"The day I find my mate is the day I'll kill myself, I swear."

Those are the words I'm well known for, mainly because it's so appalling that any werewolf would ever utter them. Don't look at me like I've grown two heads, damn it; I'm perfectly normal! Anyways, there's something you should know about me: I'm the Alpha's daughter. Big shocker, I know; How could that perfectly well-mannered man create such a demonic spawn, cursing the pack and blah blah blah. That's all I hear. Apparently, being the Alpha's kid means you have to be a goddamned angel.
    Bitch, please.
I'm a good child...Most of the time. Look, let's just get straight to the point: There have been some complications within the pack, causing me to take lead. Yeah, I’m the first ever female Alpha in the world. It doesn't help that my pack's the second largest in North America, either; So many wolves to keep track of. Anyways, the reason for my saying is the fact that having a mate will only complicate things for me; yet, some things just can't be ignored, such as the ever-rising threat from my pack's greatest enemy.
    Shoot.
    Me.
    Now.

The metallic smell of blood filled my nostrils, making my stomach churn with disgust. The mauled body of my father lay before me, his entrails strewn across the forest floor. Simultaneous whimpers reached my ears from a few feet behind me and I whirled around, my eyes widening in surprise as I spotted the Valdez twins kneeling next to a nearby Oak, looking at me with identical wide, doe-like blue eyes as they held each other tightly, gazes darting between me and my father's corpse
"I-I-Is he finally d-d-dead, Bliss?" Andrea cast her glistening blue eyes on me. Swallowing the bile that rose in my throat, I nodded and held out my arms, tears pricking the corners of my eyes as the girls ran towards me, almost knocking me backwards with their force. Wrapping my arms tightly around them, I held them as they cried. These were tears of joy, this I knew for certain. Why, you ask? Well, my father wasn't exactly a fatherly figure to these two girls. Andrea and her twin, Catalea, were orphans of the only two omegas in our pack. My father had grown angry with their parents for not training the younger wolves properly (which, in his case, was rough) and killed them, momentarily forgetting that they had two daughters to look after. Andrea and Catalea have been living with my father and I ever since. He'd said he didn't want that filth in his house and we had an argument that I swear could be heard from our house all the way to Black Tide territory.
Once he'd finally agreed, realizing I was being a stubborn mule and wasn't going to budge, he allowed them to stay. I considered them my daughters even though we weren't related by blood. Then the twins told me something that led me to this situation: my father had been sexually and physically abusing them for the three years they'd been with us. I'd been furious with him; how could he do that to my girls, my babies? I'd also been furious with myself for not catching on sooner; it was obvious, the way they flinched every time he gave them a hug before sending them off to school.
Stupid! I'd been so stupid! My father wouldn't have ever done this if my mother was still here, but she'd been killed from a sickness that swept through our pack like a wildfire, along with my unborn baby brother. Losing a mate sent a wolf into a state of grieving, but for Alphas that wasn't always the case. There were two things us Alphas did; we either killed ourselves or became an abusive tyrant. My father, sadly, became the latter. Blood or not, no one hurts my girls.

I was yanked out of my thoughts by a voice in my head urgently calling my name. Bliss...Bliss...Bliss...Bliss, answer me this instant! I cringed, my grip on the girls loosening as they pulled away from me, hiccupping as they wiped the tears from their eyes. I gave them a small yet sad smile and they did the same, chuckling as I let out an annoyed groan as the voice intruded yet again.
Damn it, Jace, what in the h-e-double hockey sticks do you want!? I instantly regretted yelling at my best friend, knowing he was only worried for my well-being. We'd been best friends since we were in diapers; I'd had a crush on him in freshmen year, but now my eighteen year old self just constantly wondered how I could ever think of him in that way.
I'm sorry, Bliss. I was just worried when I saw you storm out of the house earlier. Where are you, anyways? His voice sounded apologetic and I mentally sighed, becoming annoyed when he chuckled.
I'm in the forest with the girls. I've got a mess to clean up. I told him, my voice clipped, as I looked around at the scene before me. You can't ever hide a body from werewolves; the blood was always too strong for us to ignore. I'd just throw his worthless, scum-bag body in the river. He didn't deserve a proper burial like my mother had received.
Mess? Oh no, what did you do, Bliss? Please tell me you didn't kill a trespassing Black Tide member again. He groaned, causing me to chuckle. I'd only killed two Black Tide members because they'd had no right coming on my pack's territory; Filthy, heartless, soulless pieces of crap.
Worse. I killed Alpha Jason. With that I clipped off our mind link, not wanting to hear his outrage, and began cleaning up my mess. I'd explain everything properly once I got back home.

