    "Our kits." He purred, happiness hitting him like a wave.

    The kits hobbled around the nest, tripping over one another. Stonekit swiped playfully at Shadekit who let out a yelp of surprise.

    Rainfur watched his kits stumble around proudly. He touched noses with each of the kits. He stumbled towards the nest and lay beside his mate, feeling his eyes start to close, but he shook his head. "Do you want me to watch the kits?" He meowed sleepily to his mate.

    Mouseclaw got up and stretched her legs. "Would you? Daisyfur and I were going to take a walk together," she meowed. Daisyfur got up and padded over to Mouseclaw. "We won't be gone long." She meowed. Without letting Mouseclaw or Rainfur a change to respond she herded Mouseclaw out of the nursery. The padded towards the entrance and out into the woods. Mouseclaw breathed in a large gulp of air. "It's nice being back out in the forest." she meowed happily. Daisyfur nodded. They walked until the stream. Daisyfur sat down and curled her tail neatly over her paws. "Mouseclaw, can I ask you a question?" she asked. "Of course, what is it?" Mouseclaw meowed but there was a strange lump in her throat she knew what was coming. "Where did you and Rainfur find Shadekit?" she asked. Mouseclaw stared at the water blankly, her mouth dry.

    Rainfur curled around the sleeping kits, letting himself fall asleep.


    When he awoke, Shadekit was in the same curled up position, but she was staring at him with beautiful eyes. "Are you my daddy?" She asked excitedly. Pain thrashed through him at the thought that this was a Lightclan kit, not his, but he just nodded with a smile.

    "We found her in the woods, her mother must have been a rouge or a kittypet." Mouseclaw meowed dryly. "Mouseclaw, you know that isn't true. I could smell Lightclan scent on her. Where did you really get her?" Daisyfur pressed. Mouseclaw spun towards her, Mouseclaw's eyes were wide. "Please do not tell any cat!" She hissed. Daisyfur nodded. "The lightclan medicine cat gave her to us. It was hers, and she couldn't keep it. Who knows what Lightclan would have done to the poor thing? We had to..." Mouseclaw's voice died down.

    Rainfur started to worry, Mouseclaw and Daisyfur weren't back yet. He asked Creektail to watch the kits and padded into the forest. He heard voices and crept into a bush, seeing the two queens. He heard Daisyfur start to question Mouseclaw about Shadekit. He was about to leap out of the bushes when he heard Daisyfur promise not to tell. He walked out of the bushes. "Thank you Daisyfur." He meowed to the surprised she-cat.

    "Rainfur!" Mouseclaw and Daisyfur both meowed in surprise. "Who is watching the kits?"

    "Creektail has the kits. What's important is that you don't tell anyone." He meowed seriously to Daisyfur.

    Daisyfur nodded, "I swear to Starclan that I won't tell any cat," the golden she-cat vowed dipping her head.

    Rainfur dipped his head to the queen. "Thank you Daisyfur. We are very grateful." He said, twining his tail with Mouseclaw's.

    Mouseclaw nuzzled Rainfur. "We should head back, the kits will be missing us and we'll never hear the end of it," she purred

    Rainfur smiled. "Of course." He purred. He walked back to the camp with Mouseclaw and Daisyfur. He padded into camp, immediately tackled by his kits. He laughed and played along, rolling over.

    Mouseclaw sat down and curled her tail over her paws, purring. Heatherkit clung onto her father's tail. Stonekit batted playfully at his nose. Shadekit jumped onto his back.

    "Oh no!" Rainfur yowled, pretending to be hurt. He softly batted at Heatherkit, and the she-kit batted playfully back.

    Mouseclaw chuckled. Daisyfur watched Shadekit with interest. Mouseclaw glanced and knew Daisyfur wanted to know more about the kit. Mouseclaw just shrugged and turn back to the kits. Stonekit darted away from Rainfur and bounded towards Mouseclaw who fell over as the tiny kit jumped at her side. She batted lightly at the kit. Shadekit and Heatherkit joined in, Mouseclaw was now covered in their small squirming bodies.

    Rainfur sat up, mrrowing with laughter. "Looks like we got our paws full." He said to his mate. He leapt into the fight, rolling with his mate and kits. This was the life he could live forever.

    Mouseclaw purred happily and cuffed her mate playfully on his ear. The kits surged around them, batting at their tails and noses.

    Rainfur laughed loudly, cuffing her back. "I wish it was always this peaceful." He whispered to his mate.

    Mouseclaw nodded in agreement then looked down at her kits who looked tired. "Come on, back to the nest with the three of you," she meowed gently to them. "But we aren't-" Stonekit's protest was interrupted by a yawn. Mouseclaw herded the kits back with her tail, "Naptime," she meowed.
