Cal faintly smiled and looked at his scarred hands. "It's a long story."

"Well, over the next months is a long time to tell it to me whenever you want."
-
He looked over at her and smiled. "What about you farmer girl, any secrets worth my time?" Cal said winking at her.
-
"Way too many." she looked at the time on her phone. "We should be heading back now. Or we face the wrath of my mum again!"
-
Cal smiled at her transition and followed Ally.
-
When they got back, Ally untacked Alfie, brushed him down and tucked him up in his stable for the cold night.
She mucked both him and Puffin out. -
Cal put Holes in the field with her pink blanket and watched her run. She was acting like a reckless filly.
-
Ally went to the little kitchen area in the tackroom and started to make hot chocolate.
"Want anything?" she asked Cal. -
"Coffee please, black." Cal called out, putting his tack away. He looked at his phone for a second but then out it away.
-
Ally made it for him and sat down at the little round table, taking her riding hat off.
-
Cal sat with her and drank the coffee. He looked at the ground awkwardly.
-
Ally took a sip of her hot chocolate and looked around the room helplessly.
Eventually she said, "So, have you left school already?" -
"I finished high school, if that's what you mean. Then yeah." Cal said smiling at her. "You?"
-
"I'm only sixteen, so another year. Can't wait to get out of there."
-
Cal smiled. "It'll get easier." He finished his coffee and looked around bored.
-
"Yeah. Well, I haven't cleaned Puffin's tack in months, so I'd better do that."
she smiled, got up and took her bridle down from its hook. She put 'counting stars' on softly in the background and hummed along to it. -
'There is literally nothing to do around here.' Cal thought. He walked out and decided to bug Ally. "Allyyyyyyy I'm boreeeeeeed!" Cal whined.
-
"Well," she joked. "You could go home."
"Entertain yourself. Go out for a walk or something while I finish this." she smiled. -
"But that's all boring!" Cal pouted. He nearly flopped on the floor like a child giving a tantrum.
-
"Well, if you really want something to do... race you down to the river!"
Ally leapt up, knocking her chair over in the process, and legged it to the first field. The river was at the bottom, sparkling blue. She ran, laughing.
