  • Charles nodded with a smile and rested his hand on her.
Shaun looked over to Charles parents, “I have to admit this is my first time eating with another family.”

  • Charles mother greeted Shaun, "its good to meet you both, " she looked at him and Elaine, "this is the first time for me too. I haven't been active in years so excuse my manners. I had a chef prepare food for all of us."

  • Amber smiled, blushing slightly when she noticed he was staring at her, "come on," she took his hand, "let's join them at the table," she pecked his lips once more.

His mother nodded, "it's strange. I remember Charles as a child so clearly but now he is an adult, and a low has changed," a shadow crossed her expression for a second but she smiled, "I heard a little bit about your own circumstances," she smiled softly.

  • "We can, or we can stay here for a bit longer and talk just the two of us," he said.

Shaun nodded completely understanding what she was talking about and how that felt. "Yeah, I never really got to interact with any of my children except Meg. So it's tough seeing them grown up already. It's like I didn't have much influence, nor was I there."

  • She wrapped her arms around him, "wont they notice our absense? Not that i would mind."

She nodded, "on the contrary, my husband has changed him so much. He also created a huge wound thst wasn't there before."

  • “We won’t be gone for too long besides, I want to be able to spend some time with you.” He hugged her, “So much has been going on and it’s nice to have one on one time with my love.”

“Oh, so you have a role in mending that hole?” He asked. He wondered just what happened between the boy and his father to create such a wound.

  • Amber smiled and leaned into his arms, "I'm really happy that your mother is awake now, " she said, "its such a wonderful miracle. "

She sighed, "i wish i could mend it, but i don't think it'll be easy. I was gone for a long time and i shouldn't push too hard. Everything has changed so much and i barely can keep up with it."

  • "Yeah, it's definitely a blessing," he said. He rested his head on hers, "It feels like all of my problems have seemingly disappeared."

"I understand that," he said. "Pushing too hard can backfire, but not pushing enough doesn't get you anywhere either." Shaun sighed, "I tried to slow down Amber's relationship with Charles, mainly because I wanted to feel like I can make up for the lost time, but I ended up kind of pushing her away."

  • Amver leaned into him quietly, her eyes closed and body relaxed against him. She opened her eyes after a minute, "but what about you and your father? " she asked carefully.

She looked at him, "it seems we reallt do have a lot in common, " she agreed, "watching them grow up is hard for us as parents, but letting then go is the most difficult. "

  • "What about us?" he asked. "Nothing has changed between us," he said. "Our relationship will remain the same even if my mother is urging us to get closer," he said. "I can pretend though."

Shaun nodded, "It's even harder when you didn't have all of the opportunities a parent should have when watching them grow up."

  • "i'm not talking about pretend, don't you want to heal the final wound on your heart," she said, kissing his cheek.

"You have three children," she said softly, "how hard it is watching my only son, i cannot imagine how difficult it has been for you."

  • Charles shook his head before finally standing. "He wasn't there when I needed him the most and now that everything is back to normal my parents want things to change. I just don't agree with that," he said. "But, we should probably head in there now."

Shaun nodded, "The only one who knew about me was Meg and that's because we met when she was young," he said. "The others didn't know that I even exist."

  • Amber sighed, knowing she could not change his mind, not even his mother could. "He gave me his approval, " she said as she followed him back, "it might not mean much but im happy that he approves."

She blinked, "oh my," she frowned, "im sorry to hear that. You must've suffered a lot then."

  • Charles smiled, "That's good," he said. "I know that you are afraid of damaging your relationship with your father, but I'm ready to live together whenever you are."

Shaun nodded, "That's why it's so hard for me to see Amber further her relationship. I never got to enjoy being a father to her or any of the kids for that matter."

  • Charles nodded and headed towards his seat at the side of the table. He listened in on what they were talking about.

"Go for it, I have thought about it a lot, so another perspective could be helpful," he said.

  • She sat down beside him quietly

    .

"Let them go. Its hard,. To my eyes it was just yesterday when Charles was a boy, crying in my arms when he got hurt. Now he has a woman he loves and wants to marry, and I'm happy for him. He has found a life he wants to live even if im not in it. Im judt happy i get to see him smile again after all the time ive lost."

  • Charles listened on, but remained silent.

Ash held Meg’s and whispered, “What do you think will come of this?”

“To some extent that’s the decision that I had to make,” he said. “I guess my issue now is coming to terms with it.”

  • Amber squeezed his hand.

Elaine set down at the table, she wasn't sure she wanted to hear the conversation.

    Meg shrugged.

She nodded, "i suppose you're right, " she glanced toward her son, "its not like we can rewind time. "
