• Alicia jogged briskly into the stable, careful not to spoke the horses. As she pasted Apollo's stall, he gave a slight whinny. The 18-year old halted by one of the stable horse's stall, dropping a carrot into the feed bin.

Hanging up her bridle, Alicia stepped into the stall with a large, heavy saddle in her arms. She approached a large bay gelding. "Mornin' Junebug!' She said cheerfully. She calmly placed the saddle of the geldings back, tightening the girth. Junebug pawed at the ground, annoyed by his girth. Quickly the rider attached the bridle, buckling up the throat latch and nose band. After adjusting her stirrups, she led Junebug out of his stall and into the hall.

Once in the out door arena, she mounted her horse. Giving him a brisk pat on the neck, she gave Junebug a little squeeze with her legs. He walked forward with a steady, energized gait.

Ic;; Alex walked along the aisle, heading towards the tack room. She had the day planned out, first she would exercise Fire, then turn him out before she had to go to work. After work, she would go to her apartment and then come back to the barn around 3:30pm and bring in Fire and groom him. Then she would feed him and go home. That on her mind, she gathered up her saddle, pad, girth, martingale, a few brushes, bridle, gloves, helmet, crop and sport boots. Coming back to her gelding's stall, she tied him up with the lead rope that was always on his stall door. She groomed him all around, thoroughly separating the buckskin hairs from the dirt that lay on them. Then she tacked up, putting everything perfectly into place. After slipping on her helmet and gloves, she put on the bridle and grabbing her crop, led the gelding out from his stall and towards the outdoor arena. Noticing someone was already in it, she turned away, heading towards a trail. (?)[/glow]

Ic~ Giving Junebug a little kick, Alicia tightend her reins as Junebug gaited into a light trot. Turning a circle, she worked her way around the arena, taking big wide circles to keep her horse on task.

Kicking the gelding behind the girth, the rider asked for canter. Obeying, Junebug hopped into an unbalanced canter, leading on his wrong leg.

  • Ellie Mae Kirkwood arrived at the stables and walked in, seeing Honey Bunny was already tacked up and was waiting for her. She took the mare out to the yard and got on, smiling. Work was for grooms, for losers. She walked the mare into the arena.

    Paris Valentine

The day was already starting out pretty good. Paris had downed her morning Coke swiftly (it was her substitute for coffee since the bitter drink had never been her taste) and after changing into a pair of work jeans and her usual muddy boots she had headed toward the barn. The owners of Bear Hill Stables had allowed Paris to stay at the farmhouse since her grandfather’s ranch was a bit too far away to consider driving to the barn every morning. Once outside, it was a relief to feel the spring air nipping at her cheeks and the warm smell of horses and hay to float into her nose.

Soon enough Paris was leading her bay gelding out of his stall and walking him toward the gelding pasture. She’d decided she would clean out his stall while letting him get some grazing time in before exercising him for a bit. The owners of the stables had also asked her to exercise the remaining school horses that weren’t being used at the moment, just so that they would remember all their training and to keep them in line. Eventually Paris was left a bit sweaty from mucking out her horse’s stall and tossing some more straw onto the dirt. She hadn’t been able to clean it the past couple of days and with leaving Com in his stall all night for the past days it had gotten rather dirty.

Slinging the pitchfork onto the pile of manure and dirty straw bedding, Paris began to hull the wheelbarrow to the ‘poop pile’. A sigh left her lips as she dumped the dirty stuff out and then put the wheelbarrow back into its respectful place. Deciding to spend just a moment to sit down, Paris settled herself atop the trunk that sat beside Com’s stall.

OOC: StormCloud4Ever: please look at Junebug's information on the 'horses' page on the sign-up thread. Junebug is a mare and it says she has excellent experience so she is actually rather good at what she does. (: Just a note that I would like the keep the school horses how I have described them. Thank you!

