Name: Gres, God of Emotion, Keeper of the Cloud Archive and Retired Assistant to Sol (Primordial God/Goddess of Order and Balance)

Gender: Male - though, like most deities, he can swing from one end of the gender spectrum to the other if he so pleases.

God Of: Emotional Equilibrium

Symbol: Gres holds one symbol with two variants. Both are of a white color. For those of the Shard Temple, the constellation is in the shape of a wing. It’s the most common, but if you want to see the older symbols you’ll find them in the shape of a sun.

Animal Symbol: Varying subspecies of Cormorants. The Shard Temple used to sacrifice them in order to absorb negative anger/rage and push back storms, with the darkest said to be the most effective. None of them were truly effective altogether, and after Ethos turned towards a democratic government program, they instilled laws to make the birds sacred, which cut off all remaining practitioners and branded others inhumane. Now most believers within that city-state will merely craft paper, stone, even onyx and glass Cormorants, or find feathers to show worship to their deity.

Parents: Created from the flesh of Sol’s own lungs after Sol found the world forming out of chaos.

Usual Look: The immense form of this atmospheric God is the pinnacle of a deity suited to life within the vast walls of the Archive, with several paired arms and tendrils used to sort, categorize and perform extremely articulate actions within a network of emotion. His immortal form, though changeable at will, is normally that of an almost centaur-like being, with thousands of clustered eyes underneath a bony ridge that looks much like a v-shaped visor staring out at everything and everyone. His brain is almost technologically superior, built to handle and perceive even the most hidden of mortal feeling, to the point where a small smile stands out to him like a tremendous explosion of firecrackers. His skin is laced with receptors which experience a wide array of emotional activity, and because of all this, he is quite easy to read despite his best poker face. The colors that he glows usually betray what he feels, blue being his calm while anger bursts into red or even an unnaturally bright white.

When not a towering immortal weather-controller you’ll find he turns himself into a mortal guise once or awhile - to check on his subjects or even at some points to stay away from the drama of the immortal realms. In his mortal form his appearance assumes that of a regular Ethosian, bearded with dark hair, eyes that gleam different colors much like his receptors normally would (the one trait that most can identify him by), and armor crested with the symbol of a High Shard Priest.

Human Form Reference

Mythology: Primarily, Gres is the archival unit to Sol, and the twin - at least in terms of role - tied to Joan. A literal piece of Sol’s body, he was born as a creature of Order, and his sense of balance centers specifically around the atmosphere. In physical means, he protects Siren’s troposphere - enabling mortals to breathe by generating and managing clouds, guarding the line between the atmosphere and outer void from floating space debris, and regulating the transfer of energy, air and light through the clouds to all life below. Though he does not necessarily control the air itself, he integrates it and the absence of it as a part of this tentative balance. Despite the extent of such powers, most of his disciples and worshippers are concerned with his primary role; Gres is the avatar of emotional equilibrium, and the keeper of all information percepted and felt by mortal subjects. Essentially, he perceives emotions as physical objects, and as the ingredients to certain cloud patterns. Using it, he may alter the course of weather, and he may display abilities similar to that of an Empath. The Cloud Archive is his domain, a sprawling index of the most intense emotions ever gathered from the world below. Its mortal equivalent lies within the Shard Temple of Gres, in the city-state of Ethos.

Gres was created in a time of madness and explosion known as the Chaos period, where the formation of worlds brought to life Sol and its relations, the main bodies of Siren. These Primordial Gods would create the first deities, and thus establish the basic pieces of both Siren and the concepts surrounding humanity and their cultures. Most of them around this time would be created not for this purpose, but to ease off the troubles that the Primordial Gods had trying to manage a world as great and large as Siren. Thus was the start of Gres, who was the principle assistant to Sol. He was the chronicler of Sol’s emotional chambers, created from the lungs of the huge Entity of Order and Balance. So he lived in the clouds, and functioned as the lungs of the planet, and was one of the principal factors to giving mortals the breath of life. As the Gods fashioned their own subjects and began to regulate some sense of normalcy in the realm, he chose to watch inquisitively at the new creatures below, and in particular to the Ethosians - of whom he found the most peaceful and free of all. He studied them often, to the point where his presence began to be known… and appreciated.

Centuries passed and Gres and Sol butted heads often, along with a “sibling rivalry” to his twin element, Joan. The reasons were unclear at the time, muddled over history, until it was just an ordeal of which was better - thinking with one’s brain, or with one’s heart. While efficiency was certainly necessary to have in a people, Gres wanted the mortal realm to be able to truly feel all things that deities could feel. Not heeding Sol’s warnings of what such tampering with mortal hearts could do, Gres altered human emotions and unfortunately became partially responsible for creation the first war among the mortal races. A war which not only unleashed a new force unto the immortal world and introduced the concept of “Blood-lust” to the mortals, but also slaughtered many of the passive Ethosians, reducing their numbers to a small population within their capital village, Ethos. Though he believed this would completely sever his favor with them, they instead created the Shard Temple in his honor, now fully understanding the range of negative and positive emotions which connected to Gres. They would soon snap off his ties with Sol altogether, and it would be this final push (as well as the fact that he would soon be the father of a mortal himself) that would make him an independent force within the immortal community.

It has not been long since he has rebuilt his own Cloud Archive to continue managing emotions among the people, though he’s been independent for awhile now, and his ties to Joan have become extremely slight. He has been keeping an eye on his son for some time now, little time in the eyes of a God, and only now does he tentatively wish to touch down, especially now that darker forces - forces that he has never dreamt of seeing in his life - are beginning to appear in the cosmos now.

About time for a family reunion.
