  • (lol I just got my warrior naem So call me Gloomspark)

"Nothing....." he mewed and turned his head.

  • (nevermind. There was a mintpaw in riverclan that fell in love with smokepaw.)

A wolf howled in the distanse

  • OOC: So are we just going to pretend that Gloompaw was a warrior the entire time then?

BIC: Adderpaw grunted when Gloomspark nudged him, and turned to snap something at him when he realized that the young warrior was playing with him. It caught Adderpaw off-guard to see a sudden shift in the tom’s attitude, but he couldn’t say that he wasn’t relieved; pushy Gloomspark was much worse than suddenly-playful-and-happy Gloomspark.

The tabby and white tom glanced at Mintkit and was pained a bit to see that she had taken a liking to Gloomspark, and was surprised that the tom wanted her to stay. I’m her kin...she should want my approval, not his! But the more he looked at the pair the more he understood Mintkit’s shift in attention: she wanted others to believe in her and to want her to join ShadowClan, and she obviously hadn’t understood that he wanted her to join but that he needed to be responsible and ask permission first. Heaving a heavy sigh he turned and kept padding towards RiverClan, his heart heavy; why was he always such a stick in the mud? Why couldn’t he just be fun? He glanced worriedly at Swallowpaw; would she rather be with someone like Gloomspark, happy and playful, rather than a serious code-follower like himself? Lost in his thoughts Adderpaw realized that they had re-entered RiverClan and he stopped, tasting the air; no sign of patrols, but he did catch a fresh scent of Troutclaw. Good; his brother was nearby. Hopefully they could get this thing sorted out quickly, whatever the result may be. Careful to be quiet but still heard he called out, “Troutclaw! It’s Adderpaw, are you there?”

  • Mintkit, crouched beneath Adderpaw as she heard her father coming. "Uh oh." She whispered.

Troutclaw came running up to Adderpaw, his eyes full of worry. "Have you seen Mintkit? She's white and black with green eyes." He meowed in a hurry.

  • Adderpaw scented his brother moments before the gray tom appeared. His eyes were wide with worry, and Adderpaw felt guilty for not returning sooner. With a flick of his tail he mewed, “Yes we have. As a matter of fact, she’s been with us the entire time.” Using his paw he gently pushed the white and black kit forward towards her father. “She followed us back into ShadowClan territory,” he explained. “We didn’t notice her until then. She was very sneaky, quite the stalker actually.” He couldn’t suppress a purr of pride in his kin; she was barely six moons and she had successfully stalked two ShadowClan apprentices from her territory into their own, and had only been discovered because she had made noise. He couldn’t help but wonder if they would have noticed her at all had she been completely silent.

Without hesitating Adderpaw added, “Troutclaw, before you take her back to your camp there’s something I want to discuss with you.” Adderpaw had fully intended to keep his promise he had made his niece and mewed, “Mintkit has expressed an interest in joining ShadowClan. She knows who I am and wants to train as a ShadowClan apprentice, not RiverClan.” He lowered his head in respect. “I told her that it was your decision in the end, but I won’t lie to you Troutclaw; I’d very much like it if she could join ShadowClan. Even though I know I have kin in RiverClan, I’m still alone in my Clan.” He shot Swallowpaw an apologetic look, silently telling her that he was only lonely kin-wise, therefore not intending to insult her. He was grateful to her for being there for him, but couldn’t suppress a pang of worry as he once again thought about her and Gloomspark; would she choose the other tom over Adderpaw?

  • Mintkit crouched on the ground in front of her father. "I'm sorry..." She mumbled.

Troutclaw licked his daughter between her ears. "It's alright." He purred turning to Adderpaw he sighed. "She's wanted to join Shadowclan since she heard stories about them in the nursery." He meowed looking sadly at his tiny daughter. "I don't know if I want her so far from me." He hesitated and nuzzled Mintkit lovingly. "You promise to keep her save?" He glanced at his half-brother.

  • [Editing; Oh, and Bramble? Swallowpaw is back at the Shadowclan camp, or at least in the territory. I don't think she could stalk them silently enough with her wound. I just saw in your post that you glanced at her, or maybe I was mistaking? All the same, I just checking ^~^]

Poppypaw shot a glare at anyone in particular in the Riverclan camp. There was nothing to do. nothing. The she-cat narrowed her eyes, looking at the fresh-kill pile skeptically. There was plenty of fish! Oh, and what more? A tom had just plopped another water-dwelling creature on top! Water still dribbled off of the silvery scales, the smell of its blood making her mouth water. But no, she couldn't deign to eat right now! Poppypaw lashed her tail, narrowing her eyes. She watched as a hunting patrol returned, along with another patrol. Poppypaw looked up eagerly. They had refused her at first, but the missing kit patrol looked down in spirits. What more, Troutclaw wasn't with them! Poppypaw's ears stick straight up as she bounded forward. She didn't bother to speak to them, their faces said it all. She didn't even bother to give them a backward glance. The proud she-cat disappeared out of the camp, no one even casting her a quick glance.

She started out through the cattails, striving to follow Troutclaw. His scent, at first, was mixed with the others'. Then, his scent trail broke off. She slowed to a stop to be quieter. Who knew what trouble she would get in if she made a bunch of noise? Silently as she could, the golden, black-spotted she-cat started to lower herself to the ground. Her movements were smooth and fluid. She paused at the stench of Shadowclan. For some reason, it was stronger today. Raising her head above the fallen bark of a tree, Poppypaw felt her eyes widen. There was troutclaw, with Mintkit! But two Shadowclan cats were there too! By the looks of it, both apprentices. Well... one of them looked older, maybe a young warrior? Troutclaw's words echoed in her ear.