The day was going pretty good, the weather was nice and it was sunny, a perfect spring day. A lot of people would be thinking about training, but I thought about trail riding, I liked to relax and have fun, not train, train, train.
As I walked swiftly down to the stable, I stopped to watch all the business go on down there, the sweet smell of hay and horsehair drifting up to me. I sighed and took a deep breath as sunshine joined the mixture. Reaching the stable, I walk in to be greeted by a chorus of whinnies, my eyes quickly adjusted to the light of the stable, and one particular head stayed poked out, bobbing happily. Walking over, I rubbed Pale Moonlight(I call her Luna)'s creamy white forehead, watching her ears flick back-and-forth, as they always do. I chuckle and slip her a peppermint to keep her busy as I gently and quickly slide her halter onto her head. I clipped the lead rope on with a quiet snap and slide open her stall door. After leading her out, I clip her to the cross-ties and go into the tack room. I heft her large English saddle onto my arms, balancing it while I grab her pad and bridle. The pad slips to the floor and I have to drop it all and grab it before continuing back to Luna. After setting that down, I fetch her grooming box. I swiftly curry her down, then pull the dandy brush from the box. I slowly caress her smooth, creamy colored coat with the brush, sweeping all of the dirt off her coat before checking her hooves and legs. Then, I gently place the saddle pad on her back, then the saddle, it resting in perfect position on her back. Then I hold her still as I remove her halter and stick the bit in her mouth, then push the rest of the simple English bridle over her head. I lead her away from the cross-ties, and put her halter and lead back, along with grabbing my helmet, as we pass her stall.
Once outside, I quickly mount into the saddle and give her a pat. I breathe in the crisp, stable spring air as I nudge Luna into a walk, then a trot, and we head down into the forest trail.
I usually would've talked with some people, but I had my mind set on taking a morning trail ride before practice and chores, so maybe there would be some friend-making time afterward.

  • Instead of walking the mare around the arena to warm her up, Ellie began to trot the mare. Then she asked for a canter. She turned Honey down the centre line and towards a jump. The well-trained mare flew over it while her rider clung on for dear life. Ellie kept her balance as she came to the next jump, a tall red upright. Standing up in her stirrups, Ellie cantered onwards as they came over the pole.

  • Alicia turned a circle on the right rein, making Junebug perform a flying lead change. Now on the right lead, Alicia turned down the quarter line, lining her horse up to a small cross-rail. As obedient as he is, the old Junebug gelding hesitated for a moment, staring at the fence with uncertainty in his eyes. But with a small kick to his belly, he immediately took longer strides, then leapt over the fence.

Ic;; She led her gelding towards the flatter land trail. Stopping the buckskin, she pulled down her stirrups, and placed her foot in the stirrup. Swinging herself up and into the saddle, she fixed her reins and sat up tail. She clucked softly and pressed her heels into his sides. He picked up a walk and she steered him towards the trail. She watched the scenery, and as the trail got flatter, she picked the pace up to a trot. Fire flicked his ears back and forth, snorting every once and a while. She picked the pace up to a canter, moving herself with her gelding. As they approached some woods, she slowed him down to a walk. As she entered the wooded trail, she sighed softly. Suddenly a bird flew up right in front of Fire, causing him to rear up and then buck, which threw Alex off guard. Then he bolted, causing Alex to lose her stirrups and hang on barely with her reins. She tried to pull him back, but he added in another buck and she was thrown off, hitting the ground hard, her right side hitting the ground first. A sharp pain erupted in her arm, as she barely watched her horse running off. "Fire! Somebody Help!" She screamed, the pain getting more intense as her eyes began to drop and her vision became hazy. She closed her eyes and spots of black covered her now hazed vision.[/glow]

