• Glow of the Moonlight on the Water looked over at her sister, the tribe's healer. Her tail flicked and her enchanting emerald eyes flashed. It was a clear morning and was time for a hunt. Moonlight could almost hear the eagles crying as they soared overhead, scanning for prey that would soon belong to the cats. In reality, she could hear almost nothing over the constant roar of the falls. But, the noise had grown into a hum of peacefulness in her life near it.

"Skylight," the visionary called out, "has Northernlights prepared herself for the hunting trip?" The head prey-hunter had been chosen out of the prey-hunters the just prior night. Moonlight hoped the calico she-cat was excited. The green-eyed visionary was excited herself, but tried not to be vocal about it, for she'd taught herself for moons not to be as talkative as she had as a kit.

The chocolate-furred she-cat loved going on hunts, even though she wasn't a prey-hunter. Stars Alight in the Night Sky's love for hunts partially came from her love of hunting with her sister because they made such a good team. The twins had grown so close over the moons that they were and are nearly inseparable. If you saw one brown she-cat you'd generally see another nearby, or at least in the vicinity. The two cats looked almost identical, the feature that could be used to distinguish between the pair being their eyes. Skylight had light blue eyes that were as clear as the sky on a greenleaf day, and it almost seemed as though she were named for her eyes even though when she was a kit her eyes were much darker. Her sister had brilliant green eyes that were of an emerald shade, vivid and expressive.

Skylight hoped that she wouldn't regret choosing Northernlights as the new head prey-hunter. Perhaps it was just that the she-cat was a cautious cat who often thought back over decisions that she made and wondered if she had done the right thing. She was glad that Northern' would be joining her and her sister on a hunting trip, and it would also allow her to release her doubts about her choice from her mind.

"I think so," the chocolate she-cat mewed, padding closer to stand beside Moonlight, immediately twining their tails. "I haven't seen her yet, though. I hope she isn't late."

Skylight picked up on Moonlight's suppressed excitement from the way that she was holding back from saying more. And she knew her sister. They both loved to hunt, so naturally the other she-cat would be excited about the trip. "Excited?" she asked, her blue eyes twinkling with her own barely suppressed mischievousness.

Swiftly travelling she arrived upon the scene rather quickly, enjoying birdsong and quiet pleasantness that permeated those who were silent in concentration. Wandering gaze slid over each cat in turn, gently smiling. Mouth turned upwards as delicately the she-cat tread forward farther, her smile forming into a fine line.

"Late?" Moonlight said in her soft tone. "I don't think a young cat'd be late for her first trip as head prey hunter. In fact, I think that's her right now."

Instead of looking for the she-cat, he chocolate-furred visionary looked up at the sky. It was a crisp blue with some low and slow drifting clouds overhead. The sun was in its rise over the eastern skyline, meaning the day had just begun. Moonlight had only just noticed how cold it had gotten. Newleaf was late this year and the leafbare had been it's worst. The frost clung to any available surface. Fortunately, the frost was all that remained of the passing leafbare snows. Creatures that would soon become prey had just begun to creep out of their hiding places and woke up like the rest of the world after a long sleep in the snows.

Overhead, in the cold sky, eagles and other large birds of prey circled, searching for something to call a meal. Little did they know that they, along with what they aimed to catch, would become another bit in the store of food for a tribe of wild cats.

When the other she-cat arrived, Moonlight looked back down from the sky and focused her attention on the head prey-hunter. "Do not apologize, Northernlights," the visionary meowed. "We've only just arrived ourselves. You didn't keep us waiting too long." She smiled--in whatever way a cat could smile--and spoke again after a short pause. "Besides, being a few heartbeats late is better than not showing up at all," she joked--or rather, tried to.

"Ah, yes," Skylight mewed, dipping her head politely as a greeting to the calico she-cat. "Thank you for coming." She hoped she didn't sound too stiff and formal but she wasn't completely over the shyness that she expressed when she was younger. She felt like she had to be on her very best behavior. Skylight shook her head slightly to clear it. It wasn't doing her any good to worry about what Northernlights thought of her. She just needed to relax.

"Shall we go?" The she-cat was ready to be off. The crispness of the morning air was invigorating, and she felt energized like she could run up the mountain and back and be completely fine. Of course, she couldn't actually do that. But she still felt energy in her paws as she paused to stretch, arching her back and stretching her paws out in front of her. Skylight straightened up before continuing. "May the Tribe of Endless Hunting watch over us on this hunt."

She hoped that the trip would go well. The prey has been running well lately so she figured they would catch something. She loved going on hunting trips, whether it was the thrill of the hunt itself or yhe feeling that she was helping to support the tribe.

The visionary nodded towards her sister. "Indeed I do hope they'll watch over us in this hunt." The chocolate-pelted she-cat didn't think the tribe cats needed much aid in their hunt--prey had been running well lately--but she didn't want to kill the cats' luck right then.

