  • [font=times new roman]Tynan glanced over at her, staring for a while. He felt a smile creeping onto his features, and suddenly he felt at home. It hadn't taken him long to realize that even though he hadn't known this girl long, he had gotten to know her, and trust her, and enjoy her company enough to call her his new home. Where ever she was, he knew he would feel safe. His old home wasn't a home to begin with. He felt a fuzzy feeling in his stomach and he hugged himself in his jacket to keep the chills from dancing up his spine. He looked up at the cab driver and said quietly, "I'm sorry I was being so loud, sir." To which he responded,

"It's all right, boy. You two are an interesting couple o' kids. I hope ya do learn more about America, because you seem an all right guy in the head so far. Hell, I've only known you about an hour and I think so. Even though your yammering was a pain in my ass, I've gotta say, you're not gonna suck." With that, he took a few more turns and shut his mouth again. Tynan smiled. He assumed 'not sucking' at something meant being good at it, so he was glad he had made another friend.

"I don't suck," I murmured proudly, puffing out his chest and looking out the window.

  • After about five minutes, Joey finally managed to slip into a light doze--not that it would do too much good, since she would be home in a few minutes. Still, sleep was sleep.

She shifted slightly in her sleep, obviously unable to get comfortable in the small cab. At one point, she lay with her head resting against the window; a few moments later, she was laying back against the seat, and then, somehow, she was leaning forward with her head resting against the back of the cab driver's seat.

As the driver rounded a curb, her body slid sideways towards Tynan, and she ended up pressed against his side. The movement roused her momentarily, but she had drifted off again within mere seconds. Seeing this display now, it was a wonder she had managed to stay awake for so long before.

  • [font=times new roman]Tynan felt his face get extremely hot, but he didn't want to shift her body so he just sort of leaned further against the wall, unsure of what to do. If he tried to inch away and she woke up, she would be offended. If the driver woke her up too early, she would be embarrassed. Maybe if he fell asleep too, things would be easier. So, resting his head on the rough, scaley side of windowsill. He shut his eyelids, feeling his eyeballs flit around under his eyelids. He calmed himself, breathing in deeply and trying to imagine something interesting. Darkness engulfed him, and suddenly he was asleep. He was conscious enough to wake if someone roused him, but he was asleep enough to energize him when he awoke.

  • After being tossed across the cab and against Tynan's side, Joey stopped her incessant shifting. She wasn't consciously aware of exactly what she was leaning against, but it was soft, warm, and she was much more comfortable than she had been in any of her earlier positions, so she kept still. By the time the cab made it to her house, Joey had managed to get a solid seven minutes of sleep, just enough to leave her yearning for more when she woke up.

"Hey, kids. Wake up. I'm chargin' by the minute here," the cabber grunted as he pulled to a stop in front of Joey's house, glancing back at Tynan and Joey's sleeping forms. He let out an irritated huff when the two snoozed on.

"Come on now, I'm on a schedule. You don't think I need sleep, too?" Again, no response. Finally, left without any other option, the man reached back and placed a firm hand on Joey's shoulder, giving her a rough shake. She blinked awake, slowly sitting up and staring at the cabber in confusion, her mind a bit fogged by the seven minutes of sleep she had gotten.

"Yeah?" She said simply, her mind having not processed her surroundings quite yet.

"Don't play games with me, kid. Come on, time to go." He tapped on the face of his watch in an annoyed manner. "Pay up and get goin'." Joey stared at him with a blank express, as if she wasn't sure what he was saying. Finally, realization swept over her.

"Oh...um, sorry," she mumbled around a yawn, digging through her pocket for the money to pay the man, at the same time trying to keep her eyes open. Once she handed him the money she glanced over at Tynan. It took her a moment to notice how close they were, and when she did, she simply looked a little puzzled, still somewhat numbed by sleep.

"Tynan?" She nudged him in the side. "We're here."

  • [font=times new roman]"I'm---awake," He grumbled, sitting up quickly and running his fingers through his hair, even though a few little pieces were sticking up astray. He blinked a few times and opened up the door, stepping out and stretching his long legs until he was stood up in front of the house. His vision was completely black due to the blood rushing to his head so fast, and he shook his head a few times to make it go away. He stood, waiting for her.

"So," He murmured, "Do I have to be a rat again?"

  • Joey climbed out of the cab behind him, letting out another yawn and stretching her arms up above her head as if she had just woken up from a long, restful sleep.

