    Shadow's hand tightened around Maria's and he seemed to calm down somewhat.


    He was about to answer Amy, but hesitated. It really wasn't Eclipse's fault this was happening.


    It was his.


    An ambulance blared outside and he stiffened.

    Shadow couldn't answer. He bowed his head in shame.


    The first medics burst in, five, with more crowding in behind. The first, a newbie, stumbled back into the others with a gasp, pointing at Shadow with a shaking figure. "I-It's S-Shadow the H-Hedgehog!!"


    "I see what happened..." an older medic grunted. They watched Shadow with wary eyes.


    Shadow let go of Maria's hand and turned to the medics, his eyes wide. He blinked, suddenly seeing them as the government officials... no, they were the medics.


    "Stand down, convict," a third medic commanded.


    Shadow didn't move out of the way. He looked at Maria.


    The medics were whispering to themselves. Then one took out a blowgun and shot Shadow with it.


    Shadow flinched and looked down at the dart in his chest, then at the medics, terrified. He clenched his fists and ran forward to attack. All the medics gasped and leaned backwards in a panic, but Shadow only took about three steps before he couldn't move anymore. He stood frozen, grimacing, fighting the contents of the dart that were working to make him unconscious. "No... not again..." he kept muttering. "Can't let this happen again." He stepped forward again.


    The medics shot him again, in the left shoulder.


    Shadow winced and shouted at them violently, wordlessly, the rage overcoming him. All he saw was what he'd seen over fifty years ago on Space Colony Ark. Tears slipped down his face, then he finally collapsed, unconscious.


    The medics shot him an extra time for good measure, then rushed over to Maria. The newbie stayed behind, standing a safe distance away from Shadow, watching him carefully.

    "What do you mean? This monster right here--" the newbie uncertainly nudged Shadow with his foot --"he did that." He gestured at Maria, swarmed by the other four medics. "And a lot more horrible things. The prison will probably donate a whole bunch to the hospital for snagging him. And OH MY GOODNESS, that was the SCARIEST THING I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED in my WHOLE LIFE! All the horror stories I've heard of Shadow the Hedgehog -- I have nightmares!" The newbie stared at Amy with wide eyes. "Hey, have I seen you somewhere?"

    He whistled. "Well, from what I've heard..." He shook his head. "I'm not surprised he did this at all! How could anyone even like such a monster!?" He clicked his tongue dubiously.

    "Whaat! Sonic is, like, his arch-nemesis!" He paused, darkening a little. "Oh, all sorts of terrible things. He was never meant to be created. The evil Dr. Eggman's nuthouse old grandfather Dr. Robotnik illegally created him on the Space Colony Ark some fifty years ago, way before I was born. They sent the government to get rid of Shadow when they found out, since Shadow could totally blow up a planet if he tried. Shadow fought and hurt, even killed a couple of the government men. They managed to get him on lockdown. I dunno why they didn't just destroy him. I think maybe they recruited him at some point, cuz he wound up with G.U.N agencies, killing hundreds for the agency. A long time ago it was a secret, but a boatload of people know now, it isn't a secret anymore. Then he wound up in Dr. Eggman's dastardly hands and he wreaked even more havoc, hurting lots of people and property." He sighed.

    "Well, why did he fight them? I doubt he has a killer nature...besides, why would he hold the hand of the person he tried to kill," Amy wondered. "Murderers normally don't have feelings towards their victims." The pink hedgehog felt as if she were overflowing with curiosity.

    Amy frowned, not amused. "If you'll excuse me, I have to see if my best friend is going to survive whatever happened. We'll settle this all later." She stalked out the door. A moment later she reappeared, shoving a card in his hands. "And don't forget to call!" she then hurried out of the house.

    He smiled.


    "You talk too much, Alfred. Made her run," one of the doctors called at him, amused.


    "I do not," he objected immediately, looking down at the card. His eyes widened.

    Ivy just glared at the medics while clutching her katana. "The person who hurt her already left, it isn't Shadow."
