  • Rainpaw hesitantly backed down, glaring at Swishtail and his patrol. "Let's go!" Eaglewing snarled, not taking his eyes off Swishtail. Rainpaw started padding toward the camp, when he heard terrified yowling ahead. He broke into a run, bolting towards the wails. He broke through undergrowth and saw a huge badger looming over Harepaw and Creektail. Without thinking he launched himself on the badger, digging his teeth into the thick fur. Creektail looked in absolute shock. He saw Mousepaw beside him, screeching and tearing out fur. The badger threw the cats off and swiped at Rainpaw, tearing flesh along his shoulder. He yowled as it aimed for Mousepaw and leapt to it's face, clawing it's eyes. Terrified, the creature lumbered off into the woods. He fell to the ground, his blood pooling around him. He saw Eaglewing, Mousepaw and Creektail race towards him. He was helped up by the two toms and they dragged him back to camp. He was carefully placed with Redpelt, the medicine cat. He pressed cobwebs to his pelt.

After Rainpaw had napped, he felt Redpelt nudging him. "Clan meeting." He meowed. Rainpaw pushed himself up and limped outside. He sat beside Mousepaw, twining his tail with hers. "Rainpaw and Mousepaw, please step forward." Sunstar yowled. Rainpaw felt his heart leap out of his chest. He and Mousepaw were getting made warriors! "Rainpaw, you have shown great courage and skill. Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do!" He yowled with all his heart.
"Then by the powers of Starclan I give you your warrior name, Rainfur!" The clan started chanting his name, and he felt like he would burst. Then Sunstar turned to Mousepaw. "Mousepaw, you have shown great courage and skill. Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?"
    "I do!" She yowled.
"Then by the powers of Starclan I give you your warrior name, Mouseclaw!" Rainfur stared proudly at her and started yowling her name.

  • Mouseclaw rubbed up against Rainfur, basking in her new warrior name. Jadepelt padded up to her, her green eyes narrowed and her muscles rippling underneath her sleek black pelt. "Congratulations Mouseclaw," She hissed. "Watch yourself." Mouseclaw just flicked her ear, ignoring her. "What's Jadepelt's problem?" Mouseclaw whispered to Rainfur.

  • "She got in a fight with an Adderclan warrior on the border, then got in trouble with Sunstar." He meowed, glaring at Jadepelt. "Ignore her." He rubbed his muzzle along her flank. "What do you want to do first thing as a warrior?" He asked, twining his tail with hers.

  • "Sounds like a plan." He meowed.

    (Many moons later)
Rainfur and Mouseclaw shot through the forest in search of prey.

  • Mouseclaw raced along with Rainfur, gaining speed on him until they were neck and neck.

  • Rainfur purred as she tried to pass him. Suddenly he skidded to a halt. "I smell Lightclan." Rainfur started towards the border, pausing as he heard a faint mewling. He ran ahead, then saw a female she- cat, carrying a small kit. He ran to her side and sniffed. It was Lightclan for sure, tainted with herbs. "What are you doing on Stormclan territory?" He asked as he felt Mouseclaw behind him. The kit was obviously just born, still wet. There was pain in the she-cat's gaze that Rainfur couldn't ignore. "Please, I'm the medicine cat of Lightclan, I come in peace. I only ask that you take my kit." She meowed with a voice throbbing with sorrow. "I cannot take your kit from you." He meowed, knowing the pain it would bring the she-cat. "Please take her, my clan must not find out." She set the she-kit down and ran, before Rainfur could catch her. He turned to Mouseclaw. "We could make it our kit. I see your belly swelling, and I know it isn't from prey. So is it true? Do we really have two kits now?" He looked at the sleek black she-kit on the ground and brought her closer, trying to warm her. He looked back up at the beautiful she-cat above him. "So do we?"

  • Mouseclaw nodded, "Yes I am expecting your kits, and soon. We can take her, I'll have milk for her, and she can grow to be our own," she meowed softly. She curled her body around the new kit, "Until our's are born, one of the other queens can feed her. I'm sure Daisytail has milk left over," Mouseclaw meowed. She feared for the small kit. She didn't want the poor thing to die, she new if Sunstar found out he would throw her out for sure, but if the kit was hers...

  • "I'm glad I could be the father." He purred. He nuzzled her up and grabbed the small kit in his jaws. "So, what will we tell Sunstar?" He mumbled around the kit.

