The waterbender felt her lungs start to shiver as they fought on whether to exhale or inhale – which supplied oxygen again? She couldn’t remember. Her body seemed to be as still as ice, but energy thrummed within her core; she couldn’t move, she couldn’t let it out. Now she suddenly realized that the situation demanded that she make rapid decisions, and the waterbender knew that was not one of her strong points. She needed time to think these things through, but that was not a luxury to be given to her. As she watched the anti-benders crawl and smother everything in their way, the teenager felt the weight of the world crash upon her shoulders. How could she do anything against them…?

And then there was a break in the madness, a bit of sanity creeping back in. Her blue-silver gaze darted to the hand being grasped, following the wrist of Aurio all the way to his face. Now, there was a determined fighter, his face set in determination. She could be like that, surely? They could defend each other, right? But I’m not strong enough, she told herself, gritting her teeth in aggravation. I’ll never be strong enough; there’s a reason why my teammates pulled away from me, there’s a reason why I didn’t join the military like my entire family wished….

Thousands of sentences flowed through that mind of hers like liquid arsenic, killing and destroying. She was a disgrace to her ancestors. While they defended the Northern Water Tribe from the invasion of the Fire Nation on her mother’s side, they protected the Southern Tribe when all the benders were gone on her mother’s, her uncle joined to fight even without bending, her grandfather remembered fighting alongside Avatar Aang on the day of the Eclipse… she wouldn’t even be able to defend herself against a bunch of terrorists. Instead, she’d have to rely on Aurio. But even at this sorrowful thought, her eyes couldn’t bring themselves to weep for her life; she could at least fight with honour.

Aglaope half expected Aurio to pull away then, off to fight the battle she never could. He couldn’t possible trust her to bend alongside him – even if they weren’t enemies, who was she to say anything about loyalty? She was a traitor to her own team, her own friends for the sword’s sake! Even if he didn’t know, her aura must be that of disloyalty, warning all that she was not to be trusted. That was the truth, wasn’t it? So what if she could actual bend and defend – she couldn’t even tell who was the enemy half the time. I’m doomed to lose before we begin, she whispered to herself, limbs turning cold as she started to sweat with anxiety. Please, Aurio, save yourself and leave me to rot in the hell I deserve! she added hysterically, feeling everything start to slip away now. The fringes of her vision were turning black; oh, was she to faint and prove her hopelessness beyond a shadow of a doubt? Somehow that seemed fitting, for the waterbender to drown in her own hopelessness.

Of course, she doubted her own ability – no sane person could be completely confident, cornered as she was in such a disastrous situation. She hadn’t been in a battle such as this, with the enemies crawling all around her with the sheer overwhelming numbers and invincibility that a cockroach infestation boasted. But now she remembered how to breathe, and her blue-silver gaze cleared slightly. After all, she was no yellow-bellied toddler on the battlefield. Even if she couldn’t even hope to hold her own, she’d put up a fight and allow Aurio to free his mind without having to protect her every second. But that brought down another crashing wave of hopelessness and guilt; why would he want to waste his energy fighting to protect her? The female felt as though she were chasing him in the manner of unrequited love, mistaking his friendship for something far greater than it was. Yes, they had a connection. Yes, he hesitated to attack her. Yes, he was more wonderful than any illusion she could ever come up with…. But was she the same to him?

The rather nervous waterbender opened her lips slightly to ask him this – if they both were ended here, she wanted to know this before she died – but something prevented her from speaking and answered her question all at once while being absolutely divine.

Suddenly feeling like a puddle of water, the pro-bender half-closed her eyes, her senses alight with the intensity of something unnamable, indescribable. Time stretched to the point where it was a standstill, allowing Aglaope to bask in the serenity of the moment, absorbing all the soothing glory and attention. Every worry fell to a dark abyss, never to be recovered. Her mind flew back together, fusing the pieces shattered from hysteria with no agony involved. Her fingers and toes twitched, the chill of uselessness vanquished as the warmth of life flowed back to them.

She realized then that something snapped within her chest – not just the heartbeat that sprang to life and pumped oxygen-rich blood to every cell in her body – an understanding that decimated every lie she previously believed. This was the perfect confirmation. No longer was she guessing and assuming what he and she felt. Surely, he loved her. And just as certainly (if not by a thousand times) she loved him. There was also no need to speak those sounds, either. She could feel it in her bones that he knew just as she did, that they were fighting for the same reason with the same drive and motivation.

