  • It was like waking up from a nightmare, except opening your eyes didn’t do any good. Will groaned against his pillow as he remembered the events of the previous day. Why did his father have to make an appearance in front of Jade? Why couldn’t he have chosen another day to emerge from his quarters and torture the staff? Will squeezed his eyes shut when he heard a knock at his door.
“Just a moment!” He called as formally as possible, scrambling from his bed and running to grab his day clothes.
“It’s me.” Came the reply, and Will let himself relax, abandoning his mission to get out of his sleepwear and flung open the door. He collapsed back onto his bed without looking at the person who walked in through the door.
“I got her out.” Daryl reported, plopping down in the chair next to Will’s desk. “Did it as discreetly as possible, not even the majority of the staff knows. Just Lucy.”
Will sat up at the news and chewed on his lip slightly as he thought over Daryl’s words. “How’s she doing?”
“Fine.” Daryl shrugged. “She’s a hearty woman, and a tough one.” Will gave a short, dry laugh.
“That she is.” He ran hand through his hair and gave a light sigh. “She’d better avoid the kitchen for a couple days in case my father decides to make another appearance."
"That is probably wise." Will nodded and grinned at the weathered councilman.
"Of course it is. I just ooze wisdom, don't I?"
"It's hereditary, I assume?" Daryl raised his eyebrows in a mocking gesture.
"Of course." Will's lips were pressed into a thin line. "Like father, like son."

Daryl left soon after and Will took the chance to get himself cleaned up. After changing into his neatly pressed morning clothes, he swept discreetly down to the kitchen, using the servant’s staircase to get to the dining room. Finding the massive room empty with the exception of a few of the staff, he went to the door to the kitchen and peeked in around the door. One of the staff had temporarily replaced Martha as the head chef and was busy at work preparing breakfast. Comforted that everything was in order, he gave the kitchen servants a quick nod and crept back out into the dining hall.

Charles, the servant in charge of serving Will pulled back the prince's chair and nodded as Will sat down. "Morning, Charles." Will said with a grin. "Have a good night's sleep?" Charles chuckled.
"His Royal Highness was screaming at the servants all night." He admitted. "No one got any sleep." Will winced at the thought. He knew he’d have to visit his father later, and didn’t want to know what would happen when he did.
"He should calm down within the next few days." Will assured him. "That's usually the case." Charles stepped back to his place by the wall as the advisers and councilmen began to trickle in. Ronald was one of the first inside. He sat stiffly across from Will, nodding at him coolly while Will smiled back insouciantly, wondering what patronizing comment Ronald would have for him this morning.
"Your hair is sticking up, William." Was all he said. Will left the hair sticking up quite happily and settled into his chair, waiting for Jade and the other councilmen to arrive.

  • Cassy had been awake for hours when the rest of the Castle finally began to stir. Her and Emily, another of the servant girls like herself, were in the throne room. Busily scrubbing at the floor, on there hands and knees. Their skirts being ever so slightly held back so they didn't get their dresses wet. Emily pushed her cloth into the soapy bucket and began to clean at the floor again. Cassy was 10 feet away from her with what looked like a scrubby , scraping at a stain that was in the marbled floor. Early this morning The King had sent word to all the servants that he wanted a seriously cleaning. Everything was to be dusted, swept and moped. He wanted the castle to be "Perfection". He had said that "He was tired of the servants slacking off." It had sounded ridiculous to Cassy. or she woke up every morning before the sun and worked all day. Then she didn't go to bed until every one else did. Most the time she stayed up late to help out Charles, her father. He was the butler to the future King, Sir William. So he usually had a lot of things to do, even though the prince tried to be kind and easy on him it didn't matter. Cleaning up after the prince was a rather huge responsibility. One Charles had told Cassy many times about. Even mentioning to her that when he died and William was king it would be her who became his new Butler. So all his stress and duties would fall onto her shoulders.

Cassy gave out a sigh, her mind filled with exhaustion even though it had been a few hours since she had started cleaning. She hadn't been at it long enough for her to be tired yet. But last night the King had thrown such a fuss that all the staff had gotten little to no sleep. Her and her father studying most of the night instead of sound asleep in their beds. A few minutes later the thrown room was spotless and Emily and Cassy hurried onto the next. The two young girls arrived quickly to the servants quarters, then slid through halls until they were at the kitchen. They quickly cleaned and emptied their buckets. Cassy was fixing her appearance when she realized she was supposed to wake and assist the new Lady Jade. With a roll of her eyes, angry at herself for forgetting, she quickened her pace. Saying goodbye to Emily. Drying her hands and fixing her hair before leaving the room and speed walking to the guest part of the Castle. The more beautiful and important part of the house.

Cassy got there within seconds. Knowing her way around the palace all to well. With a nervous swallow she lifted her hand and lightly knocked on the door. This was supposed to be Jade's bedroom. Although she wasn't a 100% sure on that. She had never met the lady and had only heard from other servants where she would be staying at. "My Lady are you awake?" Came her small and so gentle voice. It was so soft it sounded like a whisper. Cassy let her hand drop away from the door, fixed her appearance once again and her posture before waiting patiently for her response.