''I'm always late. Always!'' He yelled to himself in his car, pounding his open palm against the side of the leather car wheel furiously. A cop car passed his car, and he immediately slowed down by lifting his foot of the gas petal a bit. ''Damn cops...'' Cooper whispered to himself, wrapping his fingers around the wheel and squeezing them tightly. Finally he arrived at the academy, passing trees and many signs. He went through the entrance and pulled into a parking space, stopping his car and pushing the door open immediately after stopping. Before taking off to check in, he kicked the car door shut and began sprinting to the academy office with his hair a mess. He entered through the door and filled some papers to ride Apollo quickly in his sloppy handwriting. The waver to pay for accidents, blahblahblah. Cooper blasted out the door and hurried to the barn, entering and slowing his pace. Now he was breathing as quickly as a mother giving birth. ''Where is the hor- there!'' He turned to a dark stallion with a multi-colored mane. Pushing some dry hay away from his black boots, he walked up to the horse's head which was stuck out of the stall opening, and he stroked his nose calmly. Yet still breathless. ''Heya boy. Ready to tack up?''

As the shade covered us in dark shadows, I patted Luna’s side, and heard her chew on the bit. I chuckle and look down at her.
“I bet you want to go fast, huh, girl?” I say, then I clap my heels into her sides and she leaps into an energized gallop. The foliage is a blur as we tear along the trail, leaping logs and small downed trees easily. It’s like we’re one, I’m lifted into a perfect half-seat as Luna slows to a brisk canter, her strides long and graceful. The spring air is filled with the many smells of life and I breath it in, the fresh, crisp smell of life mixed with sweat and horsehair. I pump my fist in the air, but then the sound of thundering hoof beats and a girl calling forces me to slow Luna. Up ahead I see a girl lying on the ground, blacked out. I halt Luna and quickly dismount, then hurry over to Alex. I feel her pulse, confirming she’s alive and fine, then gently shake her.
“Hello? Hello?” I call, desperately trying to wake the fallen girl up.

Cooper heard the stallion snort as if he agreed, and Cooper chuckled with glee. ''Good boy. One moment.'' The man walked away from the stall and grabbed a halter and lead rope, walking back over to Apollo's stall and pulling it open after unlocking the small switch lock. He entered and shut the door behind him, making sure not to slam it. Apollo backed up a bit to give him room to put on the halter. Cooper smiled and slipped on the small rope-made halter, pulling it behind his dark brown ears and stroking his mane as he lost the halter's grip. ''Pretty. Your a beginner horse and I'm an advanced rider...but you look sweet. I won't push you to the limit, don't worry.'' He whispered as he lifted the lead rope and attacked it to the halter. The boy turned and pushed the stall door open with Apollo following behind him. He turned the stallion around so he could calmly shut the door again, and then walk toward the tack room. There, Cooper tied Apollo to a post and entered the tack room. Pretty soon he walked out with a large saddle stand, many brushes, and a few spray bottles. Then he reentered the tack room and pulled out a saddle pad and a saddle. Then entered again and again until getting all the things he needed. Apollo, in the background, waited patiently for Cooper. Cooper whirled around and grabbed one of the brushes, pressing it against Apollo's back and brushing downward carefully. Dirt that was caught from the brush was pushed out in small clouds that looked like dust. He made his way up his neck and down to the flank carefully, and immediately pulled away as Apollo seemed to be uncomfortable with him brushing his flank. ''Sorry bud.'' Cooper chuckled, patting his side and grabbing the hoof cleaner. Wrapping his fingers around Apollo's front left leg and squeezing on the ankle area ever so lightly, the stallion raised his hoof for Cooper and allowed him to clean it out. Cooper repeated the steps of cleaning the hooves but had a bit of trouble doing the back ones. Apollo didn't seem to appreciate the squeezing after awhile. Then afterward Cooper moved on to the mane and tail, combing through them thoroughly. Finally, he was finished. He lifted his hand and wiped his sweaty forehead, grabbing the saddle pad off the saddle stand and throwing it over Apollo's back. He adjusted it to the correct position before grabbing the saddle and throwing it over, this time grunting. It nearly slipped out of his grip. And this time he didn't set it down very carefully, so the stallion flinch and pulled his head toward Cooper. Cooper immediately frowned and stroked the stallion's neck. He stretched the girth down and walked around Apollo from the front and to his opposite side, grabbing the girth from under the stallion and pulling it up. He attached it to it's small clip and went on with the other straps. Then finally pulling the last strap up tightly and adjusting the stirrups. For the last and final step, Cooper grabbed some reins and a bridle. He pressed his fingers up against the sides of Apollo's mouth while feeling the stallion flinch and snort. The boy quickly slid the bit it where there were no teeth and he clipped the reins onto the bridle loops. He grasped the reins and led Apollo out of the tack room after spraying him with fly-relief and putting the stuff away. Once he and the stallion came to the jumping arena, he lifted his foot and rested it on the stirrup nearest to him. He pulled up and swung his leg around the stallion's back, sitting down and grasping the reins. Cooper chuckled and kicked softly at Apollo's belly, clicking his mouth constantly in a loud, high-pitched way. The stallion immediately began to trot around the arena, Cooper sitting taking long breaths. Right now he doing some warm up laps. And his first ride to remember with Apollo.