They fought for each other, with each other.

No longer was Aglaope torn between her sense of loyalty and broken trust. She didn’t have to stand beside anyone she didn’t want to. The mental cuffs around her mind fell away just as freedom’s wings sprouted in her mind. How could friends be called such a thing when they weren’t yours? Fractured companionship didn’t matter; she had a much stronger pull to someone much more elegant in spirit. Impressing others didn’t matter in the slightest, and proving herself to those that never looked her way was never going to work.

For all this time, she fought for the wrong reason; now the right reason roared to life in her mind, healing phosphorous that banished all the arsenic with a touch. I’m still lost, I know… but I feel so much better. Atlas’s burden had been shrugged, and her very skin seemed to tingle with the wish to move and shine. She wouldn’t let anything hold her back now; not those that were once her friends, not the shackles of her mind, and certainly not what others commanded of her. And, right now, the enemy expected her to bow her head in fear and feel oh so overwhelmed. In situations like these, didn’t they fear an uprising? All it took was one.

She wasn’t scared. She wasn’t alone. And neither was Aurio. They could exit the world together tonight with clasped hands or tangle together in life.

With her mind healed and determination set in steel, the waterbender lifted her hands to Aurio’s face – she wouldn’t let them hang by her side to symbolize inaction. Just as her fingertips started to graze his skin, however, the firebender pulled away. Now time compressed back together, its pace resuming the celerity of which it had dropped; the teenager could have sworn that the stretch was hours long, but she innately knew that was not the case. It had to have been mere seconds at the most.

With a sigh as the lips separated, her cheeks flushed slightly at his words, though she already knew this. How wonderfully thrilling, she thought to herself, even as he abruptly pulled away. No longer insecure about what that meant, the waterbender shifted her gaze to protect his back. She didn’t want one of the endless goons to ruin his fight, especially with the weight of the finish upon his shoulders. He knew he didn’t have to say ‘I love you.’ Now, if only they could charge into the unknown with fingers laced together.

Her train of thought was cut off as minion1 slammed into her side, nearly knocking her off her feet and to the floor where a dog pile would have been the inevitable result. The chi blocker held up his gauntlet, its light making her limbs feel somehow heavy. But Aglaope didn’t care, didn’t mind anymore. She wouldn’t be intimidated by some bright lights!

As she swept her arms in a more than familiar motion to summon the water to smack into the fool who dared touch her, the waterbender’s blue-silver eyes widened in slight fear. Oh, yes, now she remembered. The ones with the glowy lights on their hands suppressed the bending ability of their opponents; though there didn’t seem to be an overabundance of them in the army, she supposed they numbered enough to make the police force attempting to fight back worry. Gritting her teeth, the teenager shifted her chin to the side before pulling it up, successfully popping a few of her neck muscles. The masked minon1 didn’t seem to be surprised by the movement, for he suddenly started launching hand to hand combat at her, seemingly with the goal of overwhelming her with the close combat blows. It would have been devastating to any fighter that relied on bending as heavily as a normal pro-bender.

But Aglaope was from a militarist family, one with a long ancestral line of living on after battles and surviving amongst chaos and the unexpected. And with her mind no longer scared to death, the teenager could employ all the skills she learned in a faster manner than normal, including the secrets kept within the bloodline. For example, her favorite uncle was a not a bender, but still a member of the army nothingless. He had learned from the ceremonial scrolls from his side of the family, and that knowledge was passed down to this waterbender and of this generation within her family.

Fighting was their life, their way of living and the only occupation they had known – short of the occasional shopkeeper or merchant that popped up. This waterbender was no exception; the genes for battle also happened to be rather insistent. Who was she to deny them?

Dodging the kick coming her way by diagonally advancing, the waterbender leaned back to avoid the hook punch – good thing too, for a duck would have put her right in place for the uppercut that just wized by her chin. Relaxing her jaw muscle, the waterbender straightened up and threw a punch of her own for retaliation. But minon1 anticipated that.

With a quick block, he stepped forward and curled his other arm inward. Instinctively knowing what was coming, the waterbender advanced as well, her forehead nearly touching his chin – but the elbow strike was avoided now that she was successfully inside his range, and the only thing she felt was his forearm annoyingly smack into her raised arm. Ah, yes, that uncle really was her favorite member of the family.

