    Shadepaw had noticed the giant tree before his mentor had said a word. It was instantly recognizable, towering far above the others. He felt an instant urge to climb it. With a great leap, he sprung himself towards a sturdy branch, making himself comfortable among some leaves.
    "Whee!" he squealed. The branch bounced slightly as he had jumped onto it.

    Petaldew instantly stopped him. "Don't climb up there Shadepaw! It may be easy to get up, but not back down!" She called out to him.

    Shadepaw ignored her warnings, continuing to jump from branch to branch. "Hey Petaldew, watch this!" he requested. He crouched down, preparing to make a big leap. With a squeal of delight, he pounced at a flimsy limb. The branch fell through. Shadepaw was left sliding down the trunk, his claws scratching at the bark. In the end he fell straight on his bum.

    Petaldew walked up to him, annoyance in her eyes. "Shadepaw! I told you not to climb that! Now you'll have a sore tail-end for days!" she looked sternly at her apprentice. "Alway do what I say in future! I don't want you getting hurt!" she waited for him to pick himself up.

    Petaldew sighed. "Come on. We must check the border near Riverclan." She waited for Shadepaw to catch up to her, then lead the way towards the border.

    Shadepaw followed his mentor at a swift pace, despite his aching bum. He wondered what kind of cats lurked beyond the RiverClan border. Were they friendly or ferocious?

    They approached the border upstream from sunningrocks. "Can you smell any unfamiliar scents, Shadepaw?" Petaldew's voice was calm and friendly again.

    Shadepaw sniffed the air. It smelled quite unusual. An undefinable scent, distinctly different from RiverClan, filled his nose. "I smell something coming from that forest," he mentioned, gesturing across the river.

    Petaldew smelled it too. "Very good Shadepaw! That's Thunderclan scent. They live in that forest." She explained.
