Scarletkit sat outside the nursery, looking around for something to do. She had been very quiet since she had lost her mother, and didn't talk much to the other kits. At least she was almost six moons old. The scarlet colored she-cat continued to look, but with no luck. With a great sigh, she lied down, resting her head on her paws. It would be so much easier I had friends.

Chesskit walked up to the scarlet colored she-cat generally interested in why she looked so sad. "Hello!" said Chesskit in her usual off in another world voice. She twitched then meowed "What's troubling you?"

Otterkit left the nursery earlier to poke through the freshkill pile before everyone else cleaned it out. She searched for a particular kind prey - a fish that was big enough to fill her belly without being too big to eat in a single sitting. Specifically, she wanted a female fish, as the eggs were her favorite part of the meal. She had learned to tell the difference a month or two ago and was usually able to find what she wanted if it was in the pile at all to begin with.
Today seemed to be no exception. A carp noticeably wider than others of its kind caught her attention and she grabbed it up before heading to her favorite eating spot near the nursery. It was then she spotted Scarletkit, and - without thinking - she changed her plans, padding toward the slightly older she-cat. Her denmate seemed...sad, and she wanted to help if she could, even if someone else was already there trying to do the same.
As she neared the two, Otterkit dropped her fish and slid it toward Scarletkit. "Hungry? Tasty freshkill always cheers me up, and this is the best of the pile."

Scarletkit looked up at Chesskit. She had been so lost in her thoughts, she hadn't realized The other kit had walked up to her. A bit startled, and still sad, she looked back down. "Nothing, just.... not a lot to do around here I guess." she lied. Well, it wasn't exactly lying. True, she was bored, but that wasn't the only reason she was sad. But it was better not to trouble them.
The scarlet she-cat lifted her head once more and gazed at Otterkit, and then at the prey in her jaws. She hadn't realized how hungry she was. Her stomach rumbled as she replied, "Yes, thanks. It's the eggs, isn't it? They're the best." she moved over to make a spot for the slightly younger kit. Scarletkit motioned with her tail over to Chesskit. "Can she share too?" There was plenty for all three of them. She looked at Chesskit. "If you want."