"You promise to keep her safe?"

Poppypaw bounded over the piece of bark, racing into view. "Only Riverclan can keep Mintkit safe!" the golden she-cat snapped, coming closer to the four cats.

  • OOC: Oops! No you’re right Kangaroo; I forgot she had left ^.^

BIC: Blinking his murky green eyes Adderpaw nodded to his brother. “Yes, of course I’d keep her safe! Not only would she be a Clanmate, but she’s my kin; I’ll defend her with my life.” He bowed his head to show that he was serious; this would be a promise he intended to keep. If Troutclaw let his daughter join ShadowClan, Adderpaw would do anything to protect her.

Suddenly he caught a fresh scent of RiverClan, and was about to mew to Troutclaw when a cat leapt from the bushes, fur bristling and lips drawn back in a snarl. Adderpaw’s heart plummeted; this was what he had wanted to avoid, but it seemed that his hopes had been dashed. He cast a quick glance upward to the blue sky. Did this mean that StarClan disapproved of his decision to bring Mintkit back with them? Shirking the thought for the time being the apprentice knew that he had to first deal with this new cat. She was smaller than Troutclaw, and he decided that she must be an apprentice. Her spotted golden fur was bristled like a bramble bush, her claws unsheathed. Adderpaw wasn’t so much worried about fighting with her as he was getting discovered by an actual patrol; then they’d be in big trouble.

The tom forced himself to be calm as he addressed the she-cat. “Look, we’re not here to cause trouble. My name is Adderpaw and Troutclaw‒” He stopped, thinking his words over carefully. It was probably not a good idea to reveal his half-brother’s secret as he had no idea how his Clan would react. So instead he hastily continued: “Troutclaw was patrolling the border when Gloomspark and I found his kit. We had been patrolling our own border and found this kit on our territory. We came to return her, that’s all.” His voice was level and cool, betraying nothing. He flashed a glance at the kit, praying to StarClan that she kept her mouth shut; it would only take the kit a few seconds to reveal that he had just lied.

“ShadowClan would be honoured to take this little kit,” he went on, picking his words carefully to try and avoid angering this she-cat even more. “She would be well looked after and trained with the best warriors, I can assure you.” Though it was not his place to make this decision or to reassure any cat that one of their own would be fine in a rival Clan, he really wanted his kin to join, and knew that by now he wouldn’t take ‘no’ as an answer. His tail twitched nervously; he wished Swallowpaw was here with him.

  • (Bramble? Gloomspark is Hawkwings mate so you don't have to worry. :-* )

    Gloomspark grinned.

  • Poppypaw shot a glare at the older male. Why did he grin? Did he think he was better then her? Well she'd show him some Riverclan moves and teach him a lesson! The she-cat started forward, lips drawing back to reveal her pointed teeth. "Do you find this funny? Trying to steal one of our kits?" Poppypaw snarled, eyes narrowing to slits. Still, she felt lighter then air. These Shadowclan cats were paying attention to her! They weren't mourning her dead siblings, lost to green cough, like her mother and most of the clan. Those in Shadowclan knew nothing about her. They just saw a angry cat. A cat ready to defend her clan! However, as she looked at the tabby, she paused. So they'd just been patrolling their borders, and decided to just bring the kit back? Poppypaw sniffed disdainfully. Her fur had flattened slightly, though you could tell she was still on edge. The tom was most likely a apprentice, though he looked strong. The two might have been the same age, though Poppypaw found herself to just possibly be of a slighter build. The other tom looked muscular as well, though he couldn't have been a warrior long, if he was even one. Would Winterstar literally send these two to escort a kitten back to Riverclan?

"Wait..." Poppypaw snapped, looking back at Troutclaw. He didn't look hostile at all! Glad to see his kit and all, but shouldn't he be at least a little suspicious of these cats? "If you're just bringing her back, why would Troutclaw even offer to give her to Shadowclan? There'd be no reason to send her off with savages!" the golden, black-spotted she-cat hissed. However, Poppypaw did what no smart cat should have done. She turned her back on the cats of the other clan, and eyed Troutclaw. Despite herself, she felt uneasy, though her eyes were hopeful. Troutclaw was just teasing this Shadowclan cats, right?

  • Adderpaw eyed the she-cat, who was slowly getting on his nerves. He didn’t like the way she was hinting that they had stolen Mintkit, and he really didn’t like the way she was staring at them like they were going to snatch the kit up and disappear into the night. Dumb she-cat, who does she think we are? Twolegs? He held his tongue though; after all, they were on her territory and he knew well enough to refrain from insulting her, even though he was pretty certain he could handle her.

But his calm demeanour vanished when she insulted ShadowClan. Fur bristling, claws unsheathing and lips drawn back Adderpaw hissed, “ShadowClan are not savages!” He felt like ripping her to shreds; if this was how a cat treated others who returned their lost kit, then he had no hope for the future of RiverClan. He had no patience to re-explain the situation to her; she was too hot-headed for reason. Then she turned her back on him, and he snapped. Snarling viciously Adderpaw sprang with his powerful hind legs, forepaws stretched out to snag her golden fur. He crashed on top of her and screeched as he did his best to teach her some manners.