Her hands instantly clasped the back of his throat, and she pulled down as hard as she could, moving her right leg back just as she did so. Cradling his head to her shoulder, her left hand went to his chin and she started to rotate the skull. His spine started to twist, trying to compensate with the movement of the neck muscle. Letting go, the waterbender allowed the minion to collapse on the floor – still breathing, but completely out of it due to landing on the temple. The fact that the arena had a frustratingly unyielding floor probably didn’t help the situation.

Now that was over, the waterbender realized how tired she was – her breathing was coming out rushed and ragged, her fingers were trembling as adrenaline fought to keep her moving. Perhaps this was part of their plan; it was probably much easier to face two teams of pro-benders once they completely wasted their stamina on pushing their limits to the max already. Aglaope, for all those feelings of being traitorous, was no exception. But she couldn’t stop now, not when they were so close to getting overrun; she would never forgive herself if Aurio got hurt because she had decided to be the overconfident rabbit and take a nap; though she couldn’t deny the exhaustion creeping into her very bones.

Taking a deep breath to try and slow her heart rate, the waterbender glanced over to Aurio, her feet instinctively starting to take her over to him. Now she’d aid him with repulsing the ringleader, throw the nasty piece of work to the police or worse. But, just as a whip of water formed in the air above her right hand, the liquid crumpled to the ground. Body curling inward as her abdomen instinctively tensed to protect the internal muscles in case of an attack; she turned her head then body to look at the minions that held her bending back now. Gritting her teeth involuntarily, the waterbender held up her clenched fists to prepare for the fight.

Yet it felt so hard to move, with the two devices shining down upon her with their eerie light. It seemed as though she were trying to force her way through a liquid that refused to bend to her wishes, making her as helpless as a drowning earthbender. Her heart was quickening again with slight fear, even as that emotion turned to anger almost instantly. The pro-bender had fought countless sparing matches against multiple opponents, but only when her bending was fully under her control and she wasn’t feeling fatigue tug at her mind, body, soul. Though she wasn’t beginning to hear those ringing thoughts, cracks in her sanity and will, she knew this wasn’t looking good. Aglaope had managed to take out minion1 partially because he wasn’t expecting her to know anything about fighting hand to hand, and she knew it. These two, on the contrary, likely saw the defeat of their comrade; with that familiarity, they would surely expect a few tricks to come from her, so they would keep their guard up – which really wasn’t looking good for her, considering that she didn’t have any stratagems to employ.

Just when she was about to do something stupid – like scream to try and throw them off, even though that was probably going to distract Aurio as well – she caught the movement of the waterbender-what’s-his-face from the Striking Cobras sneak up behind them. Trying to avoid looking at him to not give away the attack, she pretended to raise her hands in a surrendering fashion. It didn’t matter if they believed her or not; their momentary confusion would surely slow them down long enough for…. Sure enough, Pell’s teammate knocked them out with two rather effective water bolts to the back of their heads. Taking a quick inhale of relief, she nodded to him, feeling the tension leave her shoulders. The grunts are just cannon fodder – it’s Amon that needs to be defeated.

Turning her blue-silver eyes back to the fight between Aurio and Amon, the breath hitched n her throat as she saw Amon bloodbend him, bringing his body before him in a twistedly display oddly reminiscent of puppetry. Body trembling, Aglaope’s eyes widened in terror, as she instinctively knew what was going to happen; everyone in the city knew of this ritual. Fists tightening, the waterbender felt her nails cut through the cloth and skin, making blood start to drip down. Tears started to burn in her eyes, and she found herself immobile. Monster… she thought to herself, the word ricocheting around her mind, turning the constricting fear to boiling anger. Monster! The word became something stronger, a mental challenge as she fought against the hush of the crowd.

With one word, the tyrant had brought the entire area to a perfect silence; nobody made a move, not even the pro-benders that had only previously fight for their lives. An oppressive atmosphere had set in around them, and Aglaope couldn’t blame them for being so deathly still; it affected her equally as much, even though her mind was ripping itself to pieces. It felt as though Amon had bloodbent everyone around him, forcing them to be capable only of watching this terrible and gruesome act. No, I can’t…. she thought to herself, mouthing the words silently to herself. I can’t watch as this monster destroys him!

