  • [font=times new roman]OOC: I love how Michael makes fun of Ryan's capture of Edgar xD

"Jasiri!" Elspeth shouted, jumping up slightly in surprise and alarm, but then quickly slapping her hand over her mouth. She wasn't sure how close the bikers were, but they were likely able to hear her little yelp. "I have to get him somehow," She said, pacing blindly through the dark and scuffing up dirt. She snapped into reality and shook her head. "No, he's safe where he is. He can tend to himself until I find a way back to my shelter. I have food and water already set up for him, so he should be okay for a little while. We just have to wait it out, I guess."

  • ooc;; xDD #FreeEdgar2013

ic;; Mik nodded in acknowledgement, though he wasn't sure how effective this plan of 'waiting it out' was. What if those bandits decided to do the same thing? Mik was far from a pessimist, but it seemed as if they were trapped between a rock and a hard place.

"Where should we go? I don't think it would be wise to wait out here in the open like sitting ducks," he said quietly, frowning slightly.

  • [font=times new roman]"We can try to go around them, but there's bound to be more by now," Elspeth said darkly, "And unless you're prepared to take on 4-5 of them at once, I suggest we wait or find somewhere else to go."

  • Mik nodded, scanning his surroundings. Their only options, it seems, were to take their chances by heading back the way they came, simply wait for the bandits to go by and hope that they weren't found, or to wander aimlessly until they found some sort of shelter or civilization. As hopeless as the last option sounded, it also seemed like their best.

"Alright. Let's keep heading this way, then," he said, pointing directly ahead. We'll go for three miles, tops. If we haven't found anything by then, we can turn and start to backtrack. The bandits should be long gone, and we can retrieve Ja...Jasan...." he sighed, somewhat annoyed. "Your elephant."

  • Mik blinked, somewhat taken aback. He was used to being ordered around, not grabbing hold of the wheel and steering the ship. He certainly wasn't a pushover; he simply fared better when he didn't have responsibility resting on his shoulders. What if he led the two of them directly into an ambush, or off the edge of a cliff? He wouldn't be able to live with himself if something like that happened under his guidance.

"Er... Well, actually..." He gave her a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'm sure you know the area better...." He awkwardly trailed off, gesturing for her to go on ahead."

  • [font=times new roman]She smiled, and silently began to walk forward, making sure to make noises with her feet to make sure he could hear her if he lost sight of her. "Y'know," She said, trying to make conversation, "My grandfather used to live with tigers."

  • Mik smiled slightly as she took lead, following a few paces behind her. He stared at the ground as they walked--he couldn't really see for more than five feet in front of him in either direction, so what was the point of looking at his surroundings?

He looked up only when Elspeth spoke, blinking at her sudden, seemingly random statement.

"Tigers?" The absolute absurdity of her remark almost made him laugh, but somehow he felt that that wouldn't be quite appropriate. Anyway, he couldn't help but feel a bit curious. "Was he some kind of...wildlife researcher?"

  • [font=times new roman]"Maybe that's what they're called in America," She said, continuing along the path. "But where I'm from, he's just a man who likes animals. He builds trust and keeps them safe. That's a big reason why I have Jasiri."

  • Mik blinked, surprised by her comment.

"Where...exactly are you from?" He asked, sounding somewhat unsure of himself. He hadn't heard of anyone who could form intimate bonds with...well, tigers. An elephant was one thing, but a big ferocious cat who could practically swallow you whole? He shuddered at the thought.

  • [font=times new roman]"I'm from a small tribe in Asia," She said proudly, taking in a boasting breath. "I'm sure exactly where, I never learned to read, mind you- so I couldn't go back even if I wanted to."

  • Mik smiled at her bragging tone, tilting his head slightly at her words.

"A tribe? You mean, like...." he glanced down at his feet for a moment, racking his mind. "Indians?" He looked at her as if she had just made some sort of life-altering revelation. "You're a Native American? Er...Native Asian?"

In only a brief matter of time, he found himself more fascinated about her than he had been about anyone else in a long time. He was completely distracted from the days' events, and right now, all he wanted was to know everything there was to know about her, her life, her culture....Everything.

  • [font=times new roman]"My grandfather," She began, taking in a deep breath of chilly night air, "He taught me everything I know. From learning how to make a dart shooter out of bamboo to healing a wound. He was a much better mentor than my father ever was, but I cannot speak ill of the dead." She did a little pattern on her chest and blinked guiltily up at the moon.

  • Mike listened with vague interest, watching the ground as he walked. He glanced up at her final words about her father, feeling a stab of sympathy for the girl. He couldn't help but wonder whether knowing that your parents were dead was a better or worse feeling than not knowing what had happened to them at all. Would it be easier to spend an eternity wondering where your loved ones might be, or wishing they weren't dead?

"How did you end up here?" He asked, gazing at her. He could see her more clearly now that the moonlight washed over them, and watching her was a little more satisfying than staring at a bunch of dirt. "In America. Er, in this place. Alone...." he trailed off, searching for the words. "What exactly happened to your family?" He asked tentatively. He wasn't sure how sensitive she was about the topic, so he did his best to tread carefully.

  • ooc;; sure thing! So far, the two characters that have been introduced are an American boy named Mik and a young girl named Elspeth, who came from a small tribe in Northern Asia. Pretty much right after they met, they were discovered by two bandits who seem to be searching for Elspeth. Right now they're on the run from them. They plan on walking for a while before circling back to retrieve Jasiri, Elspeth's baby elephant whom she had to leave behind when she fled.

  • [font=times new roman]OOC: Heck yes! Welcome :)

IC: Elspeth glanced behind her and smiled. "Walked for 4 miles until I reached a small port where I live," She explained, "Then a camp of refugees took me in. They kept me and Jasiri fed for a while, and then finally all of us took a boat here. I'm not sure where they went after that. 'Guess I wasn't wanted with them to begin with, because soon as they were here they were gone. Hell if I know anything about their whereabouts. They're probably dead already, to be honest. They weren't very smart and had three or four children to feed before themselves." Elspeth didn't seem pained at all by this past of hers, and that was mostly because it was the past. She knew there was no use dwelling on it.

"Those children," She laughed to herself, shaking her head, "Jasiri took a liking to 'em. He'd keep them warm'n'such. They also liked to play with his ears and ride him around, but after a while the poor thing got seasick. Boat ride lasted about 30 days, I think, but I nobody was counting." She glanced back at him, curiosity and wonder swirling alongside one another in her gaze. She wondered why he was asking, but she wasn't suspicious. She was just kind of happy someone wanted her to talk. She hadn't had real human communication since the boat ride over here, but even that wasn't much because her English was still bad at the time.

  • Mik cast her a questioning look as she spoke. He hadn't expected her to speak with such dismissiveness when touching on the topic of what might have become of her parents; then again, he also hadn't expected to meet a tribal girl who just happened to own an elephant on his way to fetch a bucket of water. The day had just been packed full of surprises, it seemed.

"So you had--have--brothers and sisters?" He asked. His legs had begun to grow tired and his eyes shone with exhaustion . He was happy to talk and even happier to listen to what Elspeth had to say, but by this point, he was mainly talking to keep himself distracted from the walking they were doing. When he had left camp to head for the docks, he had been prepared for a two-mile trek at most, and would have gone right to sleep upon return; however, sleep seemed years away now, and he was running on empty.

  • [font=times new roman]Elspeth laughed mockingly. "I wish!" She nearly shouted, but noticed his silhouette's posture in the dim light of the moon and forced herself quiet. "We should stop soon," She murmured, "We can't go too far and end up lost in the morning."
