunk of it had been bitten out of it. She looked up into the Frapple tree to find a large Midnight bird. The bird preened its feathers that were so black that they were blue. It looked down at her with small golden eyes.
"You took fruit from my tree," he squacked. He pecked at the chunk of Frapple that he had taken from her piece of fruit.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that-" Saskia began before being cut off by the bird before she could finish her sentence.
"I don't care, I'd just prefer if you were to ask me first," the bird said, obviously caring more than he said he did. "Are you far from?" The bird's golden eyes became more intense as he asked Saskia this. Saskia's eyes were filled with confusion. Why is everyone asking me this? she wondered silently. Do I look lost? I hope not...
"No, why do you ask?" she replied to the Midnight bird. Saskia's tail curled into a tight spiral and she shuffled her feet. She didn't like to lie, but she didn't want to look like a lost liar.