Following that explosive thought, the waterbender rose her right hand, touching her lips with her fingertips – flesh that was coated with the small drops of blood from her palm. Aglaope wasn’t a bloodbender, and never would be, and she didn’t stand a chance against Amon, just like Aurio apparently hadn’t. But with the beast occupied, having to split his focus between fighting her and keeping him under control… well, she might just stand a chance. He might just stand a chance. Gritting her teeth, the words Aurio spoke to her came back, wrapping around her mind encouragingly, “It's you and I from now on, forever….” That had been a promise to her from him, but she felt that it was also a promise to him from her; they were together until forever, and she wasn’t about to let anything happen to him so soon.

Taking a few inhales, she realized that she had to act now – it was literally now or never, and the risk was nothing to laugh at. But she didn’t care much about that at all; if she failed, then her bending would be taken away as well. Yet, if she didn’t act at all, then she’d have to face the same thing. Aglaope literally found herself in a situation with nothing to lose. And, in the wise words of her grandfather, “The worst action is nothing at all.” Filling her lungs with oxygen, she grinded her teeth together to try and think; for being horrible at split-second decision making, she seemed practically perfect at it compared to everyone else.

Why aren’t they moving? she asked herself, feeling the hair on the back of her neck stand up in a mix of fear and rage. Realizing then that she was the only one that was going to act, the waterbender nearly felt fully alone – she had to fight Amon now, alone, and Aurio was in no position to help. But wasn’t that part of being equal? He would save her, she would save him. That’s how it had to work, right? Taking a deep breath, forcing down the nausea she felt at such a burden, the waterbender knew she had to right herself. But the tears clouding her blue-silver gaze continued to build, not quite at the stage of falling down her cheek, but coming so horribly close. I’m scared. And I’m alone… but that doesn’t mean… but that doesn’t mean that I have to stay silent as Aurio gets ripped to pieces! she told herself, feeling the cloud of sorrow subside; was that a ray of hope she saw?

He fought for me, right? Then I’ll fight for him, she told herself, the muscles in her body starting to twitch and tingle with the thought. No more fear stricken looks as she fought on the sidelines. She wouldn’t allow herself to be a deserter to him. As that steeled itself in her mind, the terribly short kiss flickered up in her memories. No, he gave her courage and strength; why shouldn’t she use it to make herself a lion hearted girl? Belonging to the gaggle of rabbit hearts was for those in the crowds, wasn’t it? And with that, she felt that burning need to do something surge up in her mind, rising forward to allow her to break free from this inability.

She was the angel. They were the chickens too fat to fly.

Cowards, they’re all cowards! she screamed to herself, feeling the anger bubble further within the emotional pit of her mind. Somehow, her body stopped trembling and her fingers stopped twitching – maybe the adrenaline was rushing off – and her mind cleared. As soon as that happened, a thought pounded its way into her mind, screaming and screeching the only option that could even hope to help Aurio. With no better alternative, the waterbender grabbed hold and went with it. Even if she could only delay the destruction by a few microseconds, maybe her action would prompt the others to move as well. Or not. She didn’t care about them; she only had eyes for Aurio now.

With the thought process completed, the teenager chewed her bottom lip, righting herself into reality. There was only one window of opportunity here and a very small margin of error. Her breathing accelerating, her eyes glanced around, taking in the best possible weapon for her assault – what did it matter that the only projectiles she had were humans? Aglaope had decided to risk all, and risk all she would.

Now grounded in reality and the stillness around her, the rage she felt smacked into her mind with full force. With her blue-silver gaze narrowed in rage, the waterbender supposed that it was almost justified that she planned on using those around her as weapons – they weren’t going to act, so she might as well force them! Her wrathful eyes stopped on Pell, and the anger simmered even more, bubbling forward until she could keep her mouth shut only due to a rather strong force of will.

Why aren’t you helping him? she wanted to ask him, overtly accusing him with a challenging tone. She could almost imagine the words coming from her mouth, tainting the air with their rather dark tone, He’s your teammate! Or is he only a way to get to the top? The earthbender hadn’t done anything to her before – she barely even knew who he was – but it seemed that he was her second greatest enemy in this moment, right behind Amon. Oh, yes, he deserved what was coming. Didn’t any of them realize that they were witnessing the torture of a human soul in front of them? Perhaps she was biased, considering her feelings towards him, but that simply wouldn’t do. There was no possible way that she was going to let them stand by and watch his destruction as though it were some kind of carnival game initiated for their amusement!

She briefly wondered if they were inhuman, before deciding that had already been established, due to their lack of action; there was no reason to feel guilty for her next move, for they were justified to be guilty for their lack of empathy and compassion!