"A rat?" She began the trek up to her front porch, frowning slightly as she puzzled over Tynan's question. She walked slowly, her feet dragging as she attempted to carry her weight without falling over.

Did he just ask me if he could be a rat?

She racked her mind for any logical reason why he might have just asked her that. Suddenly, she seemed to snap out of her daze and remember the situation at hand. Panic stabbed at her senses. She'd gotten so distracted by the day's events that she had completely forgotten about the fact that she was hiding Tynan in her house.

"Maybe not....First, let's worry about getting you inside," she said in a hushed voice, as if her parents might be standing outside, listening. She pulled out her key and pushed it into the lock, turning it as slowly as possible until she heard a click. Then, she slowly pushed open the door, wincing at the smallest creak.

"Don't make a sound," she instructed him, gesturing for him to follow as she disappeared behind the door.

  • [font=times new roman]OOC: I'm gonna head off for the night ^^" I'll write ya a reply sometime tomorrow, I'm just super tired x3

  • ooc;; mkay, cya later~ x3

  • [font=times new roman]Tynan followed closely behind her, holding his hand over his mouth and breathing quietly through his nose. He waited for her to continue walking, looking around with wild, nervous eyes. He heard a creak from upstairs, and he could have sworn he heard a voice, but he couldn't be too sure. Tynan's eyes quickly flashed to Joey's, and his eyebrows creased in fear.

  • Joey slowly made her way towards the stairs, feeling her way around in the dark--she wouldn't dare risk turning on the light. She swore under her breath as she nearly tripped over the stairs, quickly regaining her balance and pausing for a moment to be sure no one had heard her. Finally, she began to painstaking trip up the stairs, wincing at every creak of the floorboards. Every few steps, she stopped to listen for the sounds of talking or footsteps. Miraculously, she finally managed to make it to the top of the stairs without incident. Her room was just at the end of the hall, but from where she was standing, that short walk looked like miles. She glanced back to make sure Tynan was alright. Alarm immediately began to stab at her senses when she didn't see him; however, she soon relaxed.

It's dark. I'm tired. He's probably right behind me, she reassured herself. She didn't dare call out to him so close to her parents' room for fear of being heard.

  • [font=times new roman]Tynan did the same as her, watching her steps carefully and mimicking them to the best of his ability. Finally, when he felt he had reached the creaky step, he decided to skip over it. Using his longish legs, he skipped over it and managed to maneuver himself above it. He smiled at himself and turned to praise himself, but he ended up tumbling backwards down the stairs and landing not-so-gracefully at around the third step. Attempting to shake the pain out of his head, he rubbed his forehead vigorously and turned his head left and right to crack his neck muscles.

When he finally realized that, wow, that wasn't a dream, he immediately rolled into a hiding spot due to the loud noise he had made.

"Stay upstairs," He whispered to Joey from his hiding place, staying where he was just in case he had woken anyone.

  • Joey prepared to make a run for her room, when a terribly loud thud made her freeze in her steps. She whirled around, searching the darkness with wide eyes. Finally, her gaze rested on a dark, huddled mass just at the bottom of the stairs, which quickly fled from view. She could feel her heart begin to race as she heard Tynan's voice, dread filling her entire body.

"What are you doing?!" She demanded as quietly as she could. "Come on, we have to get--"

She stopped short as a startlingly bright light illuminated the darkness, momentarily blinding her. She swung around to find herself face to face with her older brother, who gazed down at her with a questioning gaze. He didn't look as if he had been sleeping. He had to have heard the noise.

"Who are you talking to?" He asked in almost a bored tone, his eyes lazily scanning the area just over her shoulder. She gaped at him, still shaken by his surprise approach. After a few moments he looked back down at his sister, raising a questioning brow.

"No one," she said, quickly regaining her composure. "Myself. I was talking to myself."

He continued to stare at her in a bored, dazed, and questioning manner, as if he had nothing better to do than stand there and pointlessly question his sister. A few moments of silence went by, and Joey began to grow restless. She knew that her brother wasn't truly suspicious--he was just toying with her, purely out of boredom. Still, she didn't want to give him reason to be suspicious. She felt cornered, and she knew that she had to get out of this somehow.

"Look, I'm tired. I'm gonna go--"

    "Where have you been?"

    Joey blinked. "What?"

"It's late. You obviously just got back," he said, nodding towards the front door. "Staying out past curfew, are we?" He shook his head. "Naughty naughty," he said in a mocking tone.

