Herd

2 years

Looks
Estralla is a startlingly bright filly, full of spunk and enthusiasm. She about as white as freshly fallen snow, or a pure white dove's feathers. Her nose is faintly outlined in grey, with a pinkish center. Her puppy-dog brown eyes are wild and always on alert for something to spook at. Her long mane and tail are a near-perfect white color, only the slightest bit of grey stains them.
Estralla is a very filled out precise looking thing. Her legs are a perfect height, and she has perfect conformation, which is unusual in most mustangs. She stands at about 14.5hh, her legs and back rippling with strength and muscles. She is slim still, but is not a dainty little thing.
Personality
Estrella is all about fun and games and teasing. She can't take anything seriously and especially loves galloping circles around the herd. She hates being lazy, and is always on high alert for potential dangers. She's bold and reckless, and doesn't know how to stand down from a fight. She's painfully honest and is never afraid to tell the truth, she knows actions have consequences. Estrella is usually happy sweet filly, and usually isn't snippy or mean. She loves being the center of attention and doesn't like to share much.
She can be mean and bossy, more bossy than anything. She likes things to go her way and doesn't like to be ordered around. She will stand up for herself and her friends without a second thought, and never let's anyone bully her around. She doesn't like to be alone, actually not at all. She is a great secret keeper, and is also excellent at extracting them. She's not afraid to tell others what she thinks of them, and hates un-fairness.
Estrella isn't necessarily a scardy-cat, but she's quick to bolt away if something startles her. The big difference is she will boldly confront whatever it is after she put some space between her and it. She has a natural ability for leadership, and is quick to correct herself and others if they are wrong. She values truth and honesty more than anything, and hates being judged or falsely accused. She knows whats right and wrong, and would easily lie to protect someone. She will trust others easily, and forgives all to quickly. Although, sometimes to far is to far. She daydreams constantly and is never quite focused on what she's doing most of the time. She remembers things better than most though, she won't let someone forget something easily.
To sum Estrella up, she's a funny thing bursting with energy and likes to do what's right, usually.
History (summed up)
Estrella was born to Comet and Ghost along with her twin brother, Feather. He was her best friend, and they constantly played together. At the time they lived with a small herd of two other mares and one of their foals. They all shared a tight bond, and looked out for each other. One night there was a terrible snowstorm. The next day the foals played in the powdery substance happily, blissfully un-aware that it provided a terrible problem. What they didn't realize was they hadn't been able to travel to their winter home yet, they were trapped without food and a minimal amount of water.
Slowly Estrella had to watch her family starve, along with herself. It was the bleakest moment in her short life. Estrella and Feather were still nursing, so it didn't pose a problem to them seemingly. one of the mare's foals, Flash, was one of the first to starve, to Estrella's horror. The older two mares died soon after, followed closely by her own mother. When she was only a weeks old her father had died form a strange sickness, and now she alone with only her brother in this cruel world. The scrawny half-starved filly stumbled through the snow, numb with pain. The snow fell in rivelets, coating their already pure white backs in their color. After a few hours they found a hot spring, they both fell into it not sure if they would ever move again.
Just about this time a horse appeared on the horizon line, unseen to the orphans. It was a pretty bay mare, who had lost her own foal to the snow. She was a true mountain horse, knowing every crevice and crack. How she could spot the to white blurs amidst the snow is amazing, but she quickly came down to see them. Compassion filled her heart, and she adopted the two as her own.
When things were starting to just get better, Feather became very sick. He hadn't gained any weight like his bigger sister and slowly wasted away to nothing and died a few days after the mare found them. Broken-hearted Estrella continued on with her adopted mother, slowly returning to her full strength. A week or so later they stumbled upon the mare's, Cherry, old herd. She'd lost them in the storm, and they all gratefully reunited.
One day Cherry disappeared, and Estrella never saw her again. They all suspected a bear or something had gotten the pretty bay, but nothing was confirmed. Estrella continued to live in Cherry's herd, although half her heart was gone. Even after losing everything she knew and loved, she continued to be the cheery, goofy happy little foal the herd had grown to love, although she was dying on the inside. (Goodness, I just made myself cry over that!)

---Prologue

Ghost's sides heaved, a groan escaped her. Her sides were lathered with foamy sweat, and the young mare trembled with fear. Another twist of pain, then everything stopped. She lifted her damp, pure white, head to stare at the second package. The first one, a girl, had arrived earlier, this seemed to be her brother. The stars shone brightly overhead, the moon cast soft rays onto the new mother and her babies. A gentle breeze swirled around them, the mare quickly got to work licking and encouraging them to stand on wobbly legs.
What will I name them? The mare wondered. They watched her un-blinking, just studying her pretty features. She was pretty indeed, her coat was as pure white as the moon, untouched with any grey. She face was long and pretty, showing ever so faint traces of an Arabian heritage long ago. Her legs were long and well-muscled, her mane and forelock perfect white along with her tail. Her eyes were a ghostly blue, her muzzle pinkish with a grey outline.
Estrella, for star. Her coat is a s pure white as the stars, untouched by any darkness. She will shine like a little star forever. Ghost thought. The repeated the name to herself, then aloud, "Estrella." The little filly's eyes widened, she seemed to know it was her name. The mare nuzzled the foal, Estrella, with a pure white muzzle. The filly wasn't exactly like the mare, her eyes were soft brown and she had slight grey markings. The little colt turned ot look at his sister, Ghost noticed he was a mirror image of her, excluding the blue eyes. Not a bit of grey touched his coat, except for a bit on his nose.
Little feathery wisps of snow fell upon them, melting whenever the hit the warm bodies. Feather. He's as light as a feather and as soft as one. Ghost confirmed. "Feather." She whispered to the tiny thing. His ribs showed faintly, clearly he was smaller than his sister. His dainty white legs were curled under him, making no move to get up. After a few tries Estrella also gave up, preferring to curl up beside her brother and peer at her mother through brown orbs.
Ghost heaved herself shakily to her feet, tickling her foals with her whiskers. The filly reached up to touch noses with her mother, instantly Ghost's heart was melted. She nuzzled them both, encouraging them to get up. On wobbly unsturdy legs, Estrella finally made it up and took a hesitant step before falling in a heap on the ground. Feather's sides rippled with laughter as he watched his sister, but Ghost knew it wasn't any joking matter.
"Come on little ones, stand up for me now, dears."
The pure white mare nickered, her nostrils flared and ears pricked for any sign of danger. The clearing was peaceful, for now, but the sweaty mare knew better. She shook herself out, flinging clumps of dirt and grass all over the foals. They looked at her with astonishment, not quite sure what to think. Nuzzling them in encouragement, finally the reluctant foals staggered to their feet bracing themselves for the worst. Gaining confidence Estrella took a wobbly step forward, wide brown eyes shining in excitement.
Soon both foals were on their feet and moving about after having their first taste of food. This is Estrella's story, read on to learn about this little filly.
