  • Paradisefalls waited in the medicine cat den. For once no one was occupying the spare nests used for sick cats. It seemed spring and summer were the best medicine and fewer got ill. He had told Winterkit he wanted to speak to her, and he assumed the kit would come soon, so he waited.

[I couldn't remember if Winter was a boy or girl. *fail* so if I guessed wrong pretend I got it right and I'll edit this post later.]

  • [shes a girl c:]

Butterflies had been fluttering around in her stomach ever since Paradise had told her that they needs to talk. What could this be about? Perhaps Winter had proved to be a pest again, and Paradise was banning her from the med den. Yes, that was probably it; things like that had happened to Winter in the past.
Pushing aside her nerves, the snowy bengal peeked into the medicine den. Seeing that Paradisefalls was already inside, she entered.
"I'm here." Usually Winterkit's tone was cheery and happy, but right now the kit was calm and serious.

  • [ah okay thanks.]

Paradisefalls smiled seeing the kit's change in demeanor. He didn't mean to make her nervous but well it was kind of cute to see her so calm for a change like this. He couldn't help but think her pelt matched his own in a way. He was pure white so they sort of were similar. "I wanted to talk to you because, I could use some more help in my den. I can't always be here and sometimes my apprentices are busy. I was wondering if you would like to train in herbs, be my assistant if you will," he said.

  • Winter's blue eyes sparkled with immediate rejoice after hearing Paradise's full proposal. But still, at first she was speechless and taking this in; This was her dream, this was what she had been hoping for, for so long!
"Oh, yes please! I'd love to be your assistant Paradisefalls!" Winterkit bounced off her paws and hurried to nuzzle the medicine cat. Though Winter wasn't a young kit, moving on around 5 moons, she still had the energy of a younger one.

  • Paradisefalls smiled, Winterkit reminded him of himself when he was that age. He had been a bit younger than her though when he had begun his training. He still wasn't sure why he had been picked so young. "We'll start tomorrow then, I'm sure you'll want to tell your mother. Oh and you can either sleep in here now or in the nursery if you prefer," he said. As she was 5 moons old he didn't want to take her from the nursery if she didn't want to yet. At 6 moons, apprentice age she would fully move in here regardless though.

  • Winter nodded, and hurried out if the den with a bright smile on her lips. Tomorrow she began her dream!
Too bad he had no mother to tell this great news to. But she could still tel, her friends! Incendre would be so excited!

  • Paradisefalls yawned and stretched as the first rays of sun penetrated his den. He fetched himself a sparrow to eat and waited for Winterkit, he was sure she would be here soon if only due to excitement. He certainly could relate on that note.

  • And sure enough, Winter was soon at Paradise's paws, ears pricked and long tail wavering in excitement.
"Good morning Paradise!" Winter greeted. She hadn't grabbed a piece of freshkill simply because her excitement was dictating over her hunger, and she wanted to start her training as soon as possible.

  • Paradisefalls smiled down at the kit not realizing she'd skipped breakfast. "Morning Winter," he meowed. "So herbs, do you know any of them yet?" he asked. He knew the kit had been hanging around in his den for a while before he had offered her this position and figured she might have learned a herb or too from listening or watching him or his apprentices.

  • "Well, I've heard of burdock root, which is used for infection and or rat bites. And marygold for infection too. Of course cobwebs and poppyseeds too." Winter smiled as she remembered watching all these herbs in use.

  • Paradisefalls smiled. "Your quite observant," he remarked. "How about we just go through the herbs and you tell me if you already know what it does. If not I'll explain," he said then pulled out some dock leaves. "Know what these are?"

  • "Thanks!" Even though what Paraise had said might have not been a direct compliment, Winter was still slightly flattered. Turning to the herbs, Winterkit bit her bottom lip and guessed, "Dock leaves? But I don't remember what they're for..,"

  • The white medicine cat nodded. "Yes they are dock leaves," he said. "It's used to soothe scratches. I usually put it in a mixture with other herbs on major injuries as well just to offer some relief in addition to poppyseeds, you know what poppyseeds are for?" It was a pretty common herb they used so he guessed Winter probably had picked up on that one.

  • "Oh yes, they are used to soothe pain and make cats sleepy. An anesthetic, basically," Winter mewed and exaggerated that last 'big' word, one she had heard from somewhere.

  • Paradisefalls smiled. "Yes, that's what they are for. It depends on how bit the patient is for how much you need of poppyseeds. Kits only need one or a half. Adults need at least two sometimes more if they are bigger," he explained. He picked up the dock and went to put it away and retrieve something else.

  • Winterkit nodded, taking mental notes on the information being presented for her. Poppy seeds were a common herb used in treatments, and she had to know how to use them correctly.