Determination resolved, the waterbender quickly flicked her right wrist, forcing the water from the grate conveniently under Pell’s feet – it was as though fate had conveniently set it up for her, and that was just one more bit of proof that told Aglaope that this was something she had to do. The earthbender, too surprised to make a noise, remained muted as the traitorous Lion Turtle picked him up effortlessly with her element. Gritting her teeth, the waterbender flung him at the space between Amon and Aurio, hoping that she would be able to force the monster to get away from him.

But Pell, while he was sailing through the air, decided that he definitely wanted to scream. “GAhhhhhhhh!” was the only thing that came out of his mouth – not even an actual word, just an annoying garble. Narrowing her gaze in further rage, the waterbender wished that he had the nerve to stay silent. If he wasn’t even going to say something using words, then there was practically no need for him to say anything at all. But, then again, this further reinforced her theory about how everyone standing here was a spineless, wretched coward.

And she would prove it to them, even if it took her bending.

Even if it took her life.

Because she was not going to watch Aurio get hurt as long as she could breathe.

Annoyingly – probably due to Pell’s rather untimely and unmanly scream – Amon was able to dodge, but he was forced to take his hand away from Aurio’s forehead in order to prevent his arm from getting crunched by the stocky Striking Cobra. The monster turned his gaze to Aglaope, his eyes steadfast upon her. Somehow, that was the most disturbing thing he could have done. The waterbender almost wished that he had started laughing maniacally or began to cuss her out; then, maybe, he would have seemed human instead of simply unbeatable.

Aglaope instinctively wanted to take a step back, to turn and run, once the eyes landed on her, but she forced her spine to straighten. Taking two aggressive steps forward for the sole purpose of proving to herself and Aurio that she wasn’t about to abandon her resolve, the teenager licked her lips and returned the glare. “I won’t let you kill my heart!” she yelled at the top of her lungs, now throwing caution to the wind. “If he is ended, then so am I; let death take the both of us, but not before I – ” her words started to tumble out, fast and furious like a toddler’s first attempt at ranting, but Amon didn’t seem to be so gracious as to let her complete the sentence.

It looked as though a tidal wave was headed straight forward, courtesy of a simple movement from her adversary – he somehow managed to bring the water from the lake crashing over the side of the arena, much to the astonishment of Aglaope. Clamping her mouth shut – she knew all of her focus had to remain on the battle – the waterbender supposed screaming about love with all her strength could wait until she and he were safe, because that was all she cared about. Why else would she risk it all?

If she were smart and not filled with defensive rage, Aglaope would have been terrified out of her mind. But it seemed the warriors’ blood from countless ancestors fought with her, steeling her mind and whispering phrases of wisdom into her ear. As it was, she was doing wonderfully.

Bringing her hands together in front of her, Aglaope clasped them together, lacing her fingers as tightly as she could. Taking a deep breath, she watched the liquid scrunch together, moving toward her all the more precisely, but that was exactly what she wanted. Focusing all her mental strength on the water before her, the teenager gritted her teeth and twisted her body completely to the right – starting from her feet, then hips, followed by abdominals, next the shoulders, until finally the neck and head – she forced the massive chunk of water to circle around her tightly. Even though a wider oval would have taken less energy, she couldn’t afford to slack off; the only person connected to her soul was on the line here. She couldn’t lose, and she refused.

With a grunt, the female completed her turn, re-facing Amon, only to find that he was walking towards her. Gaze widening in fear, the waterbender put her entire body into the motion of the attack, trying to get the massive wave to hit him dead on without any collateral damage. The attack took all of her flexibility, as she almost straightened out her body in order to get the maximum power and accuracy she could. With one more idea, she clenched her hands together to fists, suddenly exhaling all the air in her lungs without warning. Immediately, the mass of water became a solid hunk of ice with a rather magnificent point at the end, aimed directly at the monster’s chest. You threaten my heart, I’ll kill yours, was the thought that burned through her mind as her lips pulled up in a triumphant smile. How could anyone dodge that – even if he avoided the point, the sheer volume would crush him, and the impact had to crush at least some ribs, if not his spine.

It had to be total annihilation.

Yet, as her gaze remained firmly on the tyrant before her, her eyes widened and a cold chill creeped up her back in a rather unpleasant manner – Amon let out one solitary chuckle, a sound the sounded like it was formed in the darkest pit of his mind. Forcing herself not to retreat, the waterbender started edging towards Aurio, trying to get by his side. If she could get to him, then maybe they could throw themselves overboard and hide out in the lake – no, he wouldn’t be able to stand that.