Ic;; The feeling of shaking forced Alex to open her eyes slightly. "Uhh" She groaned, her vision still hazy and black dots skittered across her vision as well. She could feel someones warmth beside her, and their voice repeating a single word. 'Hello?' Alex managed to let out another groan. "Please, find my horse" She managed to grind out before the black dots increased in size and in numbers, dancing faster across her vision. "I can't lose... my horse" She added, her voice fading out slightly on the word 'lose.' The pain in her arm flared as she moved it a centimeter on accident. Letting out a whimper of pain, she felt herself growing dizzy and the black dots became more like black half-circles, encroaching on her hazed vision like trained predators.[/glow]

Cooper was finished up with his warm-up laps around the arena. He did a few jumps over a tipped barrel, but that was just to stretch Apollo's legs out. He grasped the reins tightly between his fingers and slid his hands down the reins, pulling back and clicking. He continued to pull back until the stallion backed up and turned around. Then, Cooper clicked once and kicked his heels softly into the horse's side. Apollo walked calmly out of the arena and on a trail covered in hoof prints. The hoof prints also looked pretty new. He continued to walk Apollo down the trail, until suddenly something appeared infront of the two. A large stallion, about the size of Apollo. Cooper admired the stallions coat but still was puzzled. It was grazing calmly in the middle of the trail with a saddle, reins, everything. The boy chuckled and walked up to the grazing stallion, grabbing his reins and following the track back where he came from. Another bunch slipped into his view and he immediately stopped Apollo with one hand, hissing with irritation. He looked down to see two girls from the camp, and he tightened his grip on the gelding's reins. ''Uhh...is she okay?'' Cooper asked with a small amount of concern in his voice, dismounting Apollo and grabbing both the horse's reins tightly.

  • Ellie took the mare over a few more jumps before simply walking out of the arena, not tidying up. She walked the mare down to the stables and gave a sloppy flying dismount, nearly landing on the floor. Ellie walked into the stables, Honey nickering as she followed. The girl took the mare into her stall, before taking her tack off and leaving her, without rubbing her down or grooming her. Ellie didn't care about the mare as much as she did winning. Wen she took the tack to the tack room, she left the saddle half hanging off of the rack, and just laying the bridle on top of it.

My gazed flashed up to the boy, and I stood, seeing as he had gotten the loose horse. I rub the back of my neck, my hazel eyes watching the boy.
“Um, she fell off her horse and keeps blacking out…” I say, glancing back at the girl. “Can you help me hoist her onto my horse?” I ask, gesturing to Luna, who was standing quietly and patiently on the trail, nickering curiously to the two new horses, who had come into her range of hearing, smelling, and seeing.
In all my experiences with riding, I had never had to do this. Shaking my head, I run my hand quickly through my short brown hair, I knew she favored her arm, so I was trying to figure out a painless ride back to the stable, where we could hopefully get some help.