Moonlight stretched her own legs, itching to go on, but not wanting to rush the calico she-cat. But with no solid words from the head prey-hunter, Moonlight found it best for them to begin. "Let's get on with this. The sooner we head out, the sooner we'll find something." The visionary had begunt to drop her elevated speech of a high positioned cat and began to speak in her verbose speech that she'd adopted at birth. As a kit, she wasn't very quiet and spoke anywhere and of anything. Many times as a to-be, it'd cost her a little mouse or sparrow, but the she-cat never learned her lesson. "We don't want to just sit here and wait for the birds to fly our way," she joked. "I mean, we'll have to go find them. And it's now or never, dear sister." The she-cat forced a smile in order to not look like an idiot.

She gave a little hop. It wasn't out of excitement but out of legs awaiting some kind of movement. She just wanted to get somewhere.

"Of course," mewed the she-cat, letting out a mrrow of laughter. Generally when her sister was happy she was too, and today was no exception. She always loved it when Moonlight was in a good mood, it usually helped to improve her own mood. She didn't mind that her twin was a rather talkative she-cat--Skylight had accepted that as just who Moonlight was. It wasn't that she didn't like how outgoing her sister was, she just felt so quiet by comparison that she couldn't help but wonder if the other she-cat felt burdened by her. She felt boring sometimes, like she just wasn't interesting enough to be well-likable. But Stars Alight in the Night Sky pushed that back--those insecurities that plagued her every step--when she became the healer and leader of this tribe. She couldn't be doubting herself if she expected the cats in the tribe to put their faith in her. If she didn't trust herself who else would?

Skylight turned her gaze to the morning sky. On good days in newleaf the sky was a powder blue color--it was almost like her eyes, but she considered the color of the sky to be more beautiful by far. The healer wondered if they would catch anything today. With luck they would, and she hoped for her sister's sake that the chocolate brown she-cat were able to redeem herself from one of their recent hunting trips when she had missed a blow to the eagle that they were trying to take down. The next day she had worried endlessly that the trip had damaged her sister's pride--she hoped that Moonlight hadn't thought she was showing off.

Then Skylight padded towards the spot that they would exit the camp, surprising herself with how confident her stride was. She trusted that they would follow and just lead the way out of camp. It really was a beautiful morning, and she stopped for a moment to take in the crisp scents.

The dream snapped swiftly out off her mind, getting caught back to reality, caughting blurs of rusty red fur.

The tortoiseshell's extremely sensitive snout had detected the rise of rut in the squirrel's tendencies. For now, her head was quaintly pointed downward, following the strong scent of a female, chewing on pieces of brown nuts silently in Tribe of tumblig waterfall's claimed land.

It was moments before the creature broke into sight, pleasantly grazing amongst the brackens and ultimately unaware of Death's rapid approach as it landed gracefully on the dusty earth. The femme crouched, ebbing herself forward until she was nearly feet away. And with a great, but well-calculated motion, she launched herself at the squirrel, pouncing and bite on the neck would be all to take the breath of the beautiful creature, now called 'Tribe's Prey'.[/fancypost]

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub] A blue-grey shape slipped from the opening of the camp behind the group, though his pawsteps ended soon after. Taking his place outside of the den, Deer with Twelve Points kept from blinking his bright orange eyes until he needed to, wanting to make sure nothing got past him. As the group padded away, the Head Cave-Guard shifted his paws slightly. "Want me to join you?" the tom asked the group of females. "I could stay here, but I figure you may want me to just tag along."

Did he feel odd surrounded by all the females? Not at all. In fact, Deer felt almost like a big brother to them, making sure no one messed with them. And if someone dared to mess with them, they got caught by the blue tom's claws.

"Sure," Sky mewed, turning to look at the tom. She was suddenly feeling really uncomfortable. Why had Northernlights just caught that squirrel? It didn't make any sense considering how the tribe hunted. The tribe always would wait for a bird of prey to swoop down for the mouse or the squirrel and then attack it, so that they could bring back both a large piece of prey and a small piece. Shouldn't the head prey hunter know that? Perhaps she was just nervous, and she forgot that was the way that they hunted. She hoped that was it.
"Northernlights was just promoted to head prey hunter, Deer." She flicked an ear towards the she-cat, pursing her lips slightly and cringing internally as she spotted a hawk gliding in a slow circle far above the group. That could have been their caught-prey.

A squirrel? The Visionary frowned, wondering why the she-cat caught something like that. She didn't bother to ask, figuring any kind of prey would fill a belly. Even if it was a little strange. Moonlight shrugged and looked up at the bird wheeling across the sky. "Do you see that?" she asked, keeping quiet enough not to alert the entire world that the feline hunters were there. Her eyes narrowed as she tried to lock on to it, watching to see if it would dive down and catch something that would eventually become the cats' prey. As well as the bird itself. "Shall we wait for it?"
