Branchkit looked proudly at her father, Thornstar. He was in the leader's den sharing tongues with her mother, Skystripe. Branchkit suddenly felt like boasting to the other kits about how she was the kit of Shadowclan's leader.
As she padded into the den, she saw bristletail and her kits, ivykit and dustykit. "Ivykit, you wanna know something?" she asked the two- day old kitten.
His ears pricked up in curiosity "What is it?"
"Well, on your tour around camp today you saw thornstar, right?" He nodded. "Well he's my dad"
"Wow, that is so cool!" Ivykit said
"What's all the commotion about?" Asked thicketfur, the elder,"I was in the middle of a great nap!"
Branchkit told thicketfur "My dad is Thornstar" she boasted happily.
"That's nothin' to be proud of" He said darkly.
"What do you mean? He's big, strong, and amazing!" Branchkit mewled in disbelief.
"Well, you see these scars on my chest and belly?" Branchkit nodded "I'll tell you about them later" He mewed and padded out of the nursery " At Moonhigh, meet me at the highrock......"

The moon was high and cast a long shadow over the highrock. Branchkit was still waiting for Thicketfur to pad out of the elders' den. She noticed Thicketfur's black pelt shining in the moonlight. He padded over. It was then she noticed how ugly the scar on his chest was.
"how did you get those scars, Thicketfur? Branchkit asked.
"You see, the old leader,Foxstar, Had a major grudge with windclan. He felt that they were hogging all the herbs in a time like leafbare and Thunderclan had next to none." he shuddered.
"so where does Thornstar come into this?" Branchkit asked impatiently.
"They led us near the camp and told us that our survival was being threatened because we dont have enough territory. I refused to fight for such a reason. Foxstar told Thorntail (Thornstar) to attack me as he would a rogue. He pounced on me ferociously and tried to claw my belly. I threw him off and ran away. He caught up to me and ripped at my shoulders until I fell down, extremely hurt. He dragged me to the gorge and abandoned me there. The battle raged on in a thunderstorm like no other and when half of windclan's warriors died, Thornstar left them on the open moor to rot..." His claws were sheathing and unsheathing.
"Wow, I didn't know he did that." she murmured.
Thicketfur nodded. "I'm sorry to say, but I thought you should know that having Thornstar as a father is nothing to be proud of" He told the crestfallen kit and padded back into his den...
