He smiled before turning the other way and running back to his village. When he arrived he was greeted by his best friend Te'yan. "Where were you??" he asked running up to him. "I was um.. out." he replied. "Well no duh, I mean where? and what where you doing?"
"I was patrolling along edge of our land," replied Taham thinking of an excuse, "Well you missed it. Naomi's father wants her to get married to a good strong warrior, meaning you and I have a chance at marrying her!" he said with a wide grin. Taham faked a smile before bidding Te'yan goodbye and going to his tent. All he could think about was Crystal and wondering when they could meet again.

Crystal walked upstairs in the small cottage to her room, sitting on the bed beside the window. She looked out towards the trees until her family called her down for supper. She quickly got changed in casual attire, a simple, knee length skirt and a flowy, white blouse. She sat at the table, prayed and ate quickly before standing. "I'm going to explore more." She announced. Before anyone could protest, she walked outside and into the woods again, but got distracted by a butterfly of a color she had never sen. She followed the butterfly until she finally looked around. She was nowhere near the tree line. Her heart skipped a beat and she began to get scared, biting her lip and hugging herself, beginning to walk the way she think she ca e from.
-
"Taham wake up!" a voice said making Taham groan and turn on his side. His friend let out a sigh before picking up a cup of water and dumping it on Taham's head. He flew up his eyes wide and an annoyed expression clearly plastered on his face, "Sometimes I wonder why we're best friends." mumbled Taham rubbing his face. "Very funny, now come on, we've been chosen to do a midnight patrol on horseback." said Te'yan. "Another patrol!?" said Taham with a groan. He stood up and exited the tent following Te'yan to the horses. He grabbed his bow and arrow before climbing on to a horse, "I'll go south, the rest of you split up to get North, West, and East." he spoke, before taking off in a gallop. As he galloped across the forest he passed a very familiar figure, he pulled his horse to a halt then spoke, "Crystal?"
-
Crystal looked up at the familiar voice and looked at the indian on the horse's back. She blinked and smiled happily. "Taham..." She breathed out gratefully before looking around. "I know this sounds silly but...I got lost following a butterfly..." She said, her face reddening with embarrassment. To think she had gotten lost! And while following a bug no less! She could have killed herself for being so stupid!
-
"You got lost.... chasing after a butterfly," he said confirming it before bursting out into a fit of laughter, "You look like you are a mature woman but you act as though sometimes you are a child," he said with an amused expression on his face, "I like that, your not to serious." he smiled. "Do you want me to give you a ride? Or do you hope to find another butterfly that can lead you home," he asked still chuckling a bit as he extended his hand for her to take and climb on.
-
"With the way you're acting, I'd rather take my chances with the butterfly." She snapped back, but took his hand anyway, climbing onto the horse easily. She had ridden horses before, nothing new. No other girls in her family could ride a horse, only her. Part of why she preferred the outdoors, She sat on the horse and looked around before looking at Taham. "Thank you anyway though. Even if you WERE rude."
-
He chuckled at her words and smiled when she took a hold of his hand and climbed up onto the horse behind him. "I was only playing with you," he said, whistling and kicking the horse's side making the horse start in a trot, "I'm sorry if I upset you, I just found it very funny," he said, "I love the fact that your a little childish, it's a nice break from all the grown up serious girls from my village,"

Crystal stayed quiet, not really knowing what to say. She didn't know about his culture. All she had been told was that all people who lived in the woods were savages, killing anything and anyone on sight. But this wasn't the case. She ran a hand through her hair and watched the trees pass as she sat on the horse. She had a sudden urge to document everything that she saw, but she didn't have any paper or ink to write with and on. Instead, she threaded her hands together and looked at him quietly. "Is everyone in your village that serious?" She asked.

((Yea :) ))
He breathed in the crisp midnight air before replying, "Most of them are, the children are still children but ever since more and more pale faces have come, my people had to become more serious. Well not Te'yan, he's my best friend. No matter how old he is he still acts like a small boy." he said laughing a bit. "Besides even if the pale faces weren't here, I'd have to be more serious. I of marrying age, meaning that I must take a wife as soon as I can and start a family." he said. He didn't want to get married yet, he wanted to still go out and have fun

Crystal looked back down at the ground when he mentioned he was the age to marry. Her parents still thought her too incapable. She crossed her legs at the ankles and nodded, but said no more. Secretly, she hoped he didn't get married. If he did, he wouldn't be able to go out as much. And then she wouldn't be able to go in the woods without someone with her or a compass and map at least. As they neared the edge of the trees, she slid off the horse, standing where she was and hugging herself lightly, watching the ground.