The tyrant simply raised both arms – incidentally freeing Aurio from his bloodbending hold as he did so – and pointed his palms at the falling behemoth. Realizing what he was about to do, the waterbender thought quickly, trying to figure out anything she could do to take advantage of this massive distraction, but there didn’t seem to be anything she could do at all. All the water nearby was currently stuck in that iceberg, effectively leaving her nearly helpless until he melted it. In which case, it would be too late.

But… Aurio wasn’t a waterbender. He didn’t need weapons – he conjured his fire seemingly from the air. Her inching towards him turned into a run at breakneck speed, the sense of deepest urgency in her steps. She ignored the insane Equalist at her back, already knowing that he was going to melt the ice and have it fall around himself harmlessly like a benevolent waterfall. But before that happened, every ounce of his concentration had to be on the ice instead of the humans around him. Right? But it was the only thing she could think of, the only chance she thought they had of even landing one blow.

You’ve got to hit him now, Aurio! she thought desperately, skidding to halt by his side, eyes turning to Amon with nothing short of distress and wrath illuminating them. With no words to say, Aglaope turned to face the anti-bender, standing shoulder to shoulder with Aurio – if this failed, then, well, they’d have to fight him together or hide in the lake until it was over.

Her ears were slightly back, broadcasting her unease and, partially, her dislike of loud noises. Long limbs moving in a quick trot steadily closer to the border, Spettro parted her jaws, allowing herself to pant slightly to cool her body. She had been moving for a long while, away from that distressingly loud human home that she once inhabited. Though the stench of those animals clung to her fur, the smell of mixed dog and wolf was also there. In time, the human smell would fade entirely until the musk of canine was the only smell to her aura. "Anyone here?" the female barked softly, stopping her trotting motion just before she set foot over the rather strong boundary that smell too much like feline. Confused, the pup wondered if there were only those cat-creatures around; she couldn't help but wonder if dogs were unwelcome. Now a bit nervous but stubbornly refusing to turn tail and run, Spettro looked at the territory within the scent marks with a keen brown gaze. That’s what he said, right? The tortie found herself starting to question her hearing – after all, if her sight was killing her, perhaps all of her senses were slowly failing her. Perhaps they were all weakening slowly, and her hearing could be the next to go. Ivorypaw knew those thoughts were illogical – she needed proof that her senses were collapsing, she couldn’t just ‘assume’ it without any evidence – but the dizzy state of her mind prevented that rationality from breaking through. Still, she gave a small nod to the medicine cat, glad that he had been able to help. Eyes fixated on him, unblinking because the agony that caused was still fresh in her mind, the lieutenant thought that her vision was sharpening back to the way it used to be. But she brushed that off as a side-effect of the pain. Surely, it was only her imagination.

The female DarkClanner barely managed to see the gesture to the collapsed bed, but she managed to decipher it even while everything around her seemed to be clouded over. The edges of all the things she could see were blurred, to where she didn’t know where one thing ended and the other began. Colours were blurred together, crashing around each other like leaves in a windstorm. Groaning again as all the confusing images made her feel even worse, the young apprentice stumbled over to the resting area, only just able to pull herself up from her sitting position to stand and then move. Her depth perception seemed to be off, too, for it took a failed attempt before the daughter of Witchinghour managed to collapse on the right space. With a sigh, the tortie let her focus drift slightly – her eyes seemed to be aching more by trying to concentrate, and now that she didn’t have to worry about balancing she allowed her body to relax.

He did say that he was going to help her, right? With one final effort, the young lieutenant pushed the irrational questioning of her senses back – if it turned out to be founded with evidence behind it, she’d ask one of the medicine cats like she was doing currently with the problem with her eyes. But until then there was no need to trouble them. After all, they probably hated those afraid of treatment just as much as it annoyed them when those terrified of health problems continuously knocked on their door.

She tried to tell herself that the pain was nothing; the agony seemed to be what was causing all the problems with her vision and focus rather than an actual problem. Somehow, she felt that there wasn’t really anything wrong with her; her hypothesis was that she was going through a metamorphose; if the problem wasn’t a disease, it had to be a new ability bubbling up to the surface – or from the space rock, the lieutenant thought, reminding herself that she had spent a rather long time poking around that meteor in RadicalClan territory.
