  • [align=center] Aron sighed. "Women." He stood and faced the camp. "Off we go then. Itll be safest to go from rooftop to rooftop. Think you can manage that, or do we need to go down?"

  • "Rooftop to Rooftop. Just not any flying" she says meekly as she jumps one of the short distances to another roof. Landing in a crouch, her wings slightly raised so as to not injure herself anymore than she already was.

  • [align=center] Aron followed, leaping deftly from roof to roof. He briefly thought back to the before times. Sure, he'd imagined stuff like this happening- and, to be honest, had on occasion thought it might be fun to survive in a zombie infested world. Like in the video games. But this wasn't a video game. And it was in no way 'fun'.

  • It took a bit longer since Phoniex was slow with her injured wing but soon they made it to the roof top with people from her clan. They greet each other, though their eyes showed no happiness-there was none in the world today. There are 5 people, all boys that range between 17 and 35. The oldest one having scars all over his face, and an amputated arm. "This is a ..............friend of mine. He helped bandage me up."

  • [align=center] Aron nodded, deciding that now, for once, he should probably keep his mouth shut. Admittedly, he was a bit uncomfortable, because he was a loner most of the time, groups, even small ones, made him feel very out if place. The Hub was probably the only place he could at least kind of relax in the midst of others. Besides, he had his own room there.

  • Soon they were handing out small cans of some soup which was basically boiled water with cabbage and chunks of meat in it. Phoenix takes on over to Aron, handing it to him "its not much but it fills the stomach." She was by far much more relaxed than earlier that day, she felt more at home with these people. One of the boys had blue veins and black eyes, so she wasn't the only one with extreme mutations.

  • [align=center] "Thanks," Aron said, giving her a quick smile. "You know," he said, "I don't understand how you do it. I can hardly stand being around groups of people- let alone lead them. I mean, I hold some sway at the Hub, but mostly because I was key in securing it. I don't really have any control over it. No one does. Peoria just generally do what I ask because I killed a bunch of zombies." He shrugged and took a bite of soup.

  • She stares down into her can "I didn't really want to be leader, I was sort of forced into it.........But I don't complain or whine. I take what I have been given and do the best I can. The Eternal Flames may have some strong fighters, but there are also many children. It kills me to see them go hungry, I can hardly bare to think of what would become of them should the clan disband without a leader and they find themselves on their own." She pauses as she eats some of her meal before continuing "I don't want to be leader, but I don't want someone else having to feel what I feel either. There is no power or pride in what I am, its just stress and the constant struggle for not only my life-but many more."

  • [align=center] "I wish I had the strength to do what you do," Aron said, loooking at nothing in particular. "You see, I'm not generally the kind to put others before myself. Today... Today was an exception. Honestly, I'm just sick of seeing people die. Especially if its my fault they do." He suddenly became very interested in his soup. His dark hair obscured his face, he hoped. Emotion wasn't an option. Not now. Maybe when this whole nightmare ended- if it ever ended. But not now.

  • Phoenix gives a small smile "I am glad you helped me, otherwise I would have been trapped on that roof with no way to care for myself, my hands probably would have gotten infected..........I probably wouldn't be able to take the supplies I got today back. So you didn't help just me, but others back at my camp who need the medicine I have desperately..........Thank you" she says with a voice pure and sincere.

  • [align=center] "You're welcome," Aron said, giving Phronix a quick smile. It was a real smile, not a sarcastic smirk or facade. It conveyed a lot of things he himself couldn't say. His moment of happiness passed, however, and he asked, "What is life like in a group? My sister's in one, but I don't get to talk to her much. She's pretty busy most of the time."

  • "Easier, harder. You have people watching your back, but losses are a lot more severe." She says shrugging "More people to provide for, but more people getting supplies. More diplomacy involved, I could go on forever. There are wins and loses to it. "

  • [align=center] "Going solo has its pros and cons as well," Aron replied, putting down his now empty can. "You don't have to share or worry about whether other people are eating or not. Well, you do, but in a more... Detached way. You don't have anyone watching your back, but you can get around unnoticed most of the time. You don't have to worry about letting anyone down, or what might happen if they got infected. The last one... Well, that's the main reason I'm on my own."

  • She nods "Its not to uncommon, losing people to infection. But it seems sort of funny in a dark way that people used to worry about different things, like car or plane crashes, or maybe getting shot in a bank robbery. Infection used to be a figment of the imagination. Now its the number 1 cause of death........." She breaks off sighing "The first year I was a leader, we had some infected get through our barriers. They were by our school daycare type tent. All the children, only a couple adults. It was playtime for the kids, they were running around.........." Phoenix has to clear her throat "I didn't know a single one of those kids, I didn't know barely anyone except my closest friends and advisors at that time. But I can still remember the squeals that I heard , 5 of the 27 kids got infected. I helped take down each one........" she shakes her head "I went through h*ll and back in the aftermath of that, kept blaming myself for the breach-though it was really because of some slacking guards.......I cant possibly imagine what I would have went through if I had known those kids, if they were a loved one. This world is sick, ugly, and cruel. Humanity needs help or were going to be wiped out by our own misery and wounds."

  • [align=center] "It wasn't your fault," Aron said. "It wasn't anybody's, except for the people who launched that freaking nuke." He muttered an obscene name under his breath. His black hair stood on end, and the air around him smelled and crackled like electricity. He snatched up a metal pipe and touched it to the wrecked transformer on a nearby telephone pole. The smell of burning rubber filled the air as wires smouldered. "Sorry," he said quietly. "That happens sometimes. When I get angry." He looked tired, burnt out. He looked at the telephone pole. "Energy had to go somewhere. Bad things happen if it doesn't. Not like that was doing us much good anyway. I'm surprised it was still standing."

  • She nods, curious of what his mutation consisted of. "Well your free to spend the night here with the rest of us, in the morning were headed for camp."

  • [align=center] "Again, thanks," Aron replied. He suddenly surprised himself with how much he didn't want them to leave. Pheonix was one of the few people he got along with- his tendency towards snark ones and sarcasm often put people off. He frowned. This was, indeed, a dilemma.

Asuna knocked on the metal door-very few wooden ones had survived the explosion- and sighed as it remained closed. She had intended to return to camp, but hey, they wouldn't miss her for a night. It wasn't unusual for her to be gone overnight occasionally if she couldn't get back from supply hunting before sundown. She hadn't talked to Aron in ages, anyway, and she was starting to get a bit worried. She turned, leaning against the door. Where the h*ll was he anyway?

  • Phoenix gives him a smile as she stands up "No problem, your welcome at my camp any time." Stifling back a yawn she walks towards where the group had laid out blankets by the fire. There was one for everyone, even Aron. She lies down atop her blanket and quickly falls asleep two of the boys were sitting and talking quietly, they were the first watch.

  • [align=center] Aron lay on his back, staring up at the stars- or, well, the smoggy atmosphere that obscured those bright pinpricks of light from view. He decided that he would take her up on her offer and visit some time, but he wouldn't do any more than that. Grouping up again seemed a disastrous idea. It had just turned out badly any time he'd tried.