Joey scowled at her brother. "Like you've never stayed out past curfew. It's none of your business where I've been. Now if you'll excuse me, I want to get some sleep." She shoved past him before he could continue to entertain himself at her expense, making a point to stomp to her room and slam the door shut. As soon as she had gotten in, she was once again racked by panic, and she leaned against the door, pressing her ear to it. Her brother wouldn't just stand aimlessly in the middle of the hall--he would go back to his room, right? Wherever Tynan had hidden, she prayed to god that it was somewhere good.

  • [font=times new roman]Whilst all of this was happening, Tynan had used the last of his mental energy to transform himself into a small gray cat. He hopped up the stairs, looking around for her and quickly following the scent to her room. Using his paw, he scratched on the door multiple times. "Joey!" He whispered, trying not to be too loud just in case. He flicked his little cat ears frustratedly, upset with himself for being so clumsy in his human body.

  • Joey remained at her spot by the door, listening intently for the smallest sound. Anxiety clawed at her stomach. She hadn't yet heard her brother's footsteps recede--could he still possibly be standing outside? She couldn't stand sitting here waiting for something to happen. For the second time that night, she felt utterly helpless.

And then, she heard the scratching. Startled, she jumped away from the door, staring at it with wide eyes. It wasn't until she heard the familiar voice of Tynan that she began to relax. Somehow, he had managed to make it past her brother unseen. She frowned slightly. How in the hell had he made it past her brother unseen? And then, once again, she was flooded with alarm. What if he hadn't?

"Hey Joey! I thought you were done bringing strange creatures into the house?"

Her heart dropped when she heard her brother's voice outside her door. Something about what he said caused her to panic. Strange creatures? What was that supposed to mean? She wasn't sure why Tynan would have any reason to shift into his demon form. But what if...? She bolted to the door and flung it open, prepared for the worst; which is why the sight of her brother standing there, holding a small gray cat and grinning contentedly, threw her off guard.

"So where did you find this one, huh? At the park?" He held the cat up in the air, as if examining it. "Did you steal him off of a homeless man?" Joey simply stared. The only thing she felt now was confused. She was sure she had heard Tynan's voice--where was he? And where the hell had this cat come from? She looked from her brother to the cat, unsure of how to process the situation at hand. That's when she noticed the cat's eyes; a deep hazel, speckled with flecks of brown.

    Tynan!

"Why don't you go back to your room and do whatever it was you were doing before I got here," Joey snapped, reaching out and snatching the cat from his grasp. Without another word, she stepped back and slammed her door shut. Once it was closed, she collapsed against it, letting out a breath. At this point, she didn't think she could get to sleep if she tried. She had never before felt so much fear and anxiety and panic in one night.

  • [font=times new roman]Tynan did a little grin at her, purring slightly whilst in her brother's hands. "Stupid," He laughed quietly in English, but quiet enough for her brother probably not to have heard. He made a small yelping noise as Joey snatched him back, sighing and struggling in her hands to turn and look her in the eyes.

"Don't worry, I don't like my brother much either," He joked, "He's a bit more homicidal than yours, though."

  • Joey couldn't help but grin at Tynan's words.

"Wanna trade? I'd take homicidal any day over dopey and annoying over there," she muttered. She knelt down so that she could put him down. When she straightened back up, she couldn't hide the smile that had crossed her face.

"You know, you should be a cat more often," she remarked. Joey had always wanted a cat, but sadly, she was allergic. She wasn't deathly allergic or anything. Still, sneezing all the time and itching all over wasn't very fun. She would have even been happy for a dog, but her little sister was allergic to them, which was why Joey had resorted to taking care of small animals like rats.

  • [font=times new roman]"Why?" He called up to Joey, the girl towering so high over him that he almost fell backwards trying to look her in the eyes. "So I can't hug you? Guess what? I still can!" He playfully trotted up to her leg and wrapped himself around her ankle, careful not to stick his little cat claws in her leg. "Hah!" He laughed up to her, his tail flicking back and forth quickly.

  • Joey laughed at his little display, light-heartedly nudging him away with her foot.

"Adorable," she said sarcastically. She walked over to her bed, sitting down on the edge of it. "On second thought, never-mind. The whole talking cat thing is starting to get to me."

  • [font=times new roman]"Bad news," He said softly, "I either have to stay a cat or be a rat again, 'cause I left my clothes downstairs."

  • Joey smirked, shaking her head.

"All right. Cat it is." She let out a breath, falling back onto her bed. "At this rate, I've experienced enough 'weird' to last me for a lifetime. What's one more night?"