  • "We can't tell him that the medicine cat of LightClan left it, we will say that it was abandon by it's mother and the mother is long gone," Mouseclaw meowed, "Sunstar would bring the poor thing back if he found out and who knows what LightClan would do to the kit and the mother." She nuzzled the small kit gently, the kit mewed in protest and squirmed in Rainfur's jaws.

  • Rainfur nodded, then started padding to camp with Mousecaw by his side. He walked into camp and heard a few gasps from his clan mates, but continued toward the nursery, Mouseclaw hard on his paws.

  • Once in the nursery, Mouseclaw laid down in a nest. One of the older queens padded over to her and sniffed her fur, "You are expecting kits." She purred delightfully. Mouseclaw nodded.

  • Rainfur set down the black kit in the curve of his mate's belly. He curled around her. "What should we name her?" He asked, purring. He looked down at the she-kit, her closed eyes showing she was still born.

  • Mouseclaw nosed the small kit. She thought for a moment. "I think we should call her...." she paused, "Shadekit," she mewed finally.

  • "Perfect." He purred. He looked at the small black she-cat, licking a tuft of fur that was sticking up on her head.

  • Shadekit started to squirm and meow in protest as she blindly crawled around the nest.

  • Rainfur caught the little kit with his paw. He purred as she started churning her paws in midair. He licked Mouseclaw's cheek, looking at his new daughter. There was a sudden wail outside and he got up. That's when he saw it, a bloody lifeless body in the middle of camp. He raced over to his mother, the cat who had wailed. He looked down and tears came pouring out of his eyes as, he too, let out a low mournful wail. It was his father's body. He looked at the bloody and bruised cats beside him. "Who or what did this." He demanded. Snowfire stepped forward. "It was Tank, he..he..he's a dark forest cat now." She whispered, the rouge's name rang in his ears as he heard of the cat who had attempted to steal him when he was a kit. His sister, Roseheart, dropped beside him and he did the same, pushing his nose into the bloody fur. Sunstar stepped towards Rainfur, but seemed to change his mind an let him grieve.

  • Mouseclaw poked her head outside the nursery, but quickly drew it back in upon seeing the dead body of Rainfur's father. She curled her body around Shadekit, her tail drawing the small kit closer to her. She had heard the tom's name ring through the camp. Tank... She knew that name, just didn't know where or who. She shook her head, hopping to clear it and gave Shadekit a comforting lick. The small kit's wails died down as she cuddled into Mouseclaw's fur.

  • Rainfur sat there, his bones aching, but he couldn't move. Him, Roseheart, and Fernpelt sat by the lifeless body. Sunstar nudged him, letting him know it was time to bury Soaringwhisker. He blindly picked up his father, making his way out of camp. He lay his father by the deep hole and groomed his pelt. After his pelt looked smooth and sleek, he grabbed his father's scruff and lay him gently into the hole. He filled it with dirt and made his way back to camp, feeling his father's spirit wrap around him. He savored it while it lasted, then felt the soft pelt disappear. He straightened as Sunstar waved him towards his den, sitting in a corner of the dark cave. "You have a true warrior's spirit and I admire you, you grieve for your father, yet you stay strong for the clan's sake. I would like you to take two of our finest warriors and go find the monster who did this. I know you can't kill him, but give a few scratches that he won't forget in a hurry." He meowed. "I'm sorry sir, but if I go, I will go alone, I will not risk anymore warriors."

  • Mouseclaw nuzzled Shadekit, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She yelped. Daisyfur glanced at her and let out a soft gasp. "Your kits are coming," she meowed proudly. She then turned to the other queen, Moonglow, "Go get the medicine cat," she meowed firmly. She shoved a stick towards Mouseclaw. Mouseclaw took it in her jaws as Daisyfur plucked Shadekit from the nest and placed her into the nest beside Mouseclaw. Mouseclaw took the stick in her jaws and bite down on it hard, letting out a painful yowl that rang through the camp.

After what seemed like forever, two small kits laid in the nest. She beamed down proudly at them. One was a dark grey tabby tom, resembling his father. The other was a brown and white she-cat. Shadekit was placed back in the nest with the others. The three kits nuzzled against Mouseclaw's stomach. They purred as they filled their small bellies. Daisyfur turned to her, "What are you going to name them?" she asked. Mouseclaw thought for a moment, "This one," she said nosing the grey tom "I'll call Stonekit, the other will be called Heatherkit," she meowed proudly. "Shadekit, Stonekit, and Heatherkit," Daisyfur purred. "Rainfur will be so proud."