"Do you realize the danger you've put yourself in? How stupid can you get, Bliss? Jackson's gonna’' have your head for this, man. Shit, the entire pack is gonna' have your head for this," Jace ranted, pacing back and forth as I sat on the couch, the girls huddled up on either side of me. He'd been like this for an hour or two and, despite my wolf growling for him to shut up, I let him go on. He was right, of course. Jackson, my father's Beta, was gonna’ kill me without a doubt. Or torture me and let the pack finish me off. Jeez, just thinking about that scenario made me shiver. Sighing, I shifted to stand up before Jace growled at me, giving me a stern glare.
"Sit back down, Bliss. We need to figure -" I cut him off with a low growl, my anger slowly surfacing. I'd consider myself a normally calm and sweet girl, but my wolf was getting increasingly annoyed by him thinking he could control me. Did he forget who I was? What kind of blood flowed through my veins?

"Jace, shut up!" I snapped, causing the girls to whimper in fear and Jace to stare at me, dark brown eyes wide with shock. My own eyes widened in shock as well; I'd just used an Alpha tone on my best friend. Closing my eyes, I took a few deep breaths before opening my eyes and staring into those chocolate brown pools of his.
"Look, Jace, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to Alpha-tone you. But please, will you let me explain?" I gave him my puppy dog face, something he couldn't ignore, and smiled once he rolled his eyes and took my spot between the girls.
"You know me, Jace. I couldn't hurt a fly, but Dad..." I broke and shook my head, motioning for the girls to go upstairs. Nodding, they leaped off the couch and scurried up the steps, stopping at the top to look back at me with sad eyes before continuing on their way to our shared room. I swallowed back the lump in my throat and looked down at my feet, biting my lip as I whispered, "He raped them, Jace." Those words were all it took for me to break down and fall to my knees, cursing myself for not being there to protect them. In an instant he was by my side, wrapping his arms around me as I cried into his chest.
"I wasn't there to protect them, J. When they told me, all I saw was red. I couldn't stop myself," I told him through my sobbing, although he silenced me, rubbing my back in a calming manner. He didn't ask me anything more because I know he would've done the same thing. Beneath his calm facade I could literally feel the anger coming off him in waves. After a few moments passed by, I pulled away from Jace and wiped my face clean of any stray tears.

Jace got to his feet, extending a hand and pulling me up, our eyes locking. I could see his thoughts clearly and I agreed with him, no matter how much I dreaded this idea.
"I know, I know," I grumbled, turning away from him and heading upstairs.
"Where are you going? The clearing's that way," Jace pointed out, beginning to follow me. Rolling my eyes, I turned back towards him and began walking up the stairs backwards. Boy, was I talented or what?
"I gotta’ tell the girls to stay put. Call the pack for a meeting." That last part was an order. Nodding, he turned and headed out as I made my way to the top of the stairs, turning left and heading into our room.

Crossing my arms over my chest, I leaned against the door frame and raised my eyes at the girls, who were jumping on the bed and giggling like madwomen. Once they spotted me, they stopped jumping and immediately sat down, giving me the sweetest of smiles and widening their eyes in innocence. Rolling my eyes, I was glad they were getting over what they'd seen so quickly.
"I'm holding a pack meeting. I'll be back in a few, so stay out of trouble until then," I told them, giving them a stern look. They nodded and bounced off the bed, running up and hugging me. I wrapped my arms around them, warmth flooding through my body as they simultaneously uttered, "I love you, Mama." My heart melted at the words and I squeezed them even tighter than before, chuckling when they started whining about being suffocated.
"Love you too, guys. Remember: Stay out of trouble." They nodded and, after a moment of looking at them, I released them and left the room, closing the door behind me. I closed my eyes and let out a sigh, dreading the meeting. Well, time to face the music.

"She did what!?" I flinched at the harsh, angered voice of my father's - now my - Beta as I entered the forest clearing. Feeling my presence, all eyes turned on me. I could tell he hadn't told any of them of what'd I'd done, but he'd obviously told Jackson in private.
"Bliss, come here!" Jackson's voice reached my ears, causing me to cringe and my wolf to growl in anger. How dare he order us around! I'll kill him for his disobedience! I could see where she was coming from, but I quickly silenced her and made my way towards the front of the group, bowing my head in the presence of Jackson. Let me tell you, turning my head to face the ground was the hardest thing to do in my life, but I managed to get it done after arguing with my wolf for a moment. She was still growling in annoyance, but I managed to ignore her as I lifted my head back up, ready to face Jackson's wrath. Instead of seeing him, standing before me was a snarling gray wolf.
"Bliss, move!" Jace yelled, his voice laced in fear as Jackson's wolf made a leap towards me. Pft, he oughta' know me by now. An Alpha never backs down.
