Ripplepaw swam through the river. She was enjoying a nice break of training. Her ears pricked as a growling could be heard. A log drifted towards her. Ripplepaw shook her head. Logs couldn't growl. Her eyes widened as the log came out of the water a bit more, revealing a crocodile. She panicked and swam as fast as she could towards shore, the croc not far behind.

The head river guard stopped mid sentence. Had that been a growl? Certainly not a cat nor badger. Pricking his ears, the tom raised his head higher, only to see a gator swimming after a smaller bundle of fur. "Shit!", he cursed and darted off after her.

"Mouse-dung...!" Rainsong wasn't exactly 'licensed' as a river guard; she had tried out like others, and after that doubted she had impressed Shimmeringlanturn enough. That didn't stop her from her passion though; the spotted tabby taking her time to swim every day and to practice - determined to make try-outs next time.
That's why she wound up cursing when she heard the yowl of pain. Teal eyes opened wide and Rainsong was moving fast in the water in realization of the trouble. How had she missed that?! Swearing under her breath the she-cat hurried towards the scene, catching the bobbing head of Oystercracker as she moved in. Well, if he was coming too or not, it would take more than one cat to pry another from that beast!
Using her tail to help propel her forward the she-cat let out a hiss, claws unsheathed in the water as she came up. She could see the monster's teeth around the she-cat's tail, and the tabby growled. Hopefully Ripplepaw would still be able to have her tail saved... but for now she was focused on scratching at the weird bumpy skin she could get. It hurt her too, but if she could get the animal to let go of the apprentice, the better chance they could get out of here!

The croc growled at Rainsong and lashed out with its claws. Ripplepaw tried yanking her tail out as the croc pulled her down .

He could try but there was a good chance he would most likely either end up mortally wounded, or dead. He pushed himself through the water, giving one final look to the other cat before he dove down into the water, going below the surface and after the other.

Help him? Well of course, what did he think she was trying to do? The bengal mix had just managed to get out of the croc's claws, eyes wide when another apprentice got himself in the mix. Taking a deep breath of air the she-cat plunged herself under the surface. The beast may be moving fast through the water, but claws held on with determination as it moved past, catching and hooking onto the monsters side. She was practically being dragged along with it, but at least she'd be there when the darn thing slowed down enough for her to actually move too!

The croc ignored the bengal and dived deeper into the water. Ripplepaw's lungs were screaming for air. The croc finally stopped at a large cave. It crawled into it. There was air here. Ripplepaw took a deep breath, relieved for air.

He grabbed the she-cats scruff and hauled her away from the fray before leaping back into the water. "Go for the eyes! We have no hope if we just try to rip it's skin! It's too scaly. The eyes are the only hope we have!" the young tom shrieked, churning his paws against the strong current. He arrived at the crocks nose, and with startling strength and speed, tore at the beast's eye, praying it would blind it. At least for a while.
