  • He didn't want to look around; seeing a monster might be enough to make him freeze like a deer in a car's headlights. Slowly, carefully, he began to step backward toward Ella, holding his bag close to him. When he was about halfway there, however, he stepped on a twig that he hadn't seen. It snapped loudly, and he flinched at the sound.

  • Ella paled, "Run!" She exclaimed, by his side in an instant and starting to bolt as a lion-like beast jumped out of the woods. It had the face of a human and a scorpion tail with barbs, "Those are poisonous, watch out!" Ella opened her wings as they ran, slowing slightly, before she grabbed Daniel and flapped upward.

  • Daniel stared at the manticore in horror once it jumped out. He took a step backward, then felt Ella grabbing him and flapping upward. He knew it wouldn't help much, but didn't know what he could do. As he watched, the monster's tail flicked, and a spine launched toward them - toward Ella, specifically. Trying to keep it from hitting her, Daniel reached out his arm as though he was trying to catch it. The spine was at the very edge of his reach, but he managed to deflect away from himself and Ella. Almost immediately, his fingertips began to feel as though they were on fire, and the feeling began to slowly spread to the rest of his hand. He said nothing, though; now was not the time to point out what had happened.

  • Ella managed to dodge the spines shot at them, 'crash' landing on the otherside of the boarder with an 'umph!'. The siren managed to sit up, "You okay?" she asked, her blue eyes wide and worried as she looked at Daniel. Her gaze instantly caught on his fingertips, "Oh my gods...." She whispered.

  • Daniel sat up with a slight wince; the bit of pain caused by the crash landing was nothing compared to the burning in his hand and arm. When Ella asked him if he was okay, he raised his eyebrows a little. "Deflected a spine," he hissed, grimacing. "Is- is it supposed to hurt this badly, and...is the bit where I can't move my hand or arm at all temporary?"

  • Ella's gaze became horrified, "oh my gods..." she repeated, hurriedly making Daniel stand, "We need to get you to the infermery..." She said, her blue gaze almost terrified at the thought, "I warned you! They're poisonous!" She said, already starting the quick walk down to camp, "it's the poison setting in..... I just hope it's not to serious... how much did it cut you?"

  • He leaned on her slightly as they walked, although he tried not to. "I- I knew it was poisonous...but it's better for it to hit me than you, right? I mean, I can recover, but from what you said...once you're hurt, it's pretty serious, right?" He paused for a moment, trying to keep from showing some of the pain. "It didn't cut me all that badly...cut across my fingertips, actually, when I deflected it."

  • "Only if it's celestial bronze... you should have let me take the hit." Ella fretted, helping him into the building. An Apollo kid came over, not understanding the situation until Ella hurriedly explained. The first thing the girl did was get Daniel some ambrosia -something that looked like white chocolate- and nectar, "Eat and drink it all... it'll heal what it can." She said just as she injected something like an epipen into his affected arm, working as fast as she could.

  • Daniel grimaced, but began to eat ambrosia. Although the taste wasn't quite what he had expected, he decided that it wasn't important - the paralysis was still spreading, although hopefully the ambrosia and nectar would help to stop that. Once he had finished the ambrosia - which was very quickly indeed - he began to drink the nectar.
