• I make a lot of threads in the Help Den, don't I? :P

Does it annoy you when people constantly put HPR in the titles of their adoption/plot/roleplay threads, or block out cats that aren't related to high positions from threads of plotting, etc.? I think it bothersome to find that characters who could possibly be extremely developed and well-thought out are being blocked from plots, threads etc. simply because they don't have relations to high positions, but I don't really mind HPR in thread titles.

I'm curious about your opinions - what do you think? I don't think simply having HPR cats or being proud of them is that bad - I have a few of my own and I even sometimes enjoy placing in a form for an adoption. I used to be all over adoptions - now I'm more interested in simply developing my characters, I'm not at all worried about who their parents/relatives are. ^^ I bet one of my characters has a father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roomate xD

  • It does bother me, I never block out them, for example I would only say. "Hpr reccomended" not "Hpr only" if the character is well thought out, then I definitely chose them. When I rp my characters its not like I say "The daughter of Permafrost walked around, then she did whatever, the daughter of.."
I usually only say the daughter/son of... is when I think I am using the characters name, she/he, or his/her appearance too much, not often.

  • Why do you recommend it on the thread? I understand that you'll accept a well thought out character.

And I rarely say "Lullaby is the daughter of Kita and Jhock" or something like that while posting - it's more what she does than who are her parents when I post. But I do think saying someone is the child of x and y is a relatively harmless addition to a post unless it's said in the beginning of every single sentence - The daughter of x and y walked around. The daughter of x and y sat down. The daughter of x and y ate a mouse, for example.

Its my way of saying that it would be cool. But I'm not really picky, so if it is a g1 cat, I'm like, "Ok! I'll make the thread!"

really I don't even wait, the first one to apply can do whatever the thread is there for xDD

  • Yeah it does, especially when people have those mate threads for only hprs, pretty much anything like that. Even more so when trying to get an apprentice I've seen, blank needs a hpr mentor! It's really annoying. :(

  • What bothers me is that people find it so important. I don't give a damn who your character is related to. :P Nor should anyone else because it doesn't determine the character's quality in the slightest.

That said, I will admit that I have a preference toward cats with well-known and therefore usually lengthy relations. I prefer characters with a rich family history. Whether that character has a high position in their lineage shouldn't matter. Though, nowadays, it's difficult to find a cat with a history that doesn't include an HP. 90% of cats on the site are related to Cougarstar, lol.

  • I like having family trees - I have nothing against well-developed, lengthy history for characters. :3 I love to write out a cat's history, be it all from IC or have it be completely from scratch.

I understand 'hpr preferred', as I do that myself sometimes, but it's unfair to those members who want their non-hpr (or don't have one) to participate in something and then not be included for the simple fact they weren't related to any high position relations. I find it unfair and personally think it's better to at least give them an opportunity. I've had some of my cats have non-hpr mates/friends/whatever and they're just as good as hprs.

People can pride themselves in having hprs or whatever, but sometimes it goes over their head and they think because they have an hpr or more than some, it means they're special and that they have to have 'higher standards' of sorts. Not everyone is like this, but I've seen a few before.[/fancypost]

I like having cats that are directly related to a hp for plots involving their parents. Besides that, I don't really care. And does anyone besides me realize that hp relations are just so the children are hpr leading to their children being hpr . . . etc. There's really no point to it. xD Though one nice thing about having a hpr is that they have lots of family members they can roleplay with - grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. In the end, it isn't the relations that determine the character, however.

  • I HATE it when people say "HPR Only", or even had HPR in the thread's title. I mean, come ON people, who gives a rat's crap? Besides, we need more characters/kits who AREN'T HPR, there are too many HPRs!!!! >:( >:( >:(

  • I haven't run into any of thouse types of threads yet. But, really what does a HPR cat does for them? Maybe, maybe on very, very rare times they can get permoted by a HP by relation to the cat. I haven't seen it but, I think there might of been a time. But, really what is it with people with the HPR things.
My gen 1 cat got pemoted by being the best cat she could be not becouse she was HPR.

  • I don't think plots should be exclusive to HPRs unless there's a good, specific reason for it. I'm fine with adoption threads with HPR in the title because with so many threads it would take a while to look through each one to see the history and family, you know what I mean? And sometimes 'HPR' is implied by the names of the characters anyway.

I think that the pride of being related to Fluffystar or so and so can be a factor in your character's development. For example, Vectorshadow is an interesting character to look into. He is directly related to Gravelstar, and firmly believes that it is his bloodright to become leader. It's sort of a part of him, from what I've seen.

So all in all, if it really has importance in plot or character development then I think the HPR label is fine. But if not, then eh what's the real difference between the relative of Fluffystar and a non-HPR? I hope I made sense xD Let non-HPRs in there and see what happens.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px;]for me, when people put hpr in an adoption thread title, totally fine to me to be honest. though, when only high position related cats can plot with you, or can get into the thread, that's just plain rude and unfair. like honestly? back when i was new, how many high position related cats did i have? none. but i still roleplayed my cats; i didn't care they weren't related to thunderclan's very first leader or something like that. but yeah c:

  • i agree with all of you basically xD
my most developed chars are not hpr, so it's quite hard to get people to roleplay/get people involved with my chars, as usually they're only after hpr/hp characters. though what i have said just about is this topic it's self. <:

  • I think part of the reason people like it is because it makes the character more recognizable to anyone RPing with you -- it's not "oh, here is another cat my cat doesn't know", it's "oh, here's the leader's daughter, my cat would already know who this is and how to interact with her". Of course with more distant HPRs it becomes kind of pointless.

On the other hand, although having an HPR -- especially a distant HPR -- definitely doesn't guarantee an HP, it can seem like a surprising lot of HPs were HPR before they got their own position. RiverClan for example -- not so much now, but a few months ago (especially during Bearstar's time) -- was practically a dynasty. And nine of the Elite's current HPs (going by the guide, and not counting Arosa) are either Simul Stamuses themselves, or mates with a Simul Stamus cat. It's possible some of the people who exclusively want HPRs have noticed this trend and hope for an eventual HP.

  • [sub]
This does bother me sometimes, like, for example, if someone says in an adoption 'these are awesomely HPR kits, so apply for one!"

    Also, agreed with Clark.

I prefer non-HPR to HPR. Two of my characters aren't HPR, and I like them more than my only HPR one. :3
