Lakodah finished her makeup, fluffed her strawberry blonde curls, and grabbed her bag. "Today," she said to herself. "Things will change today." She took a breath and walked out the door,a light spring in her step. She rustled through her purse, groping for her keys. Fishing them out, she stuffed the key in the ignition, threw the car in reverse, and was on her way to the pier. She glanced at the clock. "It shouldn't be too crowded at this time of day," she smiled. Twenty minutes, a smoothie, and an apple later, she parked in a space nearest the pier and jogged to the end to sit and let her feet dangle over the edge.

  • Nikolai licked his oce cream and watched her walk past him, deciding to follow soon after. "Hello," he said between licks. "What's your name?"

  • Lakodah jumped, caught off guard. "Lakodah," she stuttered. "Yours?" She turned to look at him, her voice catching in her throat.

  • "Nikolai," he smiled. "Would you like some? It's strawberry." He held his ice cream out to her, smiling crookedly.

  • Lakodah looked at him mischeviously. "You're not going to throw it away if I do, are you?" She asked, smiling pleasantly. "I would hate for you to waste your treat because my tongue touched it." She laughed, scarlet rising in her cheeks.

  • Nikolai chuckled. "I don't mind," he whispered, reaching out to brush her hair out of her face. "As long as your mouth is clean." He winked and held the ice cream out to her.

  • Lakodah handed it back to him then leaned backward. "Have you ever wanted to just dive off the pier?" She asked. "Or do something that nobody was expecting and would definitely not approveof?" She sighed and sat back up. Smiling she turned to look at him with her legs crossed. "I probably sound crazy, huh?" She laughed cautiously.

  • Nikolai stared at her and smiled. "Well," he murmured. "I have an idea, if you're up to it." He passed the ice cream back to her.

  • "A special spot of mine. I know something we can do," he smiled, standing and holding his hand out to help her up.

  • Taking his hand, she let him pull her to her feet. "You smell like pot," she remarked when their faces came close. She took the ice cream from his hand and licked it slowly before pushing it against his lips softly and giggling. "Sorry," she stuttered as she realized where she had been heading.

  • Nikolai stared into her eyes, his hand crept it's way up and found a place on the small of her back. He pulled her closer and took a breath. "How would you know what pot smells like sweetheart?" He asked with a crooked smile.

  • She shook her keys gently with a mischievous smile. Not being able to think of anything other than their close proximity and his hand on her back, she grabbed his face and kissed him hard on the mouth.

  • He tensed, startled. Calming almost immediately, he pressed closer to her and opened his mouth slightly. He moved from her lips to her jaw, from her jaw to her ear. Chuckling, he murmured, "you smoke. How about love? Ever showed it?" He pulled away and took her hand. He winked at her then said, "Will you be my girlfriend?"

  • Lakodah sighed happily. "Yes," she giggled, blushing. She kissed him again, took his hand and led the way to her car.

  • Nikolai chuckled, shaking his head in amazement. Opening the door for her when they got to the car, he kissed her hand, put her seat belt on, shut her door and went to the passenger side. "You'll take a left at the second light, a right at the fourth stop sign, then the dirt road," he mumbled to himself. Clearing his throat, he said in a louder voice, "You'll take a left at the second light." He reached over and took her hand.