He slid off of the horse and turned to face Crystal, "You know, we can just stay here and talk, I'll tell the other warriors that I wanted to take a full night's patrol," he said walking to a nearby tree and tying the horse's reins to a branch. He sat down on the ground with his back against the tree trunk, "Do you wanna talk? I mean if you don't then I can always leave..."

Crystal sat down a little ways from him, still watching the ground. Finally she looked up at him and shrugged. "I don't know what to talk about..." She said simply, returning to her quiet spell. She was trying to figure out why she didn't want him to marry. She furrowed her brow in thought and kept rummaging through possibilities, not once even considering that she already liked the man more than she should. "You...you own't actually get married...right?" She asked quietly, looking up at Taham with a worried look in her eyes.

Her question got him thinking. He didn't really want to get married, and even if he did get married he'd prefer that it'd be because he would love someone, not because he has to. "I... don't know. I mean.... I guess I have to get married eventually but if I could choose it wouldn't be until a little while later. But that isn't up to me. It is up to my father and my future bride's father," he sighed. He looked up at Crystal and smiled at her. There was just something about her that he liked.

Crystal nodded slowly. So basically, it could be happening right now, the decision and he would never see her again. It was only a matter of time. The girl started to wonder if she should even see Taham anymore, seeing as how every time she saw him, she found a new thing that she liked about him. Maybe she should call it a night... But she didn't move. Instead, she sat where she was and crossed her legs, pulling her skirt to cover her knees and looking at the ground a bit sadly.

his eyebrows furrowed together as he saw he looking down sadly at the ground. He scooted forward so that he was now sitting right beside her, "Why do you look so sad Crystal?" He asked her. His brown eyes fixed on her. "Did I say something that upset you? If I did I'm sorry..." He said not sure if he insulted her. The thought of being the reason why Crystal was sad made him feel bad for some reason.

She looked up at him and fought the urge to run away. She looked at him before looking back down, grabbing a small stick and drawing circles in the dirty forest floor. "This might sound...rude or stupid or whatever else but...I hate the thought of you getting married. I know it's your custom but...if you did, even though we only just met, we wouldn't be able to see each other anymore. And I really want to learn about you people...but..." She trailed off, not wanting to continue. Instead she just put her stick in the middle of a circle and folded her hands together. "I don't want to get too attatched to you. It will only hurt more if you marry another woman then..." She said in a whisper.

"Oh...." He said softly looking down at the ground. She was right, if he was to get married then he'd be busy all the time. Not to mention that his father would want him to have children, which would make it impossible for him to see Crystal, "Well... I'm not married yet. So why don't we have fun while we can," he smiled, "If you want, you can ask me questions about my people and I'll answer you," he smiled

Crystal looked up at him and blinked. He was right. He wasn't married hey. Then again, she still shouldn't get too close. She leaned against a tree and picked her stick out of the dirt, holding it between her fingers. "I want to know everything. Customs...rituals...even your favorite food." She joked with a small smile.

He smiled then spoke up, "There are lots of different rituals, and customs. But the main ones that we have are, the feasts, weddings, moving from a boy to man, moving from young girl to woman and the death of a villager. We throw big feasts whenever something good happens, we spend the night talking having fun and dancing by the fire after we've eaten. Weddings are much like the feasts but at the end of the night the man and woman must share a tent for the first time...." He said trailing off awkwardly...
"Um.. And then moving from a boy to man is a pretty big deal. Once we reach the age of sixteen years, we must go out into the woods in search of a predator like a bear or a mountain lion. If we kill the predator then we are no longer a boy but a man. But if the predator kills you... Then we have the death ceremony." He said staring at the ground remember his own coming of age battle with a bear, it was the most painful experience of his life.

Crystal listened closely, memorizing every word he said. When he was finished, she blinked and slouched against the tree further. "Wow. That sounds...interesting. So what did you kill to become a man?" She asked, looking at him. He didn't look like he was still considered as a boy, but he could be. After all, this culture was new to her and she didn't know much about it. She continued to watch him, awaiting an answer before she smiled. "My culture is not nearly as entertaining..."
