[justify][font=georgia]Chasm stood over a few piles of herbs, each one organized and neatly stacked. Cobwebs, catmint, marigold, lavender, juniper berries...oh, daemons, I hope I've got this right. The last thing she wanted was to give Benvolio false information. Speaking of which, where was the bright little tom? She was expecting him any minute now.

The tortie poked her head out of the Gravitron, blinking in the glaring light. Once her eyes adjusted, she scanned the carnival, but saw no sign of him.

[align=center][size=10px][color=#E0EEEE]His first meeting slash study session with Chasm and he was running late. Of course. He'd been too caught up looking through the things in the little costume shack he'd found some time ago that he'd barely realized how much time had passed. So now Benny was hurrying towards the gravitation, nearly tripping over his scarf as it came into view. Wouldn't that be embarrassing.

Slowing as he spotted Chasm waiting, the small grey and white tom trotted up to her, flashing the she-cat a bright, excited smile. "Hello."

[justify][font=georgia]Ah, there he was. Chasm smiled, masking a short laugh by pretending to cough. He was still playing with that strip of cloth from the popcorn machine. "Hey there, Ben." she purred, dipping her head. Her voice was calm, but inside, she was certain she was about to have a heart attack. What if she messed up? It would be her fault if he couldn't help out properly.

The tortie took a deep breath, attempting to calm herself, then stepped back into the Gravitron, motioning for Ben to follow. "Now, I know Violet said you'll be helping with carrying herbs back and forth, but I thought I'd introduce you to a couple of them first. You'll need to know where to find them and what they look like, so you might as well know there uses, too."

She gave him another smile, then gestured to the herbs she had laid out earlier. "Do you recognize any of these?" Chasm wasn't exactly sure how much Ben knew about herbs, so this would be a good way to find out. Based on how much he knew, she could figure out exactly what she needed to teach him.

[align=center][size=10px][color=#E0EEEE]Benvolio gave a small smile of amusement as he followed the she-cat into the gravitation, easily picking up her anxiety. He was certain it she was just nervous about doing this right, but there was nothing for her to worry about, so as he turned his gaze to the herbs she'd lay out, he cast out his power towards Chasm to try and get her to relax and feel more confident about this.

Considering how he'd made every effort to be there when a cat was injured, and his little study sessions with Amor, Ben knew quite a bit about herbs already, including the uses of the ones she'd lay out for him, and that caused him to feel almost guilty. "Cobwebs for bleeding wounds; catmint is the best cure for greencough; marigold to block out infection; lavender treats fevers and juniper berries are for cats with a bellyache," the small tom murmured, gesturing to each herb with a forepaw as he named them off.

[justify][font=georgia]Chasm raised her eyebrows in surprise, nodding as he named off each plant and it's uses. "Yeah, that's pretty much it. Juniper berries can also be eaten to help regulate a cat's breathing." she mewed, flicking her tail to the purple berries. Now, to get some new herbs.

She shoved the first ones to the side, then pulled out a couple new ones. Lavender, dock leaves, thyme, poppy seeds. "How about those?"

[align=center][size=10px][color=#E0EEEE]Ben's hazel gaze returned to the juniper berries as she explained another use for them, and he nodded to himself, adding that little tidbit to the rest in his brain, before looking to the new herbs that the she-cat pulled up.

"I know those are poppy seeds," he murmured, pointing to them with his tail. "They can calm a cat in distress and help with pain, putting them to sleep." Benvolio paused, looking to the others with a small from on his face. Those he wasn't so sure about. "I believe that one's thyme, but I'm not sure of it's use."

[justify][font=georgia]"Very good." Chasm mewed, a smile on her face. This would be a good place to start, then. "Let's start with lavender." she said, flicking her tail towards the purple flower. "Pretty simple. You can chew on the petals or leaves to help with a fever. Feverfew can help with that, too, but we'll get into that later."

[align=center][size=10px][color=#E0EEEE]As she explained the herb, Benvolio listened intently, his brain eager for as much new information as it could get. He knew he obviously wasn't going to learn everything in this one session, but anything he could get would satisfy him. "I think I've seen feverfew before," he mewed softly, gaze flickering back to Chasm. "They're the flowers that look sort of like daises, right?"

"Yes, that's right." Chasm answered, nodding approval. She pushed the lavender aside and pulled the dock leaves toward her. They were a little hard to identify, simply because they were just leaves--big, green leaves.

"These are dock leaves." she mewed, flicking her tail at the herb. "You can rub them to help sore and cracked paws, and they help with small cuts to take away the sting."

[align=center][size=10px][color=#E0EEEE]Dock. It was just a tad harder to get down simply because it was one of those herbs that lacked bright, recognizable flowers many others had. But it was also that very thought that Ben hoped would help him remember in the future. It was the one unlike the others.

Nodding, the young tom looked thoughtful for a moment. "So it can be used like comfry?" He mewed somewhat hesitantly, as if afraid he was wrong. "That can be used to sooth wounds too, right?"

[justify][font=georgia]Chasm nodded, frowning in thought. "Yes, I suppose it can be used somewhat like comfrey." she replied, nodding slowly. "Except you don't chew this one, you just rub the leaf, and it can only be used on small cuts. It probably won't help if a cat's got a giant wound in their side."

Pausing, she pulled over the next and final herb. It had long, thin green stalks with tiny, blue flowers here and there. "Like you said, this is thyme." she said, nudging it with a paw. "Cats can chew on it to help with nervousness or anxiety."

Again, she paused, scanning the herbs. That seemed like a food amount for today, but she'd have to test him to make sure he could remember them. "Any questions?"

[align=center][size=10px][color=#E0EEEE]Ben listened as she explained, then shook his head with a small smile as she asked if he had questions. No, he was satisfied with learning this much now; there was no need to over do it and cram in every bit of information he could get now, as that would only end up working against him in the end. He would instead practice what Chasm had just taught and then most likely go and work with Amor on it, exchanging information like they'd done in the past.

[justify][font=georgia]Well, at least that meant she'd gotten everything out of the way. "Alright then. I'll give you a little test, and then we'll be done for today." Chasm mewed with a smile. "An apprentice comes rushing into camp. They've been attacked by a band of rogues, are in shock, and are having trouble breathing. One of their claws are torn out and they have a gash in their side. What can you do?" Here she paused, worried he might not be able to get it. "It's okay if you can't remember all the herbs."

[align=center][size=10px][color=#E0EEEE]Ooh, a test? Benvolio listened intently as she explained the mock situation, then took a moment to think. He knew that if it were real he'd have to figure out what to do quickly, so he tried not to take too long, though he also knew not to go to fast that you got careless. That could be even worse.

Shock, breathing trouble, shoulder wound, torn claw. They grey and white tom took quick tally of what she'd mentioned before he replied. "Well, the wound would have to be treated first," he began. "Especially if it's bleeding heavily, so I'd chew up marigold and apply it as well as cobwebs to stop the bleeding." Shock. "And while I do that I could use my power over emotions to calm the cat down, but then once I was done with that it would be a good idea to give them, uh, thyme? Yes, thyme." It was here where he hesitated. "But maybe poppy seeds would be better. They would help with both the shock and pain of the wound." Ben frowned. "But juniper berries would help with his breathing and shock..."

He was silent for a short moment, gathering his thoughts. No. A lot of herbs had more than one use, so he would have to learn to not get overwhelmed by that like he was now. "I'd give juniper berries first," he mewed with a firm nod. "That would deal with shock and breathing. After that I'd give a poppy seed, maybe two, to further calm them and help with pain. Then I'd change the dressing on the wounded shoulder depending on how well that was holding up, and the torn claw would be a simple matter of some cobwebs if needed because the poppy seeds would have helped with that too."

[justify][font=georgia]Chasm smiled in amusement as she listened to the young tom. It was a lot to cram into his brain at once, but he seemed to have the basic idea.

"Good." she mewed, nodding approval. "You can use marigold on the torn claw as well. As for shock, i would only suggest giving one treatment. Too many treatments can be bad for a cat. Everything you mentioned would work, but you should pick one and not all of them. Got it?"
